Wild Cherry was formed in 1970. They have a very funky sound. Most people are shocked to see that this is a white band. The band's name "Wild Cherry" was taken from a box of cough drops.

@@KathyLuluandDonna Yeah, lead singer Rob Parissi had come home after a brief stay in the hospital and the other members came over to see how he was doing. One of them said, "What are we going to call ourselves?" and Parissi, who by this time was feeling tired and agitated saw the box of wild cherry flavored cough drops on the table said, "I don't care if you call it Wild Cherry". They decided they would use that name for their first gig and then change it afterwards, but their first gig turned out to be such a big hit and the fans loved them, so they ended up stuck with it, though Parissi said he was always trying to change it because he didn't think it was that good.

The pride of Steubenville, Ohio! They were a rock band playing out somewhere ( sorry, I don't remember where) . They were taking a break between sets and some black guy walked up to the singer and said, "Don't you white boys play any funky music?"
When they were done, the singer sat at the bar and literally started writing the lyrics on a bar napkin and two days later, called up the bass player and they finished the lyrics and started working on the instrumentation.
They did an episode about them on "VH-1 One Hit Wonders".🎸

A one-hit wonder artist played in this band his name was Donnie Iris who had a number one hit with ah leah.
Not just one hit. He also did "Love Is Like A Rock", which got quite a bit of airplay.
Donnie never hit #1 on Billboard's Top 40. Ah! Leah got as high as 29 on the chart.
There's a live band across the street from me playing this song right now.😂

I admit to using that phrase a lot in my early days as a musician..White cats that could throw down some serious ghetto soul didn't exactly grow on trees, so when us brothers heard one, Damn right we'd let him hear it as a form of our respect. And yes, they were a one-hit wonder, no clue why.

This was a favourite to play keys on in the 70s cover band I was in, altho bit of a shock to find myself singing it when the original guitarist left.
I think the title is definitely truth in advertising. ‘Cause it’s funky music for sure.

The reason being that this isn't the kind of music they usually played. But it's the one that made coin.🤑🤑
It was the beginning of the disco era and the people at the bar asked if they were going to play that funky (disco) music.
