This video is the personification of the 70’s 😂😂 Hair perms, sequined clothes, chest hair loud & proud, and music genres blending together. You guys are hilarious
Appreciate you🙏🏾
Ummmm, that was the 80s
@@brucematzen4678 Play that Funky Music by Wild Cherry was released in April of 1976 and hit number 1 on the billboard hot 100 on Sept 18, 1976. That style may have hung around for a bit in the early to mid 80’s, but it’s all 70’s here
@@brucematzen4678 No, more like 1978 or 79

I grew up in the 70s listening to disco music. If you like Wild Cherry, you will like KC and the Sunshine Band.
Agreed! They should listen to some KC!
When I was a kid, KC and the Sunshine Band was my very first concert I went to, it was awesome!!! Love 70’s music. The 70’s channel on my Sirius XM radio is the only channel I listen to! 😊
In the ' 80s, Oprah brought on some '70s stars. A lady in the audience said, "KC is adorable!"
Agreed 💯!! eM
this song is actually a true story. the band is recounting an encounter with black listerners/fans
I'm telling you, our music was a lot more fun back in the 70's and 80's!
Agreed💯
You 2 screaming laughing over his AD LIBS was the best part 😊 This song is a Epic Funk song. Dance Floor got packed when this song came on 🎵🎵🎵
"Yes I diddddd"😂
Hell Prince covered it!
Worked in clubs then...and yes the dance floor filled

back when people did not care about what color you were just about good tunes and having fun. was a great time to be a young man or woman.
Oh, they cared. Yikes, did they ever care
This song is STILL on in my driving play list. I was in high school when it came out and I’m going on 64. It’s one of the all-time greats for chair dancing. 😁
If you were listening to the audio of this song, you would think the singers were black. Good music does not revolve around color. Thanks for your reaction.
❤️
But I have watched so many black people reacting to this song, and they sometimes make fun of them, it just seems they know the song is good, they just have a hard time accepting the fact that they are good and white.
We had amazing music in the 70s and 80s!!!❤❤❤❤❤
There is a strong argument that the 1970's were the best decade of music in modern history. There was something for everyone. Motown was still kicking, rock added Led Zeppelin and saw the advent of heavy metal with Black Sabbath. Folk rock continued, funk came to prominence, punk got its start with the Ramones, and for as much as people shit on disco, it was great dance music. From Sex Pistols to Soul Train, the '70s had it all.
The 1980s had a lot of great music, but I believe that the 1970s radio airwaves were a lot more diverse.
✌️
@chrisd7047
My parents (and so were my siblings and I) were listening to 1950s/60s crooners. My grandparents were listening to WW1 era through the big band era. On the bus ride to and from school we were introduced to the popular music.....and Warner Brothers cartoons introduced us to classical music. Oh my goodness what a decade musically!
70DZ ALL THE WAY
THE 70DZ WERE THE NUKE BOMB I WAS THERE THE 80s were ok the late 60s weren't to shabby either
Great Reaction! Please keep the festival of funk going by reacting to KC and the Sunshine Band playing "I'm Your Boogie Man," Ohio Players playing "Fire," Commodores playing "Brick House," and Parliament playing "Flash Light."
Oh...Brick House! Love that song at a club...my old ass can't help but jump up to dance!
@@amyfarley2305 That's EXACTLY what I was gonna say!
And Don't Forget "Heatwave"...They sang Boogie Nights, Groove Line and Always And Forever!
Rob Parissi is the lead man singing this song. This was the era AFTER the hippie era. Don't get it twisted. This is the Disco era and those of us living during this time didn't like being compared to the older hippie era. Our fros became much more smaller, tighter and styled better than the big wild bushy fros of the hippie era! Also, we dressed so much better than those damn sloppy hippies! In jest, though. Much Respect to the teens and young adults of the 1960's. The 70's youngsters just wanted our "own thing!"
At first I felt offended, and then l thought, yeah you're right. We were too carefree and sloppy. 😄👍
@@Howdyall It's truly no offense, even though reading back through my comment, I see that I was a bit "salty." My apologies. I didn't mean to be rude. Much Respect to everyone and everything from the 1960's. How can I not love the decade I was born in? We, the little siblings and younger Cousins of our older Hippie brethern were just trying to find our own way. Just like the Hippie kids and young adults were trying to NOT be like the young people back in the Fifties! Cheers to you. Friend!
Naw, the hippies were mostly all commies and were too drug addled to understand but you could alway smell them long before you could see them since they hated such bourgeois values as proper hygiene like bathing regularly.
@@maryreilly5092
Hey, not all of us were sloppy. Spilling beer is alcohol abuse 😜
@@maryreilly5092You got it. We didn't want everybody to think we were all loving Elvis Presley 🤣🤣🤣
That song back in the day we, even we weren't white, was like "DAMN!!!!! THAT FUNKY!!!"
Miss them days sometimes
Not sure if anyone else has given you the background of how this song came about? Apparently they were playing in a club & after their set someone came up to the lead singer & said "you sure can play that funky music white boy"! It resonated with him & I believe it was later that night when he wrote the song. It's great that inspiration comes out of nowhere & can turn into a classic song like this!! You should check out Peter Framptons song "Do you feel like I do" from the Midnight Special, the same venue as Wild Cherry!! The Midnight Special was a great venue to see & hear ALL of the top talent of the 70's!! The GREATEST decade of music, because of the multiple genres of music played on the same radio station! There wasn't all of the "specific" channels that only played certain genres like there is today. Yes there was "rock stations" but those included a WIDE RANGE!! That's why the people who grew up during the 70's know a wide variety of songs & the lyrics whether it was rock, soul, Motown, ballets etc, they all were played on the same radio station.
In the version I've heard of this origin story, the guy in the audience shouted to the band as they were heading for the green room between sets... _"Hey, when are you white boys gonna play some FUNKY music?"_ Because, up to that point, they had just been playing their usual material, which was more conventional rock/blues stuff. So they wrote this song during the break, not knowing it was destined to become one of the most iconic party anthems of all time.
By the way, I couldn't agree more on the influence of _"Midnight Special"_ and _"American Bandstand"_ and a handful of other shows, mostly on the weekends, which filled the role of MTV before it existed. Lots of great memories there! ;-)
@@taiwanjohn wrote it on a cocktail napkin...
Similar to the way the Righteous Brothers got their name
After all these years... this song STILL SHREDS‼️👍🏽👍🏽
We had much better music than the current generations have.
Music should cross cultures and bring us together. You guys are great!
Appreciate you!
I was only 7 or 8 when this came out, EVERYONE young and old loved this song and couldn't sit still when it came on. Back in the day when there were only 3 tv channels, we listened to music on the radio all the time. There was so much cross pollination in music back then and a lot of album covers were art rather than pictures of the group. Most of the time you had no idea what the artists looked like until you saw them perform on Midnight Special, American Bandstand or Soul Train. Success was based strictly on the music, looks and race weren't a factor. There wasn't so much our music or their music, it was just music and the most popular radio stations played a wide variety of rock, pop, R&B etc. It was a great time.
I once heard Robin Williams doing an impression of Lawrence Welk saying 'play that funky music white boy'. I guess you had to be there, but it was f***ing hilarious.
Back in the 70s I could never decipher whether the lyrics were "play that funky music RIGHT boy" or "play that funky music WHITE boy" I loved that song; it was great to dance to and I love watching the lead singer; crazy handsome!!
Wasn't it SNL that that said this in the style of Lawrence Welk?
I can never hear their name in any other way.
I thought it was play that f$#king music.
@@irenecarhart
Remember, it was the 70s. That wouldn't have been allowed on the radio.
@@irenecarhart 🤣
Rob Parissi was the lead singer. Great song! ❤️
Oh, NO! There ain't nothin' hippie about that! That is Disco, baby!!!! Hippies were an endangered species by then.
And check out the movie 'Thank God It's Friday'. Perfect Disco flick!
I was a teenager in the 70's, I was a rocker and hated Disco. BUT I did like this one, just don't tell anybody!!! LOL
I LIKED BOTH ANY THING 70DZ 4 ME ,AND u can tell everyone lol Wate i did tell every 1 lol
This was one of my first 8 track tapes...powerful shit..circa 75-76 lol
Back in the day when music was king...before auto-tune, cell phones, social media, DVD's, and internet porn were around to distract us. More great music came out in a month in the 60's and 70's than in a decade now.
U GOT THAT RIGHT
Fun Fact: The bands name came from Wild Cherry Cough Drops
TY for an awesome reaction!
Thanks for watching!
Love watching u guys busting up.
🍒Wild Cherry playing at the skating rink 🔥 #allskate 🤩
I thought Rob Parissi did a good job on sounding black, something many, many bands tried to emulate throughout the years. Great reaction guys, loved it.
Thing is, I don't think he was deliberately trying to sound black. I think he knew this was a kickass song and just decided to have fun with it.
@@ladyv5655 Exactly what I was going to say.
I think he was trying, and succeeding, to be funky.
Perhaps that's the same thing though. ;)
He wasn’t trying to sound black, he was sounding like himself…..wow…..
The 70s was the greatest in music where everyone, all races and skin color got to gether and enjoy music.
I miss those days.
Ram Jam "Black Betty"
BeeGees "Jive Talkin"
❤❤
THEN WHAT HAPPEND LOL
Imo the 60s and 70s had the best music ever in every genre ❤
WE CAN DIG IT
You two are just stinkin' adorable!!!
Aw shucks🥰🥰 thank you!
Wild Cherry, THE pride of Steubenville, Ohio.
And all this time I thought it was Dean Martin……
I was just going to type the same thing!!!@@leeschaeffer3209
Loved your reaction guys, & hope you continue down the 70's & 80's rabbit hole, I think you will enjoy the ride 😊
That song is bomb...however, in my opinion, the studio version is even better!🙌
The 70s was the best time to grow

This is when Disco started taking over rock n' roll in popularity, it was a very popular song!
Songs like this one have something that is getting rare to find these days. They have flash. That is the ability to move an audience using a combination of rhythm, physical charm and message in an unforgettable hook that creates a moment.
What makes this song great is that this literally everything Stevie Wonder wouldn't do musically during the same time period. Certainly one artist would endure over the other, but this is one of funk/rock/soul's g.o.a.t. tracks. PS. try some Stevie Wonder i.e. "Love's In Need Of Love Today", "Blame It On The Sun" and "I Believe (When I Fall In Love)".The funk/rock/soul landscape is so rich in artistry, it could take years to comb such fusion so enjoy the ride.......
Grown folks music! This was what we listened to as a kid in the 70s ... yeah I said the 70s!!
Respect!!!✊🏾
In the 70's, it was all about rock n' roll until Disco started getting super popular so many of the rock bands had to spice it up and start integrating more soul into their music. This is the story they're telling, a rock band going to check out the disco music they hear about to see what the fuss is about.
I lived near Detroit. We had so many dance Clubs. We had Disco Motown, and rock and roll. We had a good time in the 70s.
How wonderful when we can laugh at and with each other! No problems! All beautiful!!
People didn't get their feelings hurt back in the day. We laughed off most things and clowning each other was normal.
We had fun with it back in the day!
😽💋🎶
I was stationed in Germany when this song came out middle 70s late 70s and this thing was everywhere played American radio station German it was everywhere it was massive and it was a hell of a Lotta fun
🔥🔥

I almost choked!
Your laughter at the singer's
'I got to go back'
Priceless!!
I have heard this song many times since I first heard it all those years ago and that phrase and the way he sings still cracks me up!
😂✌️
You all got me laughing !! I grew up to this song, and every time it was played, everyone sang along and had a great time ! I miss those days and those times…..and those vibes ! I roller skated back in the 70’s, and they played this one LOTS. There was always a good time to be had back then. The 70’s and 80’s brought us some good music ! Good times indeed. You all are funny and you got me so tickled !!! 😂 Thanks for doing this one. Man, I love 70’s music !! Have you reacted to any from KC and the Sunshine Band ? If not, please give them a listen, I promise you’ll like his music !
i heard this song as a 13 yo white country boy and I fell down laughing my ass off!
don't get me wrong I loved it!
thanks guys for putting a smile on this ol farts face.
I watched “the Harder They Come” movie in the theater and that was all she wrote as far as music for me in this time period and for decades.
Such a blast!!!😂♥️🎶

This was 🔥🔥🔥🔥
"Black Betty" from Ram Jam
I like how most of the reactors(blacks or whatever you wanna be called on here)on here think it’s a young black man singing this but then when the singer is showed they are shocked it’s a white dude😂
You guys are killing me with your reactions! We just loved our music - from Stevie Wonder to Led Zeppelin to Disco. 70s music is the BEST all around. Everything was everything.
Rob Parissi was the lead singer
I saw these guys in a concert in the group that came out before them was cool in the gang. Great concert.
My teenage years 😅. This song here was bumping everywhere.
Play that funky music white boy.
Great reaction!! Seems real.... When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

On a side note, most of us girls had a satin jacket like that! Mine was baby blue. 😆❤️✌️
Wild Cherry would definitely get an invite to the cookout/bbq.🤣
Facts!!!
This is my era of music and Wild Cherry was one group i listened to. If you haven't yet you need to listen to Average White Band & KC & the Sunshine group.
I was laughing with you, guys 😂 Funny, but I like it! First I heard about this song from “Friends”
🙏🏾🙏🏾
A friend of mine was a white bass player in a black band and I think of him every time I hear this song. He was literally that white boy playing that funky music.
The soundtrack of my jacked up childhood
Love y'alls reaction❤

This inspires me to go someplace else, just so I can say “IGOTTAGOBACK!”
Brothers never hit a lick on the horns! lol
I was 13 when this came out and can remember a whole group of us breaking out and singing the chorus in the school auditorium waitng for some school meeting.
Someone had a radio and the song came on and it just spread through the group.
5:05 trumpets actually have a little ring in the middle, attached to a slide, that minorly tweaks the pitch of certain notes. It's not painful to the trumpet twirler at all, even if it is a novel use of this ring.
The Best. Generation. of Music.
Rob Parisi is the writer and singer of that song .
We need more funk in the world.
There’s an episode of Big Bang Theory where Leonard and Sheldon have a discussion about this song. Sheldon trying to figure out the premise but his smart dumbass can’t……
I didn't know Greg Brady could sing
oH gode that's to funny lol
Good one😂
I mean, the Brady Bunch kids did have some song. Funny enough, I unapologetically just put their "Sunshine Day" on one of music playlists lmfao...
No, no. He’s Johnny Bravo.
70's was so cool. We, all were one color till the tighty whites of the 80's took away the love. That was the industry. I was rappen early 70's tighty Whites and uptight blacks screwed the media up. It is love the one your with.
Every dude in the band had a perm!! 😂😂😂❤
Rob Parissi is the singer and guitarist in the band. Still alive and playin that funky music like a white boy !!!!!!!
back in the day they played the edited version they would say "play that funky music right boy"
I only ever heard white boy.
The snort you inserted was perfectly timed 😂
Rob Parissi is the lead singer. He’s from a small town in Ohio.
Alright guys, Stevie Ray Vaughan. Texas flood. Prepare for something you haven’t ever seen before. I’ll be waiting to see your reaction to SRV, SERIOUSLY, UNBELIEVABLE
If this song isn't everything that defines funk then there's no such thing😂.
This is still one of the greatest party songs EVER! I dare anyone to put this on and have people stand still .
This song would set the club on fire.
The singer, who wrote the song, owns the rights to it. He still gets mailbox money to this day from a song he wrote almost 50 years ago.
His jiggly hair!!! Hahaha!!!!
A one hit wonder rob made a million of this song and lives in a mansion in florida
Foo Fighters, Pretender. Not the 70s, but a classic song
Great reaction to great period piece!
Toldja,,this shit good since 76
A lot of the rock and roll grates, especially the British were heavily influenced by American Blues. I know a few musicians who were very popular around this time. They weren't thrilled about this song and I think it's because it created a lot of competition. That's my personal opinion anyway. To this day pretty much everyone I know likes this song. Music is art there's enough room for all of it.
.
Here's another great song when I was in my teens called " Blue Money by Van Morrison from the seventies
Great video. Thank you guys.
Thanks for watching!
