It was Gametrailers what sold me the original Valkyria Chronicles.
Same :)
And now to buy this one, you must first sell yourself.
In 10 years when valkryia chronicles 7 releases for the PS5 you'll need to sell your soul
i wasnt feeling the demo of this game
Ditto! I went straight to EB to buy VC1 after seeing their review.
I always hated the "fewer turns = better score" scoring system of the previous games, even though I enjoyed them a lot. It limits creativity and rewards cheap tactics (scout rushing, etc.). I had hoped that they would've changed it this time around...
Compared to VC1, it’s still more lenient in that there’s no 1 or 2 turn A rank conditions for main story maps and character missions at the very least
Not only that, but the way they worked even ended up lampooning the games story and some of it's themes.
+loafhero Glad to see we are on the same page. Refreshing for once.
loafhero LOL Alicia is OP waifu, especially when she equipped a hybrid scout-sniper rifle.
Keep in mind the rewards for A Rank were fairly limited so there was no real reason to get upset over a lesser rank. That said as others have pointed out 4 is more lenient.
The nostalgia of the Gametrailers voice....I missed you man

Please buy this game people. The franchise is to underrated
People should only buy the game if they think it's worth it. VC4 ain't a bad game, but it's disappointing that after 10 years they haven't fixed some of the main problems with the series combat.
@@UncleSev but the game is still good. Have you seen the reviews? Not only that but it's sure as hell better then the last one and fans wanted more of the first one and now we got it with a few new things added in. Also you not going to find another game like this
I have seen them. And yes it's not a bad game at all and it's a step up from the first one. It's only disappointing that A.I. is still not that clever and don't really challenge you + the little tank problem. I like what I see, I just wish they would have improved the A.I. a bit.
Sevuz I pretty sure the game is going to be challenging if the a.i. Is anything like the first. Because I remember it starting off easy and then getting way harder later so I'm sure the same goes with this one. So yeah the a.i. Still do dumb stuff but it doesn't make the game any easier. So far I'm happy with what I see and hear I'm just glad the franchise is back to its roots and that is what fans wanted so they better damn well buy it. Because sega is listening to what fans wanted and I'm glad they listen
The A.I. never really became that challenging late game in VC1. But that's just me. I still plan on playing VC4 myself. I had just hope for more change in the A.I. behavior in this installment. But, hey, as you said, it gives the main fans what they want and that is what counts.
I'm getting PTSD recalling some missions from the first game.
True. The original was ridiculously hard. I got frustrated and never finished it. Good game though.
Literally just finished it a week ago after buying it almost a year ago. Appreciated a lot of things about it, but not crazy about it. Great Tactics focused game tho
*Batomys' flashbacks intensifies*
It took me over an hour to complete the dreaded chapter 7. After completing it I shut down the console only to realise I forgot to save. The thought of it still makes me rage.
I totally agree. The game was so hard. I was never able to beat it. Yet, it was amazing. It was one of those games that made me buy a PS3 for.
I don't know if I'm up to the chalange of VC4, luckily there is an easy mode... But it will be probably still no walk in the park...
I remember pulling out a sketch book and redraw the entire area and planned my strategy after hundreds of failed attempts with my pops and bro. Good times good times! Now I cant wait to pick up my collectors edition on the 25th
Easily one of my favorite games of all time. A true sequel and the best game in the series! It's fantastic, charming, thrilling, emotional, gut wrenching, heartbreaking and exciting.
Pumping out those reviews - great job allies!
I just beat chapter 6 from the first game and I'm hooked. Took me an hour to nail down without a guide, but once I learned about the sandstorm, I'd clear 2 paths so 2 scouts could split, one snaking along the outer border and once blitzing from the middle. Once the sandstorm hit I took a gamble and sent my middle scout along the left border where I panicked because the base was guarded by a general shock trooper! I managed to lob a grenade, almost killing the shock trooper. I swapped to the outer scout and moved in, with barely enough AP to get within range. Shot him down with a few much needed headshots, and then Alicia was free of fire to take the base, all in 3 turns with CP left to spare.
Great review. Im so looking forward to VC4.
I loved the previous games and still play 'em whenever I get the chance.
I never get tired of 'em.
I'm really glad secondary troops have their own events like in VC2 and 3, I was fearing this would be a step back if they didn't have it.
Im Looking forwards to learning more about the band of Misfits we got in our squad, as well as whoever will be joining us.
The most underrated series. Hope this will get more attention and love
I love the placement of out of context quotes to emphasis points of the review. Just fun stuff. I loved it when GT was still around and I still love it now.
7:21 I see what you did there

I have only learned two things about that Raz character from this video, and it feels like i already know waaay too much!
1. He is guilty of sexual harassment.
2. He REALLY likes Bacon.
He's a bit of a womanizer in the demo, but that's hardly his main personality trait (he only mentions it once). I would pin it more on it being the 40s, this being a Japanese game, and the guy being a bit overconfident when treating with his childhood friends (this woman being one).
Also, there are sadly no mentions of bacon in the demo.
:(
@@TheSpartan012 oh yeah it's 1940s! My bad, grabbing her butt would have been legal then, he's good!
Man, I miss the 1940s.
Every chick needs a good slap on the ass. XD
@@alyx4436 The 1940s sucked tho. Wouldn't live in them if you made me a billionaire back then.
It is an awwkard scene but then again the moron grows out of it.
Saying anything more would be spoilery, and I apologise if I said anything that bothered you. Wasn't my intention.
7:18 I can’t hear that without thinking of PBS. :)
This was a great review. Amazing script and fluid editing.

Y'see, why is this questionable or so upsetting it will rub people the wrong way? It's time people realize fiction is fiction. Just because characters act in certain ways does not mean it is the narrator condoning or promoting said actions. It's fucking weird how we all rightfully accept violence and murder in video games as pure implementation of a fictional narrative, yet people potentially will go apeshit over a guy grabbing a girl's ass in a fictional display.
Bloodworth wasnt kidding. I'm impressed 2 new reviews just on Monday alone! Thanks Easy Allies
Two 8.5 in one day.
Nice.
8.5 is the new 7.8.
Lets get this out onto a tray
Watching this again after playing the game. Think the review is spot on. Credit to damiani for doing a great job
Really excited since I loved VC1 so much! I promised myself I wouldn't preorder games anymore but I had to make an exception for VC4. Also pretty surprised to see that people had a good amount of difficulty in VC1 not trying to put people down but I've always thought the game was a bit easy for a SRPG game even on the first playthrough
Played the heck out of the demo, release can't come quick enough.
I played the demo 10 hours (almost eleven) i know that i will play this alot
Been playing since the 1st and its so funny how war and killing people can be so bright and friendly
Damn, its so similiar that if you tell me this game was released a year after the first one i would totally believe it.
Day one buy for me!
It's really ridiculous and unfair when people call sequels 1.5 versions of another game. Valkyria Chronicles 1.5 would literally be the same game with some upgrades and new content, which is what Valkyria Chronicles Remastered is. Valkyria Chronicles 4 has a new engine, better graphics, a completely new story and new cast, new gameplay mechanics and every mission is new. They didn't rehash anything other than general design philosophy. Which is IRREFUTABLY similar, yes. But also what virtually every sequel does ever. If anything, this is more like the first true sequel, and should be considered the direct follow up of Valkyria Chronicles with 2 and 3 being unnecessary.
Valkyria Chronicles 3 was a spin-off in my book and Valkyria Chronicles 2 and Revolution... Well, I never heard of that. And you didn't either.
@@Mayhzon Amen.
@Seppiroth32 Literally none of what you said matters, though. By definition, a sequel doesn't have to be different at all, gameplay-wise or style wise. It's a new cast, it's a new story and literally all of the content is new. It doesn't matter if it's OUTRAGEOUSLY similar. It's still actually not the same. Megaman, Call of Duty, Dragon Quest, Tales of Xillia/Xillia 2, Pokemon, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, a million other games, every fighting game ever.. many of them work just like this. Some of them literally use the exact same game engine, identical graphics and the entire same cast. It doesn't make them not sequels. Whether or not it's a sequel isn't determined by how different it feels. In fact, I would say it's right in line with how most sequels go. New cast with same trope filled formula? Check. New story with similar structure? Check. You could argue it's not a very exciting sequel, that it's lazy or bad, you could say it's not a good game (if you think that). You could say a lot of things. But saying it isn't a sequel because it's too similar to the last game is factually not a thing.
Just look at all the Marvel movies. They all follow the same structure and formula and tropes, many with the same exact cast and even some of the exact same plot devices. Doesn't make them not sequels, though in recent years it has gotten them critically panned occasionally for being unoriginal, stale, lazy and formulaic.
No i'd say it matters, I don't like when marvle movies have the same structure
ITS BACON TIME
It's worth making a meme out of it.
Surely I will buy this! I love the original Valkyria C. so much that i'm so addicted to it. I'm Gonna love this too
Can't decide if I'm in love with Mortar Waifu or Sniper Waifu
Never cared much of the "japanese" look or the story of the Valkyria Chronicles-series, but boy the gameplay is absolutely brilliant! Will most certainly buy it, thanks for the review!
This series is awesome, extremely addicting and hard to not finish once you started. However, even at it's 4 installment, the game suffers from too many game design issues that could have been fixed if more focus was put on playtesting. Many things here have been solved in 2007, but you can still see them in a game from 2018. Here are the examples:
1. No auto advance in dialogs. This easily brings the game down from being a user friendly experience to an outdated experience.
2. The interface is designed poorly and doesn't respect the players time. Buying upgrades and training units takes too many clicks, skipping the same exact 3 lines of dialog. You can't see in advance if new upgrades where unlocked or not so you have to manually browse, and the menu doesn't remember position when going back.
3. The movement is not clear enough. Tanks and APC constantly get stuck in terrain, it's sometimes not clear how the infantry can get from point a to point b. Movement is the most important part of the combat system because of how deadly interception fire could be.
4. The RNG on the shooting feels very weird. Sometimes units are landing perfect headshots and sometimes they miss 3 times in a row. It is also very strange how you are encouraged to basically shoot enemies in the head from point blank range to get good results.
5. The classes are not well balanced. The scout is easily the most important class, most others are very situational.
6. The tactical map is great for feeling like a tactician, but falls flat when trying to figure out what is going on the battlefield. This often means that you will have to make the first run just to learn the level, then restart and blaze through on the second run, when you know where all of the units are positioned.
7. The potential system is superfluous. I don't feel like I want to bother with finding out which characters like each other for bonuses like bonus accuracy, when I will just shoot at point blank and one shot anyway. The negative ones are also too inconsequential to care about.
The good thing is that a lot of these issues are not game breaking, and could be fixed if the game was more popular by the modding community.
This is ridiculous... In the best possible way; how can one month hold such goodness? I'm still finding my way through Dragon Quest XI, then an old friend literally comes up to say Hello. Will see about doing a series marathon on the PC.
AWW YEAH! IT'S BACON TIME!
Raz is the best character in the series now, just by default.
This has been 10 years coming... and its almost here.
Great review as always, but WOW, how surprising Sega was so confident in it to let the review embargo lift up 2 weeks before the game comes out?!?! That is VERY RARE these days! 10 years ago Gametrailers sold me on Valkyria 1 & again for this one (the demo helps strongly as well lol)!
Thank you for this fast comment & besides written reviews like Game informer, Easy Allies is 1 of the first prime You Tube channels to deliver a review for this game I cant wait to play! Valkyria 1 was my treasure game of the last gen, Valkyria 4 surely will be in my top 5! Thank you again!!!
Appreciate the review Damiani. Excited to dive in in a couple weeks.
do you have a recommendation as to which console to play it on? I'm between ps4 and switch.
Great review. Damiani always delivering!
And Don always enhances anything of course :P
Really looking forward to this.
Thank you Damiani!!
I want a Valkyria Chronicles focused on the war at sea.
AWW YEAH! IT'S BACON TIME!!!
VC4 FTW!
Thank you
Playing the demo felt very much like the original but like you said, when it's a 10 year old sequel this is a good step forward
I think that this is a good first step in the right direction. They've made a new game for consoles, now we just wait for the next game that irons out all these issues.
I’m okay if the gameplay is exactly the same, but the previous game made me fuckin’ sob at the end of it. If this game can capture even half of what I felt in the last one, I’d see it as a success.
i think it do^^
Good review, guys!
Just remember target usually has buy 2 get one game free in November. Usually a week before Black Friday
the problem wiht the AI is, it supposed to be playing the defender nearly everytime, every Battle has its same characeristics, you deploy, you advance, you kill Imperials. If the AI would be supposed to do really something then there should had been battles inclouding were both Factions are fighting for a strategic position like for a citiy were you have to capture importan buldings which are neutral at the beginning, and the first Army that captured all objectives wins the battle. Well the game is more focused on a storyline, but maybe the can make once a really great strategy game out of it with a campaign map were you send the Armys from point to point, also an Multiplayermode or even a Coop would be great.
Swimmin' in 8.5's this year
Awesome review!
Actually, I'd assume most guys asses are MORE tight, on average, than female's asses, just due to the fact that females are typically more flexible than men, on average. But I love the effort nonetheless! I love where the writer's head is at, even if he got some of the details wrong! You can't expect genius to be constricted to details. Being constricted is for people with tight asses, not for geniuses.
Unless, of course, the genius in question also has a tight ass. Then, well, then things get real interesting, real quick. And that's the stuff great stories are made of, which brings us full circle back to Valkyria Chronicles and great writing. Well done, Sega, well done!
1:29 - Hey, that's Dahau from VC3. He's the main antagonist in that game.
So Calamity Raven is also here? Then I expect characters from VC3 to appear to.
Just finished this on switch, I loved it for real, put someone from this game In smash !
0:32 - the first rule of Valkyria fans is that we never talk about "the Valkyria RPG".
Is there any difference to late game class balance compared to the first? Wondering if Scouts still become 1 man wrecking crews again.
First game was released for switch eshop
Can't wait for my switch special edition to arrive :)
Me too :)
Wouldn't be surprised if some comments just straight up say shit like "CDPR should make a game like this"
Definitely picking this up
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW YEAH IT'S BACON TIME!!!!
God damn all the reviews coming out this month
For some reason i always associate Valkyria Chronicles to Radiata stories
anyone tried the switch version? how is it - is it close enough to the ps4 version?
But this game isn't out for weeks! Tomb Raider review is up too? Damn you guys are fast!
Man, my wallet can't handle September this year.
40 hours plus 10 of content? O.O that's like, double the first game lol. also i'm surprised reviews are coming out so early. doesn't it release at the end of the month?
They put an easy mode for newbies but they didn't bother putting a hard mode for veterans! Wtf I got A rank first try on all missions!
I thought this game wasn't out until the end of september. How did Easy Allies get a review copy so early?
Japan released it months ago i think
It was originally released on 21 March in Japan, so I'm guessing they received an early copy of the international version of the game for review.
@@EasyAllies thats good of SEGA to do that, but still isn't it more earlier than other review copies?
Im not really complaining, I just want to play the game : /
The Evoker User Kinda. There’s only two weeks to go buddy.
uhh, no? Atlus/SEGA always send their review copies to media outlets a few weeks earlier at least so that reviewers have the time to get to it. The review embargo was just lifted, which was why you are seeing quite a few Valkyria Chronicles 4 reviews everywhere
I appreciate you guys not knocking off points for the butt grabbing moment. I bet some sensitive fairy at IGN is going to complain and make a big deal out of it.
TELL ME ABOUT THE FIRE TEMPLE'S ORIGINAL MUSIC, YOU SEXY VOICE!
This is exactly the reason why I love PS. They have almost every genre for every type of gamers. SEGA also doing great. There Yakuja franchise is incredible n most underrated games ever.
you love PS because of a game that's coming out for PC, XBONE, and Switch as well? nice.
I AM SO HAPPY
Does anyone know how the Switch version compares to the PS4/Xbox? Are the diferences only related to performance (fps/resolution)?
I played the demo on Switch and PS4 and they are almost identical. PS4 has some sharper textures and some more trees, but they were almost the exact same. Fantastic job by Sega.
I mean the game engine ran on the ps3
Switch has lower textures on the ground and less environment stuff like trees. The frames are a bit lower too
@@sablen1319 yeah, but i wanted to ask just in case there was some heavily gimped part with the Switch version.
@@Wexter0083 thanks for the reply, stayed away from the Demos because this is the type of game i like to experience fresh from beggining to end.
Guess i'll finally replay the original through the remaster i bought a few years ago, then get it on the switch!
never able to finish the first game it just to hard but i really like the story so i just go and watch the anime version, see this one have easy difficulty option and i try the demo version it was damn good, gonna get this game ASAP.
Is there a new game + feature for this game? 'cause VC1 kinda has it too
i hope vyse and aika get a dlc release
they won every battle in vc 1 for me
Great editing on the video.
Getting this on Switch
"Aww yeah! It's bacon time!"
...what?
They had to brawl with another squad to acquire supplies.
Can't wait to play this on Switch, preordered it the second it came up for sale.
The hardest thing in here is not having Alicia for NG+ in order to ace missions lol
This game is pretty great!
I can’t fucking wait for this game I’ve been waiting for a game on switch that’s my style I don’t really like xenoblades combat system or octopaths graphics that much don’t get me wrong octopath is a great game but when I only can get one $60 a month I’m gonna go with games where all aspects sound enticing I’ve been waiting for this game for so long and it’s gonna be one of the first switch games I’m gonna be able to sick countless hours into
I want Brandon Jones to murmur sweet game reviews in my ear.
That white border though
As a newcomer, do I need to know the first game's plot to understand this one? Or is it basically stand alone?
From the demo it seems there are occasional references to events that happend in the first game - as VC 1 and VC 4 are happening at the same time just from different perspectives - but you should be fine without playing them, as the story itself is self containt.
I wish it has a PvP mode
just put like couple hours into remastered first one...I know for fact I have to get this...great game..VERY unique..nothing like it. Actually control your own aim. Not like ucom or w/e with 90% chance hit and misses. You get to know your GUYS its awesome.
What's there to change? It was gorgeous then, it's gorgeous now. lol
AAAAWWWWWWW YEAAAAAAHHHHH!
ITS BACON TIME!!!!!
I would love to play it, but SEGA put such an *atrocious regional pricing* on it, it's impossible to buy it.
It's *DOUBLE* the previous (regional) price for $60 games, which was already expensive than Valve's standard.
Goddamn where you live for it to be that high ?
@@cole9693 I'm from Indian region. This game costs *Rs. 3999* , and previously SEGA's regional pricing was *Rs. 1999* for $60 games, which is already more expensive than Valve's standard regional pricing of *Rs. 1299.*
This is the kind of situation we and many other non-US/Europe regions have to face on Steam.
Publishers ignore the standard pricing (which actually reflects the purchasing power of our currency) and set it to whatever they feel like.
It's called *regional* pricing for a reason.
@@hemangchauhan2864 wow.....
Oh hell nuh that's too Much
shame to hear that.
You can't just change your psn account region to u.s, change to a u.s street address and buy it off our psn store?
I pre-ordered it on amazon for switch back in May. But now that i've got a PS4Pro.. I'm not so sure about it... though, i received a 20% off by pre--ordering it in advance. Ugh..decisions..
Oh no not an anime butt! Bring out those Damiani pitchforks!
Graphics and framerate comparison between PS4/Xbox and Switch? !
Can we get release dates on the review vids?
"battles that can take an hour or more" geez man, did you spend a couple turns enjoying the scenery?

Akame Ga Kill with softer version (less violence and still make any sense).
