Question: Do you think it's possible digital purchases are skewed? Not every nintendo game has a physical version, especially indie games.
What if those 1st party games sell more physical copies then digital? Also, what about the fact there are some out there who buy the digital because they want it ASAP, and then purchase the physical copy at a later time.
There's a lot more to consider for Nintendo physical sales.

Game developers have been focusing on digital only for this entire generation. If people hadn’t noticed there are many games that are sold in the physical cases but only contain a download code. Alternatively, disconnect your internet and insert a brand new game…CAN’T BE PLAYED, as the disc/cartridge only contains a small portion of the game, but requires a 10+GB “update” on day one. (That isn’t an update, that is downloading majority of the game.). It is pretty sad when physical games eventually will die out but I do feel that with Nintendo. They are one of the last to still embrace physical media fully and at least in Japan more than half of sales of current switch games or physical games rather than digital. I think it’s closer in the west, but least we Nintendo uses are still very much enthusiastic about physical games, so I don’t see Nintendo getting rid of physical games any time soon, especially with it being such a Huge part of sales of games for the current switch, and I’ll even argue that a lot of Nintendo switch users in the west still very much by physical games at least I do still for my switch. As for physical media on PS5 and Xbox series X physical media is pretty much useless on those systems because you still have to download the rest of the game where is at least with the switch cartridges at least with Nintendo games, the full game is on the cartridge.

@@skullkid8094 I've been adamantly saying for the past 15 or so years to vote with your wallet, since whenever I bought Spore and had to crack my purchased copy because I was making immature spaceships(I was 15 or 16) that I attempted to set to NOT share with others, but the game still shared the data with EA, and them deleting it server-side resulted in my game updating client-side with the spaceships deleted and corrupting my save file. The response I got from most people: "Sucks to be you," as they continued to buy more and more games from EA, while they'd complain more and more as the years went on and practices got worse, but they kept buying.
Unfortunately, people, by and large, *will not change if it requires effort.* With more accessibility, instant gratification, options(or illusion thereof), etc., people have become complacent. They'll complain about stuff, but keep tossing money at it, with the worst justifications you can imagine. It's like they don't understand the concept of being a *customer* and buying a product that you want as it is, instead of being a "consumer," where you're financially supporting a company or individual for a product you _wish_ to have, that does not actually exist. Many people are horribly complacent, and they feel no reason to change this.
So from here, the companies definitely *do* dictate the market and trends. The people can't dictate this when "the people" do not function as a collective that will go even slightly against the grain.

Then you pay whatever they want to charge as a subscription or you have no games / movies / music at all. Not to mention the creators get little to no payment, or in future it might all be made by AI. Big corporations paying nothing and charging for everything. Resist.

I agree with most of this video, I would hate an all digital future. But we will most likely be able to access the files or the all digital games unless the system is going to be completely homebrew/modding blocked like the Xbox One and Series. For example there are tons of Digital Only 3DS games I can download right now from certain sites because people mod the systems and extract the files of the games, but who knows maybe the next Nintendo systems will be Homebrew proof. Hope not...

Nowadays, we don't even have online manuals anymore. You just have to go and hope the game will explain anything to you. Or just go online to those unofficial guides. It's just not the same experience anymore 😥

The all digital future isn't that bad. It's only going to be bad when streaming becomes the only way. Though all of those video and movie streaming services you mentioned are failing anyway. Only a few of them have been profitable, but game streaming is horrendous. I play on Switch and PC and I only get digital copies now but so long as you hack you consoles those games are yours forever and long as they're not online games the game is still yours to play so long as you don't delete it but with hacked systems you have piracy as an option when companies get out of hand. Backup ypur games to separate folders and enjoy. The collection editions I agree losing those will be no fun but I'm sure they'll still do em and give you a code

While I do agree with the almost all the statements in this video, there is one that I disagree with. I know that game preservation will still be possible in an all digital world. Even with digital games there will still be people who rip digital roms and make emulators for them. If you want an example of this, the 3ds has digital roms uploaded all the time. You can always emulate 3ds game too. Game preservation is always possible, as long as there are enough people who put in effort to preserve them.

There's nothing fun about collecting digital media. Take less space on a hard drive. I prefer to buy physical copies of a video game/book/movie because it's actually preserving the media itself. I know digital does too but I personally prefer something I can actually feel in my hands. Plus you can keep playing your games whenever your internet goes down which is a thing you can't do with digital games.

We're already seeing it with games like pokemon ORAS: the digital shop has closed down and the physical cartridges break down left and right (at least the European versions are notorious for that): digital games are lost when the medium is no longer supported by the developer.
I don't want just a license to play a game until the developer says 'no'. I love booting up games from 20-25 years ago for some nostalgia. That will no longer be possible in the future, unless you go for pirating.

Like I get it for PC, you need a whole DVD drive and stuff like it is massively inconvenient but right now, it isn't massively more convenient to get physical games on consoles compared to digital so physical will survive. If we do go into the all digital future, I believe there should be laws passed to protect the consumer so you know, we actually own our games, as well, maybe companies could be required to participate in preserving their games so they won't be lost forever but yea that's just me.

Almost every casual gamer I've talked to IRL is at most vaguely aware of buying games digitally and just prefers to walk into a store and pick up a case or even order a physical copy from amazon or something. I see the same when I'm talking to any type of gamer in general with the Xbox Series X/S. leaks can very much still happen in an all digital future
leakers always find a way to leak stuff
but yeah for now it's still possible to redownload games you bought digital, if that comes when this is no longer possible...yeah that's a future I don't wanna see, even in an all digital future (then I guess you gotta make sure to always have them downloaded and installed, but that can be an issue if we don't have enough space, even with storage expansions)
tho as a collector of certain things, I like collection the boxes the games comes in and sometimes the collectors editions too
I don't wanna see that go away, same goes for stuff like movies
like it's great when they're on the service you use, but with an all digital future, if they decide to take them down, there's no longer any way for you to watch or play them, which is why I like collecting the physical copies, so I still have them if they go off the service
the only thing I can give those far in the future if they're living in a digital only future is: hope the old game gets added to the online service, or get a remake or remaster, cause that would be the only way you can play them then.
Basically, don't get rid of physical media, industries
there's so many reasons to keep them and lot more positives about keeping it, then there is to not do it

Nintendo is all about collectibles and merch, they will be last to go digital only. A digital only world for games and media will happen but also end.
The reason I state that is our infrastructure is not getting better. Once someone hacks a streaming service it’s game over for that company in the future.
There will be a rise in physical media after people realize they don’t own there game library.
Physical games from years past are already fetching high prices due to broken copies etc even mass produced games like Pokemon.
When people realize that they will start to want physical games again.
Unless people start buying physically more the demand for digital will only go up.
Until the digital eco system cant keep up and collapses. When that happens all companies will be in a panic. A solar flare for example knocking out wifi on grids for years is a great example of something that could happen, or hacking into servers and shutting them down. Which is becoming more of a possibility. When digital becomes the way, its when I stop supporting the company who makes the games.
