I am so so so glad that Danny mentioned the terrific makeuo effects in Always Sunny and it makes me happy it's one of his favourite aspects of the show. It really is a subtle but integral aspect of the show - no matter the circumstance they will go all out on makeup in some regard, a steady and ridiculous degradation of the characters throughout the episodes. It's absolutely incredible and helps sell the "consequences" of their actions.
Especially when his dressing room is on one side of the stage and his little beauties are on the other.
David Hornsby's make-up gets more shocking each time we see him. It's hilarious.
Diddling kids ep with his nosebleed bandaged face was priceless
He said in another interview that he got into acting because his sister owned a beauty salon and sent him to study to become a makeup artist so he could help her out, but as he was doing it he ended up doing an acting class and fell in love with it.
“Dee Day,” when she makes Dennis take off his makeup and everything is my favorite. He looks like a goblin, and him trying to hit on the councilwoman was absolutely hilarious.

I watched Matilda again yesterday. It's a gem of a film.
One of my favourite kids’ movies. Really fantastic.
I read that the girl who played Matilda was going through some really hard times while filming. Danny and his Wife basically took care of her for a while. Put her with their own kids and became like second parents.
@@Melissa-wx4lu Mara Wilson has (or had) an online writing blog where she mentions how grateful she was for the care and love that Danny and Rhea gave to her and her family during that time. I don't know if her blog is still online, but that article was heartwarming to read, and she's grown up as a very good writer.
I just want to express how much I love Danny DeVito. I've been losing a lot of my childhood heroes either through death or reprehensible action lately. But Danny is still here. Still full of life, still making people smile. The look in his eyes as he asks what his interviewers thought about his Hercules singing performance has made me tear up. Thank you Danny for bringing us decades of your art and inspiration.
He really is a treasure. Hope he’s around for a long time.
Agree many great celebrities past away but some are still around so that is very sweet.
It's somehow really great that his most memorable and beloved character is the one he's still playing. To the point it almost eclipsed his pervious characters.

Danny always speaks with such joy at the chance to play such a grotesque character in The Penguin, so much so that he often remarks about the fun he had doing it and he's been involved in the franchise in some way ever since (writing his own Penguin comic, opening a WB exhibit, etc). I think he relishes playing Frank because he's able to play another grotesque, eating trash and being debauched. He loves it.
Penguin is a great character, especially Tim Burton’s penguin. They even channeled him in the new Batman movie. He was different, but still had lots of similarities
@@KatieLHall-fy1hw I think the new Penguin is what would've happened if he was washed into a gangsters pool rather than a sewer
Also loved the Penguin in the Gotham series.
Matilda is a masterpiece and national treasure. I also loved him with Michael Douglas in Romancing the Stone/Jewel of the Nile. Brilliant actor and director.
Yeah, He mentioned Michael Douglas but did not show those 2 movies. Yes they were campy videos, but I really liked them!!! And yes I LOVED Matilda.
Yes, am surprised Romancing the Stone wasn't mentioned but SOOO glad Matilda was. I was 9 when I went to see that with my brother and friend. I was so creeped out by Trunchball. Such a dark, weird feeling coming out of that theatre but I loved it!! Big ups Danny, been a fan since Penguin and Herb Powell and a continued fan with Frank Reynolds!
Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, and Danny Devito were all in the film "War of The Roses" which Devito had directed.
Romancing the stone is better than most of the films mentioned.
The actress who played Matilda mother was going though chemo or something and when things went south with her health it was before the release of the movie and they had a private viewing of it with her. And then after she passed adopted the young lady because she had no family. It was the opposite of the movie

Danny is such an absolute sweetie. I still want a live version of Hercules just so we can see Danny as Phil and not the voice over. I'll always love the animated version but he's actually perfect to also play Phil on screen.

How did they not mention the way Danny took care of Mara (main character in Matilda) when her mom irl had cancer. He is a good dude, everyone should know.
Yeah. He even had a private screening of the movie for her mom before she died before it was even released.

It’s in his soul
I literally started singing the song. HOW DARE HE.
He sounded like he became Phil for a second!
Interesting fact about Danny DeVito’s casting as Phil in Hercules. He was always the directors’ first choice to voice Phil, but he didn’t want to audition, so several other actors, including Ernest Borignine, Ed Asner, and Burgess Meredith, auditioned for it, but the directors still wanted Danny DeVito. They sat down with him at a pasta lunch during the filming of Matilda and got him to sign on for the role.
Craziest coincidence is (at this time) Danny is the only one alive. Much respect to the other legends, though, especially Ed Asner.
So glad Danny DeVito was cast as Phil, Ernest Borgnine, Edward Asner and Burgess Meredith wouldn't seem like they would fit
One of my favorite Danny Devito movies was 1994 Renaissance Man. It's a lesser known movie but he does such a riveting performance I remember my favorite line: "all I know is the choices we make dictates the lives we lead".

Danny Devito is one of those actors that everyone enjoys seeing in shows/movies
Other actors: talking about their art
Danny DeVito: "OH MAN, ACTING IS LIKE REALLY COOL, I MEAN WOW"
Even if the movie itself is bad if Danny is in it then it's usually enjoyable because of how good his performances are.
My favourite Danny story is when he was directing Matilda, the little girl in it her mother was dying, so he got through the shoot and rushed an edit together so she could watch her daughters big screen debut before she passed. That is a sign of a good guy.
And then he and Rita perlman also took extensive care of mara, the girl who played Matilda while and after her mom was dying. Absolute beautiful people
