Double LEGO Bakery Modular Building (From Police Station)

- Today I doubled up the donut bakery/cafe from the LEGO Police Station Modular Building. In the original set, this building is attached to the police station and was only 8 studs wide. The new and improved version sits on its own half baseplate and has a larger bakery and a loft apartment above.

One thought is your modifications have resulted in a very flat building frontage. Where as the original design gave some contrast in depths. Maybe consider changing the sidewalk depth on some buildings to maintain some contrast. Looks really good though. Liking the content lately.
Agreed. Looks like one giant block of buildings now.
In my opinion, a better approach would've been to keep the police station as is and expand the bakery and green building next to it.
i agree
Came here to comment this. I want to encourage you to continue but take this comment until consideration. Just increasing size is not always good. You might end up with a lot of boxy flat buildings. You want dimensions and depth. Maybe play with making it closer to the original designs.
I was actually thinking the exact same thing. Especially when he showed the buildings together at 10:20
I love the rebuild, but it's looking a bit flatter than the original. One thing I really love is different depths/heights, as not all buildings are uniform.
Don't worry about anyone who doesnt like how this looks. As long as you enjoyed the build and how it looks, then stick with it.
I do tons of photography and I learned years ago that not everyone will like my style. You inspire so many AFOLs and young kids all the time, they much outnumber the ones who don't agree with what you've done with your MOCs.
Keep positive and working on your LEGO creations. 👍
Along with good points others have made... the varying height of the buildings in the original made it more interesting to look at
I've been doing this for years. Ever since the Pet Shop came out. I buy 2 of each modular and expand them out to full size modulars.
You should put the bed part against the back wall of the building so the bathroom is closed and you have a beautiful two story window view from the bed. Just an idea :)
The donut shop looks great!!
I love this concept. As you mentioned, Lego tries to incorporate various buildings into one set and at the end you get cramped spaces and too much to go on. I'm looking forward to seeing more doubled versions❤
Disagreed
I saw a loft like that in Japan so unreal.. you did amazing with the expansion of this building I love your version better.
Love to see the wider police station next to the expanded donut shop. It feels like that's what Lego meant for people to do. To double each element of the build by buying 2 to 3 sets. Doing what you're doing is a great way to get unique builds with a familiar feel. Like your expanded hotel. I wanted to do a 2x version of the Bricklink "Castle in the Forest" but never got the chance. Maybe I will 2x the next Bricklink castle.
the loft apartment is so cool
In the inside of the apartment where the walls are grey you could have a minifigure painting as if its still a work in progress
Awesome job
Lego should bring back full modular buildings
For a city that is constantly running out of space, this is the most nonsensical move. Even if it adds SOME better value to the city, there is absolutely no way it adds MORE value than something totally new.
Another great custom keep up the good work
It’s so cute! I love the purple colour it really does make it pop!
I think it’s a much better way to build a Legocity, with the added chance of doing what you’re doing by modifying them if when you can. Great idea Lego 🥰✌️🇬🇧
My only criticism this for this week is… lol
you could add another little pink flower to the green leaf on the window seals of the doughnut/cafe 😂✌️
I really like the Rebrickable model from Legofan21. It has Central Perk on the bottom floor that really makes the set really good
Detective Office was the shift in the new way of doing things. Love what you're doing here Jordan!
I'd consider replacing one of the rear windows in the loft area with a window mounted air conditioner. It would add some cool details.
Having modularized the Queer Eye loft myself, I recognized the carpet by your bed as having come from that set! Good job!
love these bigger visions of the builds however to me i think they need some more variation in depth from the sidewalk. when all those big buildings are next to each they end up just looking like a big wall and looks kind of flat. But deeding on where end up in the city the neighboring building could change that
The Pet Shop did it too, and I think it was in 2011. It was the first one to have a Pet Shop (which was just like one small section of the build) and the other part was like a town house. Only half of the modulars had just one building, the other half had multiple buildings together. But I think I understand what you mean.
Keep going. Loving all of these upgrades. Been thinking of doing them myself, doubling the smaller side buildings
I would stagger the buildings vertically and horizontally, but these look great!!
One suggestion - the original building wasn't a full 3 floors high, and that variety of height was one of the things I loved about the set.
Why not build the 2nd floor as a floor & a half? Move the loft bed to the rear of the building so it covers the bathroom, put in floor to ceiling windows in the front. Figure out something clever for the stairs (a column of 1x2 door rails inset into the wall instead of the ladder element?).
That would give all the advantages of your current design, while making it more visually interesting from the outside, and you might not even need to find any additional d.brown window or purple brick elements.
Dude that looks amazing! Great job!
Wow! So cool! I wish I could live in this city
awesome video jordan the bakery looks amazing great job
Nicely done, Bricksie!
Your really creating amazing structures. Great episode keep up the great work.
The purple apartment kinda reminds me of Monica’s apartment in “friends”!
Btw, lots of small studio apartments have mini mezzanine levels, often accessed by a ladder
Lastly, just a side comment that the plus side to having more elements in a modular building is that you get more buildings in a smaller space, I have a space between my cupboards with just enough room for diner-jazz club- assembly square (in that order) - it fits perfectly and looks like a mini city, with lots of buildings not just three 😊
having smaller units in with the modular probably allows them to use ideas for buildings that they think wouldn't sell on their own.
make a removable cap: that looks like the top of a toilet, or make the cap a ladder access stowage space for common household stuff. for the top of the second story bathroom that is. (edit to clarify)
Some ideas to improve this upgrade: make the police station one floor higer! Now is a little bit square... Move the cafe/donutshop one or two tiles back to create depth. And last add the ivy in the left site it creates a nice border between the two buildings and adds colour! I'd love to hear what you thing about it!
i miss that story when they steal the donuts from the bed.
I love legos as much as I love bricksie❤
Unlimited donuts for the police station!
I love all these. Well done!
I love the Donut Café, nice interior🤩🤩🤩
I don't really like to criticize, because it looks really cool, but building every building the same size removes depth from the city. In the original build both side buildings are a bit indented, wich gives it some contrast.
I like this and I hope you would make a bulding tutorial for some of your modulor buldings!
I definitely like the 16-stud donut shop and apartment and double-sized police station.
i love your vidoes please make more (i just bought the police station!) i cant wait for the new video!
The donut shop looks fantastic and I appreciate that you explained how many parts are actually needed to upsize it like this. I had been thinking of ordering a lot of parts just to make a big purple donut shop because that's my favourite part of the police modular (that I don't plan on buying). Now I think I'll just enjoying seeing your donut shop from time to time in your city. Many thanks☺
And I think you once mentioned that you might upsize the pizza shop next to the Jazz Club? That would be a fun one, too!
should add a year to the police station since it looks like an older building
Lego should employ you as the new Jamie!
The vines are missing it gives some texture
In many of those building also they have a roof with little apartment in it, that would ad an other floor and brak up some of the flatt roofs and make them pointy. Would be nice, a bit more european style I guess.
To cover the bathroom, just put the loft on that side. It’s also a little more realistic to walk in with loft above and have a high ceiling great room.
I always thought the police station and donut shop was too skinny. I built a double of them from a rebrickable MOC
The Donut Shop looks Goood.
I love the desing from the building
Cool!
looks...sweet....
I love the increased size of your buildings. Thank you for your daily blogs.
Im sorry im late but this moc is amazing! (Like always)
Over what you did ,but I wonder if it would look maybe ,you had left the police station itself the original size and looks and just enlarged the rest
Looks fantastic!!!
Yes that looks great!
double 🍩cafe love the art inside awsome upgrades
Another cracking build. I'm very much enjoying what you're doing with your city, Bricksie. I visited the Lego Store in Liverpool today and thought of you. I used the Minifigure Factory for the first time (I'd been inspired by one of your videos). Now, why do I suddenly want to eat donuts...? 😂🍩🍩🍩
Nice builds. For some odd reason I'm craving donuts right now.
I'm always craving donuts
With the wider apartment the loft being so narrow makes less sense. I would have expanded the loft to the back wall on the right, leave the ladder where it is, and add a home office/den area. The fence railing turns 90 degrees. But I'm from NYC…what do I know about living in loft apartments ;)
Think you need something outfront of the window it looks a little emty i think cool building idea thou think ill do the same someday thanks for the idea
I wanna see the process of putting the titanic where it's at 😂
Really does pop and they all look great line up !
In the Dino's exhibition there is one Police Station and one Assembly Square. You now have 4 though since you bought a 4th at the Lego store after filming this video!
Diner is a diner but also a gym and record studio
But the facade is all diner
Love the look of the donut shop. I have wanted to do the same with mine as well but I probably wont due to how my city is done and already having a 2nd donut shop in my city.
Looks good!
Looking good Jordan😉👍 .... Now you need to go to the next level & light them all up & the rest of the city. I think that's what it's missing.
Nice job with the donut shop. Only thing I think the original design did better was the overlapping double donut sign on the front; with the current two seperate donut signs it just looks 'messy' and 'disconnected'. Just my 2 cents. Cheers for the video!
Love your content!
Perfect
Need a bat signal on top of that police station!
I would love to live in that loft.
Looks so good🙏🏼😇🩶✨
Mmmmmm.. donuts😋🍩
Love it, but I think most loft designs would be be over the bathroom in the back of the apartment.
Where space is a premium, i'm not sure i see the logic in making existing buildings bigger. It really doesn't add anything to the aesthetic and takes up valuable real estate. Would it not be better to use the space to create something new and original?
100% agree. While I’ve watched every Bricksie episode over the past 3 years, and enjoy the content, one thing I’m often surprised about are decisions that are made today without thinking ahead to tomorrow. You just know that in a few weeks there is going to be a video ‘No more space’.
You are cool 😎
😎
Hey bricksie, I have a huge lego crane that I would like for you to have, although it would take a while for me to be able to deliver it, I would like for you to have it! Pls respond if you would like it
The donut thief is out of business with no access to fish donuts out of the shop. I would have liked to have seen a carpet or couch that could flip up. The expanded set is awesome butI am all about the donut thief.
You should issue out rebrickable instructions on these builds you're doing!
Those look great and will be great additions to your city.
I swear he leaves the bricks not fully set to trigger us
When you double them you get more than double the interior space cause there is no 2 studs in the middle
Homer Simpson would approve
Now those 8-wide buildings don't look right, as now I see them as being to small compared to what you just did which looks nicer overall with the other buildings.
Put a modular roof on the toilet…
Hey Bricksie, I’m trying to get started on building my own custom mocs and was just wondering how you get so much bull lego off bricklink, are there any sellers that you like most?
put a guy inside pain in the walls
The Donuts on the wall are hidious and not even donuts at all.
They all look so great together ! That Fire Brigade is my dream set !!
When you double your designs it makes me think of 12 Grimauld place when it stretches out 😂
Lol 🤣
I absolutely love that donut shop! The purple is so fun.
Do you have instructions coming up?
Working on learning studio
Bricksie, what Modular is best overall for a first Modular. I’m going to get one and I’m leaning more toward police station or boutique hotel but I don’t know what is the best. Love your vids! Keep up the great work 😁
Police station as I am sure it’s retiring this year .
Assembly square is also at risk of retirement and is really striking. I’d start there.
@@dereksonderegger I’ll have a look into that one thanks
ever considered making instructions? :)
do you do custom buildings for ur city?
As of right now, he’s customizing his modulars
