If you want to play as a custom house and are looking for a good place to start without disrupting the lore, I recommend Dunstonbury in the Reach. It was the old holding of house Manderly before they fled to the North. Afterwards, it was one of the holdings of house Peake before they had it taken from them for supporting the Blackfyres. There's no lore on Dunstonbury after that so you can fit right in if you start there. The path to forming the Dutchy there is also very simple and easy. You can pretty quickly become one of the more influential houses in the Reach there.

Smth interesting to do in Dorne is starting as Doran Martell, then you give Oberyn, your brother, and one of my fav. characters from the books, and the show, a title, and just switch to his character. The way I did it, and would surely do it again, is to use my crazy scheeming stats to kill historical-canonical rivals like Tiwyin and The Mountain, infiltrating the Iron Throne court and of course making my daughter Nymeria Sand a legitimized bastard so she can be my heir and take over Dorne for the "Bastards of Dorne". It was a crazy run and I highly recommend it.

I'm honestly a little surprised you didn't even mention house Frey. They're by far the most powerful duchy in the Riverlands, with their special building at the Twins giving a huge boost to levies and gold. The mountain of kids, grandkids, and great grandkids also lets you not only create functionally infinite alliances with whoever you want, but get your dynasty members on seats. With Walder's high intrigue, you can easily kill Gyles Rosby, his wife, and yours to get Freys ruling Rosby. Another easy pickup is marrying one of your kids to Falyse Stokeworth (AI will always accept patrilineal) and having kids of your dynasty inherit after her.

Went for reviving House Harroway because of their badass sigil, starting as a count in the bay of crabs. One thing that was really cool was that the iron throne collapsed entirely after the civil war, leading to the kingdoms becoming independent high kingdoms once more. Made Harroway Tower near Lord Harroway's Town the capital again instead of Harrenhall, played the marriage game and eventually became king of the riverlands through political cunning, without any warfare

You stat right next to Gull Town, which is a very powerful seat but owned by a relatively weak house, so you can take it by force very quickly, giving you an early start with TWO powerful seats. Another interesting one in Dorne would be house Yronwood. They are stony dornishmen as well, and they have a historic rivalry with the Martels. When the Rhoynar arrived and established themselves, the Yronwoods were the dominant petty kings in Dorne, and after being subdued, they remained the second strongest house, and also kept quite the grudge, participating in rebellions from then on and so fourth. They are also situated in the Dornish Marches, the border with the Stormlands, so there's also possibility for action there

    Some more good options
    North:
-Forresters, family you use in the Telltale game. Start as counts under the Glovers, so it’s a good starting small option.
-Mormonts, not a very powerful house, but they obviously have Longclaw and a lot of characters that play big roles in the series.
    Riverlands:
-Mallisters, very cool house. Jason Mallister is a pretty awesome character who famously crushed an ironborn attack outside his castle and killed Balon Greyjoys eldest son.
-Pipers, decently strong house with a cool banner. Some cool characters have come from there.
    Vale:
-Corbrays, home to some of the most famous knights in Westeros and a Valyrian steel sword, Lady Forlorn. Had some very tight connections to the Targaryens for a good bit of their reign. A Corbray famously dueled Daemon Blackfyre for an hour at the Redgrass Field.
    Crownlands:
-Darkes/Darkwoods/Dargoods, all three are county level cadets of the now extinct Darklyn’s. Could be fun to try to retake Duskendale.
-Crabb or Brune, two most notable houses in the Claw. Both have had some cool members.
    Westerlands:
-Westerlings, the family of Jeyne Westerling aka Robb’s Wife in the books. Were very wealthy and notable house at one point until their silver mines ran dry, could be fun to try to revive them a bit.
    Stormlands:
-Conningtons, house gives off a very Griffindor vibe and is home to one of the best characters in the series, Jon Connington. For Roberts Rebellion it is a tough start since you will be at war with Robert and right on his doorstep.
    Reach:
-Fossoways (green or red), super cool house claiming descent to the Westeros equivalent of Robin Hood, Foss the Archer. Red branch has much more land, but the Green branch is significantly cooler.
-Osgreys, once mighty house that saw its lands get reduced significantly after Aegon’s conquest and again after siding with the Blackfyres. Most notably the house Duncan the Tall is employed by in the The Sworn Sword.
    Dorne:
-Yronwoods, one of the most powerful and rich families in Dorne. Before Nymeria’s conquest they ruled as the largest kingdom in Dorne.

  • @TheDrexxus
    @TheDrexxus Před 22 dny +1

My current playthrough, I started as House Vikary of Borrenline because they have house Reyne ancestry.
I then proceeded to marry my daughter to Tyrion Lannister, who was Tywin's heir, in order to get my blood in charge of the Westerlands. And while I did manage to marry Tyrion, there were apparently a lot of assassinations going on that I wasn't a part of that threw a wrench into everything
First Tywin was killed, making Tyrion the lord. Then Tyrion was murdered, making my granddaughter lord, which is what I wanted, but then SHE was murdered while still a child, making Cersei lord. Then SHE was murdered, making prince joffery lord.
I fabricated claims all this time to seize all the lannister lands (which included castamere) and by the time joffery was lord there, I immediately declared war on him to take all his territory. Using allies and mercenaries bought with Iron Bank loan money, I was able to take casterly rock, which got Joffery prisoner and ended the war. And boy sieging casterly rock takes forever, even with a full team of trebuchets.
Unfortunately, DURING the war, by reasons I still don't really understand, some guy in the northern part of the westerlands was able to make a faction and take the paramouncy of the westerlands away from joffery, so even after I won the war, I didn't have that. I did, however, have all the lannister lands.
Now having reclaimed Castamere, i did the restoration of house Reyne and changed our dynasty and sigil and whatnot over. The lannister main branch was removed from power, though their cousins still ruled as my vassals in lannisport.
My status improving to high lordship rather than just lordship made me a more desirable match for marriage. I wed my son to Daenerys Targaryen all the way over in essos. She wasn't in line to inherit their county, but I didn't want or care about one county in essos so I didn't bother assassinating viserys to take it. Interestingly enough, she refused marriage unless it was matrilineal. She REALLY wanted her kids to be Targaryens, but I did too so that was fine, I just found it interesting.
Once they became of age, they started printing Targaryen heirs who would inherit casterly rock and a huge portion of the Westerlands.
I'm hoping to have paramouncy of the westerlands before my targaryen heirs take over. What a fun surprise that would be for the realm. My ultimate goal is of course the iron throne itself, but we'll have to see what the best method of getting there will be. Once upon a time in CK3 I would use a tactic where i'd play a female seductress who would become the lover of a king until I had a boy bastard with him, then tell everyone it was his bastard, then legitimize him, and then he would be next in line to inherit the throne. I havent played CK3 in a long time though so we'll see if it still works.
One thing I find funny about this mod is all the random marriages. It's so odd to see Robb Stark, warden of the north, married to some Hornwood girl and Peter Baelish is just some poor guy married to some random noble lady still living in the fingers and not being part of any court. I'm tempted to play a Peter Baelish run and focusing entirely on scheming and assassinations and such and see if I can make him king in his lifetime. It's really too bad you can't incite other rulers to fight one another or dislike one another. I don't really think it's possible though to take the crown without either kids or conquest, but we'll see!

House Peake is also recommended. Starts off with one County and can easily form a high lordship.
Lore wise, House Peake has a good play through to restoring greatness of their house since they descended from Garth Greenhand. Peake also has alot of history in large events such as the Blackfyre Rebellion and the Dance of Dragons siding with the losers on both.
    Things to do are
    1. Overthrow Tyrells since most houses of the reach don't view Tyrells as legitimate and other houses have much better claims.
    2. Bring back Prestige to House Peake after losing their holdings after multiple failed blackfyre rebellions and uprisings.

It’s not lore friendly and a pain to get started, but I just started playing as Jon Snow during the war of the five kings. I removed his loyalties to the nights watch and had him take over Moat Cailin as a vassal to Robb. I love when his parentage is revealed and he gets his own Targaryen Sigil that’s white with a grayish dragon. Joffrey started a war with me and it ended in a ‘stalemate’ as Stannis won the iron throne. I’m currently rebuilding Cailin and building up my armies to try and take it from him.
