I know this is kind of old but for reference those "weird screws" are security torque screws
and they take a CR-VT8H bit or driver

You can remove the security without it saying void. Use a hairdryer and put it aim it at the seal. Slowly pill any corner and if you do it slowly the seal won't void.

NOTE: The screws on the backplate of the motherboard are VERY TIGHT, if you cant take them out try heating them up with a torch lighter, that did it for me.
I have 2 screws that are holding the metal plate to the motherboard. Iv'e tried my hardest to take them out but they won't budge. I dont want to hit it with anything for fear of cracking the motherboard and i cant use wd 40 or oil cuz it will leak to the motherboard. Anyone have any idead how to get the screws out?
Ordered some pliers at Amazon.com called Vampliers and it did the trick. WARNING - If the screw is really tight like mine; regular pliers wont work. The Vampliers have razor sharp ridges in the teeth and it grasp even the circular screws out easily. I payed like 30 bucks but it was well worth it. I got the Mini version (4.72") 120mm. Dont get anything bigger or it wont work. Peace Out.

You can use a Alan Key to remove the hexagonal/ safety screws
Someone help please!! My PS3 is a cech25, I can downgrade but I can't get the mother board out cause my fan Is connected to the plastic at the bottom so it's impossible to take it out
The safety screw has and Allenkey head. You can just use a Allen key or your way works.
would have to be pretty small but luckly my dads an engineer so he has so many tools in his garage
Yeah, the safety screw is called a Torx bit. The one for a PS3 apparently is a T8 (Torx Security 8). It's used for XBOX 360s, Xbox one controllers and the slim PS3. I reccomend buying a Torx bit set rather than using Allen keys.

i always play with top cover of ps3 removed and with that instead of 74 i get 64 temperature after 3 hours of playing
when i finish playing i just return top cover on its place,main rules no crazy friends,eating or drinking from the glass while playing it this way
what kinda screw were you using to open the motherboard ?

that's the set of sizes I use. I use the 1/16 for the safety screws and 1/8 for pretty much everything else. I also use a slightly bigger screwdriver for the cpu/gpu clips.

I've unscrewed and took out everything but the mother board isn't coming out
the motherboard is supposed to be on pretty tightly. I normally get a flat head screwdriver and use it as a wedge. With some leverage, it comes out.

i bricked my ps3 slim but it still lets me go to recovery mode i tried restore file system and it didnt do anything i bricked it by switching to dex and trying to go online i have no idea what to do please help me anyone. feel like a fucking idiot

Thank god. I have the CECH-2002A PS3 which has a square cut out of the metal motherboard plate right where the CMOS battery is. Take out the Blu Ray drive and there it is. They actually saw some sense with this variant.
