It's got that nostalgic feeling of trying to comunicate in english with the germans + the fact you work on ps3s (which was all the rage when I lived in Leverkusen). Thanks a lot for this informative video. forgive me for crappy vocab. I have a ps3 cecha00 firmware 4.86 rebug, the launch model. It has the 19-blade fan and i already clean and delid both cpu and gpu and give a new thermal paste (coolermaster mastergel pro maker)
    And when i try to set the fan in webman(version 1.47.28) using syscon with room temperature 28.5°C, the cpu is maxed out at 74°C and the rsx is maxed out at 69°C while the syscon fan already kicking about 25% fan speed while on the xmb screen. Right now when i use my ps3 i always set the fan to a minimum 37% for the lowest and ps2 emulator, and auto kick the fan when temperature hits 67°C and my cpu is at 63 and my gpu is at 54. My question is, is my cpu and gpu dye is overheating or not? is my ps3 temperature normal with that circumstances? Should i lapped the ihs for the cpu and gpu? Should i also lapped the dye too(based on your ps4 pro dye lapped video)? And should i change my fan or just keep at 19 blade?
    Thanks you for your video and i hope for an answer if possible. Stay awesome and keep creating informative video like this.

    What is your opinion. Is it ok to use a slim console with the top lid removed?
    It runs cooler this way, but some on psx-place forum say that other components will overheat. Because it was designed to pull air in at the bottom on those vent holes. And you will disturb the cooling this way.

    Honestly I love SYSCON because it's the OFW default and so silent. The PS3 is designed that way so it should be safe to use without any modification even when it's new. I just replaced the thermal paste on my Slim CECH-2004b and it's the same over 70 celsius when gaming, GTA V was up to 78, but mostly 75-76. I can't understand how everyone is getting about 60 celsius without having that very fast fan lol. I think that just the super slim is cool and quiet, slim and fat are not and it's OK, it's by design.

      Not heat*sink*. It has a heatsink with a heatpipe much like a laptop.

      @xan1242 Před 2 lety

      @@tylern6420 Well, it is when you have a heatpipe. That's why you see many laptops and mobile devices without a heat spreader.
      Gamers Nexus and Der8auer did a lot of videos on this subject.
      The reason why you see heat spreaders is usually for other reasons, such as protecting the die from being damaged and being a cheaper solution to spreading heat to metal fins (e.g. aluminium heatsinks).
      Nowadays you don't even see those on game consoles anymore because of more efficient heatsink designs (and usage of liquid metal on PS5).

  • @cortbino6172
    @cortbino6172 Před 2 lety +2

    I have one that definitely needs the heat spreaders removed.. the RSX in particular is running very hot.. once I got the jailbreak through it, the RSX was at 80c on syscon with with CPU running around 67!! Now as a jailbroken PS3 it runs on idle with the CPU at 51c and the RSX at 67c but the fan is running about 47% once it stabilizes . This is pretty terrible. I redid the thermal paste on top of the heat spreaders but it didn't help so this they must be removed but I don't feel too comfortable removing them. I wonder if I can just do the RSX since the CPU runs pretty cool and it is harder to remove that heat spreaders lol

      @@NSC-Modz Thank you for your tutorials, they are very helpful! Great content, I have been subbed for quite some time! This delidding procedure was an amazing success! I used your method and the RSX was surprisingly easy to delid without doing anything crazy to risk damaging the chips. It was so dry under that metal plate! I redid the thermal paste on the 4 memory chips as well as the main glass looking chip(The heat spreader doesn't seem to stick well afterwards and I was using Arctic Silver MX4 thermal paste but got it to be just right before putting the heatsink back on).. the RSX was a little burned looking inside or had some kind of flux or something in there so I took a toothbrush with 91% alcohol and gently brushed it until the majority of that was removed, I then cleaned and applied the MX4 thermal paste. This CECHA01 PS3 runs amazing now.. both the RSX and the CPU run within 2 degrees Celsius max of each other while the console is on idle.. After a half-hour on a 29% fan, the console was running both the RSX and the CPU at 66 degrees... this is a HUGE difference from what it was doing before (the RSX was taking off in custom firmware getting the fan as high as 70% just to keep it at 68, it went to 95% when I first switched it from SYSCON to 68c max). Man this is awesome. I still need to test its temperatures in game but so far this has made the RSX run an astounding 14c cooler at a much lower fan.. at the fan speed it was at before the delid it was around 20c. Awesome awesome success and I wasn't feeling too confident that this would work. Thanks again NSC!

    I have a weird issue. I was having some audio skipping issues. So I hopped on utube and learned how to disassemble my ps3 to clean the eyes. While I was in there, I cleaned the fan and the fins of the radiator from all dust with canned air and alcohol on q-tips. I did so and it worked flawlessly. Now after a week or so of use, my ps3 is overheating and turning off on me. I've never had this problem before. Why is it doing this now after I cleaned it? I figured it was good preventative maintenance.

      Hello, you did all right. But the thing is, when the ps3 was running hot before because all the dust and stuff, so there the thermal paste get damage faster. You now will need to apply new thermal paste, and better delid the IHS to, because inside the IHS is thermal paste. You can find a lot Videos on my channel about the PS3 IHS DELID.

    I am scared to do this to my Ps3 fat 60GB PAL model because I am a complete newbie I have applied The Artic-MX4 thermal paste above the IHS Plates but should I give it a try? I wanted to ask what tool should I use to heat up the CPU And RSX To apply the new thermal paste under them?

      Be really careful, better watch my latest videos on how about removing the IHS and better practice first on some broken ps3's before you do that on a working ps3...

      eBay is no more in my country so I can only find one 60GB PS3 on my local craigslist. I hope one unit will be enough for practicing. Anyway I want to know what tool do you use to heat up the IHS Chips?
