Understanding heart failure medications is essential for nursing students preparing for exams and the NCLEX.

I watched several of the videos on Simple Nursing’s CZcams channel to help me study for the NCLEX-RN & I’m so glad I did!! I took my NCLEX yesterday 7/25 and got all 130 questions 🥴 I had several questions about medications, especially these mentioned in this video. Although every exam is different for everyone, whenever nurse Mike tells you an NCLEX TIP, engrave that in your mind because it will show up! Absolutely awesome video. For the beta blockers, would you know why we'd use a non-cardioselective beta blocker over a cardioselective if you don't mind me asking? I'm trying to think of what blocking beta 2 receptors and constricting the airways might be good for, given we want to lower blood pressure. Had heart attack and lost 25% of heart muscle. Meds like Xanax, Lomotil and hydrocodone for back and numerous other maladies I held my own with an EF rate of 37% as I reached 80. These meds along with normal heart medicines allowed to continue good diet and plenty of exercise for 10 years. In the last two years doctors have cut off Hydro, lomotil and xanax. Too much advil created a bleeding ulcer. Now I just sit around in pain, poor sleep and depressed and am on a fast slippery slope down currently passing 30% EF. Thank you doctors.

I've watch the video before taking some mock exams. One of the question is saying that the patient has heart failure, what is the prescription the nurse is expecting. Options left me only Enalapril and Verapamil. I know both is correct per video but I have to choose one so I chose Pril and was marked correct. Per rationale, CCBs are contraindicated for patients with heart failure because of cardiac output effect. Noticed that the title doesn't include CCB so not sure. Did I miss anything on the video? Thank you in advance.

I have a question, so if someone has arrythmia and high blood pressure due to ultimately issues in the aorta, something like aortic dilation, if you work to lower the aortic dilation could you use an ARB if it seems to make the arrhythmia better, (like Irbesartan) or is it still ultimately best to not even use one despite studies backing the shrinking of the dilation, and instead use a calcium channel blocker?
I have congestive heart failure and I quit all medications, Never again.

Most professors don't want to simply "teach for the exam" so you are going to typically get way more info than you need, and they won't want to narrow it for you. He is teaching specific "need to know" info for the NCLEX.
