Absolutely agree! There has been nothing like the joining of John Steed and Emma Peel. This was what made The Avengers an awesome show. From every "Mrs. Peel - We're Needed" to Laurie Johnson's incredible Theme music, this show was in a class all by itself.
The greatest opening credits to a TV show ever. Grand, sweeping, sophisticated, and full of class. I was a teenager hopelessly in love with Diana Rigg when this show first aired. What memories!
Me too Michael!! I was about 12yrs old, when she came on the scene, and was heartbroken when she left the Avengers, and stopped watching it. The theme music was phenomenal.
My heart is also broken.....😢 I love Diana Rigg as Emma Peel....she was beautiful and a great actress!!! ❤ I saw her in 1984 for the first time in 'The Avengers' on tv, I was 13 at the time and I watched every episode and I always loved the way she acted...she was stunning!!! 🥂 💪
I loved the irreverent unorthodox style of this Series. The Fantasy. No two films were the same or predictable. I just watched almost ALL of the Series here before the CZcams closed them all. How sad we cant look at them anymore. Goodby Diana (with tears)
I remember as a child growing up in Los Angeles in about 1965 or so listening to this theme song when this show began. What a powerhouse then and what a powerhouse now.Such a time of innocence. I wish we could go back because this world of today is of turmoil.
The most badass grandma in Westeros, the only woman who managed to make 007 get monogamous... And now she's probably drinking champagne along with Patrick Mcnee. RIP Mrs Diana Rigg :-(
I couldn't agree more. I'm now literally incapable of watching normal TV. Countless channels of unadulterated garbage with 10 minutes of adverts every half hour. ...Who actually buys into this latter days s**t?
I loved this show as a child living in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. It was 100% British, it had so much style and class. I admired Diana Rigg, I wanted to be like her. It is a time that is long lost and will never return....makes me sad.
+Beatrice Maude I'm more familiar with Lumley in The New Avengers. Born '68. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is one of the saddest movie endings ever. xxx
Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg the greatest male/ female duo ever! Love them to this day-- Stay away from diabolical masterminds Patrick and rest in peace...so sad, but happy memories
I was just thinking that!!!!!!!!!! Since “Kingsmam”, I have never looked at umbrellas the same way. Mr. Steed, of course, had the Mk 1 version of the umbrella.
"Mrs. Peel--we're needed." Thanks for uploading this--these represent my favorite of the opening and closing credit sequences for one of the best TV series ever produced by sixties Britain. Elegant Diana Rigg moves like a dancer!
I was living in the desert of El Paso, Texas and Fridays approached with the feeling of relief the school week was over and I was excited about being able to stay up to watch the Avengers. The front door was left open and the desert air was cooled off perfectly by 9:00. Those were the days!
All those little glances... Macnee and Rigg had superb chemistry. And what it cooked up! From the instant that the bottle is deloped, the Avengers was an example of class.
There was only one female lead before Diana Rigg. That was Honor Blackman. I think there was only one after her - Linda Thorson. Honor Blackman is also known for playing "Pussy Galore" in the Bond films.
The character even had a costume designed for her in the series. It was known as a "catsuit". This was later licensed and sold as The Emmapeeler catsuit in various shops. As far as sexiness is concerned, you can keep ya miniskirts, and throw away ya hot pants: catsuits rule... 'nuff said! ;)
Diana looked great in any outfit they put her in! Check out her "Queen of Sin" costume from the episode - A Touch of Brimstone, it was so risque that the episode wasn't shown on American television for years after! Not only the outfits, but the way she played her character that made her sexy, very self assured, very tough, but very playful and fun with a sense of humor that made her very alluring!
One of the smartest, coolest TV shows ever! Beautifully written with dashes of humor and eccentricity. The chemistry between Steed and Emma Peel was terrific. I remember watching this in the 60s when it ran on American TV and enjoying every minute of the British production, so sophisticated. Light years ahead of American TV at the time.If you are too young to remember the show, go find some full episodes, especially from the 1966-1967 season. You are in for a treat.
Why I couldn`t agree more with you my dear fellow. Looks like you know sophistication, modest and subtle grace, poise, etiquette and a classic, enduring sense of style when you see it,harveydents, old man!! The quintessential and universally under-accentuated bastion(and bastioness) of virtue, good manners and fair play in their service to the Crown,Empire Brittanica and Good Folks Everywhere! Steed and [Emma] Peel are NEVER out of style or fashion,IMHO. Steed proves you can be a gentleman`s gentleman and a BAD ASS simulaneously, bowler hat, proper crook neck cane umbrella,et. al. Great UK vintage series! Thanks for posting!
Robert Gift She stated; of all the characters she portrayed, Emma Peel was most like herself. She said week after week of playing the character, she played it most like herself. While she wasn't as militant as Emma with all the fighting, it was most like her...and that's what she felt the fans turned on for. I remember her being asked that question on an old David Frost interview. This was in the 1970s, so many other characters followed....
I well remember the extreme excitement when this show came on each week....the music sets that up beautifully . One's all atwitter from the first note . Thanks for up loading!
The opening and closing theme music is one of the things that made this program work so well. The stories were sort of ridiculous, but it was the music that really made it!
There are CZcams videos on here with music clips in the show that are great too. It brings you back to The Avengers aura and style. Like to listen for a change of pace when working around the house. czcams.com/video/l9qCazg2eLE/video.html czcams.com/video/MCq55SZT-TE/video.html
OMG,this brings back childhood memories of watching this program among others(Benny Hill,The Sixth Sense,The Night Gallery,Ultra Man & The Golddiggers, etc)during wknd visits to my Nana's ,thanks for the smile... RIP Mrs.Peel
Here is just a short list of classic shows of the 60's that NOTHING nowadays can even hope to compare to: Twilight Zone..The Wild,Wild,West.. Outer Limits..I Spy...Get Smart...Rat Patrol...The Rifleman...Bonanza...The Invaders...The F.B.I....The Fugitive...Man From U.N.C.L.E.....Thriller....Lost In Space....Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea....The Munsters...The Addams Family...I Dream Of Jeannie..Bewitched...F Troop..Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and literally hundreds more...The 1960's was a decade of great television programming that we will never, ever see again...Even the cartoons were much better in the '60's than what there is now....
Definitely my super heroes when I was a boy! And this theme music has been so implanted in me that I instantly here it whenever I see their pictures! Awesome!
The ending reminds me of a lady I used to look after. She always watched The Avengers. She passed away a while ago, but I still think about her and this show always reminds me of her.
Adored this show as a pre-teen and still do to this day. So sorry to hear about Mr. Macnee. He along with Diana Rigg gave TV in those days a much needed touch of class and sophistication. Long live The Avengers!
THIS is what the current generation of feminists doesn't get. Emma Peel was a badass who could hold her own against any man, yet still be feminine. Such an amazing woman...she was the total package!
Back in the late 70's CBS picked this up in syndication as the lead-in to the CBS late movie on Friday nights.....LOVED IT and THESE WERE THE BEST CREDITS!
The suave John Steed and the delightful Emma Peel. I saw Nicholas Smith's (RIP) name in the closing credits. He was Mr. Rumbold in "Are You Being Served?"
She was everybody's. She projected and shared herself in so many different roles, but this role represented the mere tip of her accomplishments. She was a stellar performer on the Shakespearean stage and won countless awards and accolades. An ancient Greek play she was in sold out on Broadway. She remains active on Game Of Thrones which will be ending. We'll see her in other endeavors.
Happy memories of Sunday night TV when I was 8 or 9 in the mid-60s. I was a bit young to appreciate all of Mrs Peels’ charms, but she was still a favourite character. RIP Diana Rigg. :(
All the opening and closing sequences were great throughout the various seasons, even the quite different season 1, but this is the version I remember most and remains my favourite.
John Steed and Emma Peel! The classic chemistry! There will NEVER be another show quite like this one!
The opening music for this show is on a par with the first season music from" The Man From U.N.C.L.E."
The opening credits of The Persuaders are of the same caliber: czcams.com/video/9xZUvmH1Sm0/video.html
I like the music from Peter Gunn too. It's as good as the music from this show.
RIP Dame Diana Rigg.
My heart is broken.
Omg she was my childhood crush, the only celebrity passing that I ever shed tears for.
I loved the irreverent unorthodox style of this Series. The Fantasy. No two films were the same or predictable. I just watched almost ALL of the Series here before the CZcams closed them all. How sad we cant look at them anymore. Goodby Diana (with tears)
Oh, no😱!
Rest in Peace Dame Diana Rigg. Great actress, great series and one of the best intros to any TV series in history.
RIP Dianna Rigg..what great chemistry she had with Patrick Macnee in the show..
Yes, they were fabulous! A team made in heaven.
I remember as a child growing up in Los Angeles in about 1965 or so listening to this theme song when this show began. What a powerhouse then and what a powerhouse now.Such a time of innocence. I wish we could go back because this world of today is of turmoil.
That's what you call a theme song. Utterly memorable.
on a par with john barry james bond soundtracks
Absolutely. Incidently I may be an old sentimentalist but I've always liked the music John Barry did for the film Somewhere in Time.
The Persuaders theme, by John Barry again, was great as well.
Terry Eggett, such a great 1960's song. Some of the best music from that decade.
TV Theme Song Hall of Fame
The theme song, especially the first and last 10 seconds, is truly mesmerizing.
The most badass grandma in Westeros, the only woman who managed to make 007 get monogamous... And now she's probably drinking champagne along with Patrick Mcnee. RIP Mrs Diana Rigg :-(
What an iconic opening and ending-- what an iconic show .Patrick Macnee /Diana Rigg perfect together-- and together again now.
Dame Dianna Rigg died today. Mrs. Peel and John Steed are reunited.
RIP to both
Cathy is with them too.
Out of all The Avengers Theme Intros, this one Is the best and beautiful theme song and intro ever with Diana Rigg.
It makes me shake my head in disbelief when you see classy television programs like this compared to the reality TV garbage they are now showing.
I agree with you 1000%, I always loved the Avengers and theme song.
My mother loved that series. But what have we got?
well thats because the world is full of garbage and the people are shit all the decent people are dead
They had plenty of garbage at the time too. Besides, there is pleanty of good stuff today.
I couldn't agree more. I'm now literally incapable of watching normal TV. Countless channels of unadulterated garbage with 10 minutes of adverts every half hour.
...Who actually buys into this latter days s**t?

They got it right with McNee and Rigg. God i just loved this show..The open n close ...just awesome. Well done.
Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg the greatest male/ female duo ever! Love them to this day-- Stay away from diabolical masterminds Patrick and rest in peace...so sad, but happy memories
Loved this show. Watched every week. Never missed an episode. Thanks for posting.
Beautiful. A true Classic used to watch Sunday afternoons. It put you in a perfect mood for the new week ahead 👍
Brilliant. Television had such polished class back then. Thanks for uploading. :)
+Terry Tanktop Britain and England was the PLACE to live and flock to back then. Trust me i was born of a Mum who came here.
Kelly14UK I agree
Terry Tanktop My Favorite!!!
La pareja mas epectacular de todos los tiempos por su Elegancia y Glamour.,desde Chile.
Mr.Macnee a true english gentleman. Rest in peace and jolly good show
One of TV's better theme songs and openings. Always loved this
50 year old 35mm film, the quality putting todays digital footage to shame.
John Steed: the original Kingsman.
Dapper as always.
Amen to that!
I was just thinking that!!!!!!!!!! Since “Kingsmam”, I have never looked at umbrellas the same way. Mr. Steed, of course, had the Mk 1 version of the umbrella.
When I was a kid, I never missed this show!
RIP Patrick aged 93 we have the memories
RIP Patrick Macnee.
"Mrs. Peel--we're needed."
Thanks for uploading this--these represent my favorite of the opening and closing credit sequences for one of the best TV series ever produced by sixties Britain. Elegant Diana Rigg moves like a dancer!
Just herd the very sad news that the great Patrick Macnee has sadly passed away.
A true traditional British gentleman and a superb actor
RIP Mr Macnee
Homer Bojangles He aquired American citizenship too, read his NYT article on him
another great person bites the dust
Hear !!!
AND NOW SIR ROGER MOORE
And a very great and distinctive voice. God bless.
Diana Rigg....Emma Peel, the woman of my life. When i was young, my heart was for her.
I got hooked watching this show when I was a kid every week, the moment I watched the opening and Diana Rigg shot the cork off the champagne bottle.
Rest in Peace Mr Macnee. You gave us so much and will live on forever in celluloid (or atleast in digital)
One of my favorite partnerships ever! Opening still gives me chills :)
Goose bumps and endorphins here. I was just turning thirteen in September of 1966 and this genre of program was my cup of tea and then some.
The opening rapid drum sequence with the bongo flair is pure genius.
I was living in the desert of El Paso, Texas and Fridays approached with the feeling of relief the school week was over and I was excited about being able to stay up to watch the Avengers. The front door was left open and the desert air was cooled off perfectly by 9:00. Those were the days!
"Chills" is the perfect term!
Me too with a smile... Beautiful
The music is so sophisticated and classy. I also had a huge crush on Diana Rigg, but who didn't?
Great show and another one of what I call the coolest theme songs made.
All those little glances... Macnee and Rigg had superb chemistry. And what it cooked up! From the instant that the bottle is deloped, the Avengers was an example of class.
There were several female leads before her but SHE is the only one we recall.
Nope, I remember Honor Blackman 1st.
There was only one female lead before Diana Rigg. That was Honor Blackman. I think there was only one after her - Linda Thorson. Honor Blackman is also known for playing "Pussy Galore" in the Bond films.
There was also Julie Stevens.
Thank you from Italy! We miss such real and classic UK!!
Best tv intro ever.,,?.
One of them, but my favourite theme and ending music is for the original Patrick McGoohan "Prisoner".
And Route 66
Definitely.
Mrs. Peel was my first girlfriend. I was six.
When I was eight, Emma Peel was who I wanted to be when I grew up!
Mrs peel couldn't have been your girl as she was mine!
She was mine too. Didn't have many afterwards. Was heartbroken when she left the series. Linda Thorsden, Yucch.
She was mine to
She set the standard for me by which all subsequent women were measured.
The sexiest woman ever! Emma Peel / Diana Rigg!
+barry smith She was ahead of her time, that's for sure!!
+Dey Long Even now, she still is! A very classy woman!
The character even had a costume designed for her in the series. It was known as a "catsuit". This was later licensed and sold as The Emmapeeler catsuit in various shops. As far as sexiness is concerned, you can keep ya miniskirts, and throw away ya hot pants: catsuits rule... 'nuff said! ;)

Indeed! :) Erm... I hope I don't have to pass you a digital tissue there, do I? ;)
classic theme song, love it

O.G. BigHosMan SHE WAS ACTING!
What was she like in REAL life? That is what matters.
What wonderful musical composition by Laurie Johnson!
Robert Gift

These were the best of all the opening credits used during the show. And what a brilliant show it was.
Unbeatable. The music, the visuals and the incomparable Mrs Peel.
An idol of my childhood days. Rest in peace, dear Patrick MacNee - and thank you for being Mr. John Steed.
OMG,this brings back childhood memories of watching this program among others(Benny Hill,The Sixth Sense,The Night Gallery,Ultra Man & The Golddiggers, etc)during wknd visits to my Nana's ,thanks for the smile... RIP Mrs.Peel
Godspeed Diana. Thank you for entertaining us. Rest in Peace.

I wish I could give you more than 1 thumbs up. You're Right!
Mod squad
Brilliant program and cast!!
One of my favorite tv shows as a kid. Great theme music also. I need a time machine!
Diana Rigg is the reason I have a thing for beautiful women who can kick my butt.
They will never top this theme. I tingled when I was 3 years old and I still do. Emma peel just makes me feel that way.
loved watching them wish they would come back on tv
R.I.P. Miss Rigg. Thank you for giving us years of incredible performances. We will miss you dearly ma'am!
i never missed an episode
Definitely my super heroes when I was a boy! And this theme music has been so implanted in me that I instantly here it whenever I see their pictures! Awesome!
RIP, Mr. Macnee...you were a class act.
When TV had class and style
The ending reminds me of a lady I used to look after. She always watched The Avengers. She passed away a while ago, but I still think about her and this show always reminds me of her.
Rest in Peace Mr Steed!!! You will be missed, and thanks for all the memories!
Adored this show as a pre-teen and still do to this day. So sorry to hear about Mr. Macnee. He along with Diana Rigg gave TV in those days a much needed touch of class and sophistication. Long live The Avengers!
Diana may not be hot as she was before, but even as Olenna Tyrell she's still got so much charisma.
I said when I was a kid if I grow up to be that bad ass, I have fulfilled my life's journey.
We need a show like this today ! Return class to tv.
She is/was wonderful!
back in the day showing us how it's done Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg
So well done.
THIS is what the current generation of feminists doesn't get. Emma Peel was a badass who could hold her own against any man, yet still be feminine. Such an amazing woman...she was the total package!
I always thought (when I watched the Avengers in 1967) that the opening and closing sequences were the coolest things on TV!!
I remember watching this show an looking forward to those mornings it was shown.
Diana Rigg certainly had the "M" appeal.
The music was amazing. Full orchestra, powerful.
My dad and I never missed this show.
...and damn good drumming on the soundtrack too.
I was in love with Diana Rigg.
I was too at the age of 9!!! In 1967
Oh, so YOU were the one !
Back off! She was mine!
We all loved her, and anyway I saw her first - so there!
GREAT THEME SONG BY LAURIE JOHNSON WHO I NEVER HEARD OF BEFORE
Laurie Johnson was a genius
loved her Mod clothing style!
Diana Rigg was insanely beautiful
Back in the winter of 1967/1968 my mom and I used watch the Avengers every Friday night. What grand entertainment.
Happy memories of Sunday night TV when I was 8 or 9 in the mid-60s. I was a bit young to appreciate all of Mrs Peels’ charms, but she was still a favourite character. RIP Diana Rigg. :(
that's for sure, this show was awesome, and probably one of the greatest show opens i've ever seen!
My very favorite show as a 6 year old kid!!💕
All the opening and closing sequences were great throughout the various seasons, even the quite different season 1, but this is the version I remember most and remains my favourite.
The best television series :)
The classic Avengers titles. Never been bettered.
RIP Brian Clemens. This was what Saturday evenings were about in the 1960's :)
I believe it was Brian who cast Diana Rigg as Emma Peel. Genius! ♥
O for the good old days of television. Still as good now as it was back then!
i love this melody...
Such a saucy exchange of glances, at the start. Ooh matron!☺
I love the fact that the orginal titles were so unique, Not going to down the pop path. Just loooooooooooooooooooove this stuff
Classic theme tune still loved to this day

Best television show in America in the 60's.
