I remember Daniil Medvedev playing the US Open. Being constantly booed, a crowd of thousands against him. He challenged a call and the booing got ridiculous. After every play he won the crowd antagonized him. At some point he called the crowd to do more noise, like if all that booing was turning into cheers inside his heart. He went to win that game and he won me over. I am a big fan and I will cheer for him and hope he finds that boy inside of him again.

I’m a big fan of Medvedev: In my view, he’s a genius on court with heart an limitless talent, but he’s also unbelievably sensitive and authentic. These two traits while admirable in theory, do not necessarily endear him to a certain type of fan that permeates modern sport and tennis in particular.
While most athletes have sport specific intelligence, .I believe that Medvedev, at only 25, is orders of magnitude above in general intelligence. This, I believe provides him a field of vision wherein he sees, feels and analyzes, and is affected by too much.
But being a lifelong tennis player and fan, he is, at least for the time being, my favorite ATP pro (Ash Barty is my favorite WTA…).

Even I felt that that crowd was too biased. Like I think in the third set when he fell down trying to hit the ball and lost the point the crowd went on a loud roar.

One of the best, genuine, honest interview of a sport star I have seen. Huge respect for you Daniil. Next time I am in Moscow, how about a ping pong match?

    Dear Daniil,
you fought great. I had the impression that you handled the mood against you well and you were still able to concentrate on your game. That is a great mental achievement. I was also for Nadal in this final, because well, it's Nadal and I love him. But that doesn't diminish my sympathy for you as a person and as a player. Keep going and one day the fans will rightly cheer for you:)
