  • Anne Edyvean (Head of BBC Writersroom) is interviewed by Louise Mountain (Director of Fiction Strategy and Development for BBC Worldwide) in July 2015.
    Anne describes the purpose of BBC Writersroom: "The indispensable development engine of fiction in the BBC".
    Anne explains how important it is for BBC Writersroom to work in partnership with BBC production to address specific needs, and to offer tangible outcomes for writers.
    She explains some of the work that BBC Writersroom does including our open Script Room submission system, writer development residential workshops, writer residencies, BBC Continuing Drama writer shadow schemes and acting as a 'lab' for new forms of storytelling.

    I think it's great the BBC encourages new writers. What I find frustrating is that all British expats are excluded. So not really an "open door" policy. You could literally have just got off the boat at Dover and not speak a word of English and yet be eligible to submit to the Writers Room competitions and submission windows. But the Brits who grew up in the UK yet work abroad are left out in the cold. You let the Irish in; couldn't you at least extend it to writers with British nationality?
