Motorcycling has a lot to do with emotions, and not always about head over heart. Your R1 decision may simply be about how emotions make us go back to our ex's! Once an R1....maybe always an R1.
Whatever be the case, you can't go wrong with a bike of this caliber! A big congratulations, and great to see you doing your own brand new bike ownership video for a change!

You got it spot on! There are so many things around motorcycles.
Head? Heart? Courage? Optimism? Caliber of the bike?
Caliber of the rider? Thanks for your comment.

First and foremost, I thank you for creating and sharing this video with us.
After 35 years of owning and riding multiple sport bikes and cruisers, I ended up finding myself in the same scenario as you did. After few hours of homework, I purchased my 2023 R1 (blue, of course) back in June. All the points that you have made in this video resonates with me, due to the fact of my age 52 and years of experience.
I chose the R1 for the same exact reasons. Congrats on your new R1.
Be safe and thanks for the awesome video…. Truly validated the sentiment and the passion that I have for sport bikes. 👍🏻👍🏻

Exactly. Having owned 7 R1's over theyears (98, 00, 01, 02, 07, 16, 16 R1M) plus an FZR-400, FZR-1000 and a YZF-750SP I can honestly say nothing else brings you closer to feeling like Rossi than the '15 - present R1/R1M. With that MotoGP sound and electronics plus reliability, you just can't beat it !

Same as you but, I think ‘15+ became very track focused and lost a lot of road appeal. I preferred the Big Bang for comfort and could happily daily it. My R1M could empty the battery on a cold morning and the ride height was just silly.

Nice video! Without a doubt, the R1 is such an iconic machine. I purchased an all black 2023 R1 last year to chase my dreams and to live life to the fullest. I’m 52 and have zero regrets. The performance and sound (full akrapovic exhaust installed) of the bike is simply exhilarating and I can’t see myself on anything else.

For me R1 first,ZX14R second. I like extremes in whatever class we're talking about. They are both sick fast. I like a nimble quick bike for a short 50 mile x2,5 day a week commute. I like the comfortable heavier ZX14R bike for much longer sport touring. There's a lot of dangerously foggy people on the road today and the R1 really responds to rider input well.👍👏👏👏

I own a 2023 R1. I have owed many Japanese sport bike, going back to the 80’s. Of all of them, this is one of the best I have driven. With the cross plane crank, you can cruse with comfort, but when you want to get on it, any gear and it’s a bullet.

I had a 2012 R1 and used to commute on it to work. With the extra weight of the bike and the cross plane engine being smooth as glass above ~6k rpm, and the bike putting out a ton of heat, it was surprisingly a phenomenal commuter bike.
I have a 2022 CBR1000RR and while I do love it, the lightness and the vibrations from the engine do make it riding it a little more tiring than the R1. The R1 would hold itself in place in corners, the CBR definitely feels a lot more “loose” in comparison.
There are definitely things I like about the CBR more than the R1. It’s amazing how different every bike is.

I have street ridden my 05, 180hp R1 for the past six years and 20k miles. It’s pure; reliable, no abs, no traction control and sounds wonderful. I even sold my 2016 GSXR 1000 because I wasn’t riding it. I have the itch for a new R1, but at 5’7” it seems to sit high. Finding a dealer willing to let me ride one is has been fruitless. Most have no allotments or are greedy with aftermarket exhaust and other accessories that drive the prices to well over $21k. I’ll be 70 in June and I’m not about to stop riding. I have been to several major cities and the incompetent stories they tell are disheartening; that is if you can get anyone to talk to you. No wonder motorcycle sales are down. They all seem to want to sell side-by-sides.

I really like the way you talk about motorcycles. You are very talented with the perfect tone and inflection in your voice. This is a spectacular explanation of the Yamaha R1 you give here and congratulations as you say you have purchased this R1. In your video you asked for comments about this decision versus purchasing the HONDA CBR1000RR which you've also given a spectacular video explanation of the 2022 Honda CBR1000RR. My opinion is I think the 2022 HONDA CBR1000RR is the better purchase over the 2022 YAMAHA R1 for a few reasons such as: 1) The Honda is a much better looking motorcycle. The Red white and Blue paint scheme is delicious to look at and then ad in those gold colored front forks and the HONDA is true eye candy to look at making it mouth watering makes me drool over it's good looks, a much better paint scheme than the boring all blue paint scheme on the Yamaha. The Honda is also a full 14 pounds lighter in curb weight than the Yamaha weighing in at only 434 with a full tank of gas versus 448 pounds of the heavier Yamaha. The Honda also has a more sophisticated and better front and rear suspension over the Yamaha too. The sound of the Honda engine is much more exciting to listen to than the boring sounding Yamaha R1 engine sound. Yamaha's R1 engine sound sounds like a badly tuned V-twin engine. While the R1 has slightly more horse power of just 9 more horsepower Yamaha 198hp vs Honda 189hp the 2022 HONDA CBR1000RR is $2,000 cheaper than the 2022 Yamaha R1. So for me in my opinion the 2022 HONDA CBR1000RR would be the better purchase in my opinion over the 2022 Yamaha R1.

As a Yamaha Fan Boy, this is the best super bike out there that the Japanese make. However, Yamaha REALLY needs to update this bike rather than just releasing new color ways that look similar each year. The Updated XSR 900, MT10/SP, and R7 have a Brembo Master Cylinder, why the R1 and the R1M doesn't have it yet is mind boggling. I want an R1 so much but compared to it's competition, the one thing it lacks is keeping with the times, Yamaha is the ONLY Japanese manufacture that doesn't put Brembo's on their Premium Super bikes (although whose to say they won't in 2025 after seeing the 2024 MT09 SP equipped with Brembo's Stylema Calipers and Master Cylinder but we'll have to see) Still would rather pick the R1/R1M over Honda, Kawasaki or Suzuki
