- Filling a sketchbook can be hard, but thankfully there are fun activities that you can do without putting too much pressure on yourself. I delved into the world of Pinterest, searched for some of the best, most useful hacks I could find... and am trying those sketchbook hacks in this video! I have a lot of other ideas on my Pinterest board, so let me know if you want to see a part two!
Also, credits to my girl Chloe Rose Art, because we all know she is the QUEEN of Pinterest hacks. Holllla~

This reminds me a lot of a make your own 'Wreck this Journal'
Ohhh that would be so cool!
The last one actually was a Wreck This Journal.
LOL I sniff random objects too! The leaf prints look so cool. 🍁
Haha, yes! Someone else does it. I pretty much have to sniff my towel as I'm pulling it out of the cupboard after a shower! lol
Same
i thought i was the only one
Yes
I like it
for the string one you have to put it on all the string not just the tip xD
yes and you can use cheap watercolor or something like this too and don't have to waste ink ^^
Ciri Smith
Or paint xs x3
and I think you have to put a little pressure on the top of the piece (like the outside of the book) it makes tension as you pull the string out
Om yn
Yes! ;)
Paigey Exactly that’s what I was gonna say
A little off topic tip, if you are feeling uninspired, unhappy with your art, or just in art block, find a really old drawing and redraw it. That'll give you a nice ol' confidence boost!
It makes me feel worse TvT
hey this acually works
Lauren Shelton I did that on the first page on my third sketchbook.
Okay, but unicorn cheese.
The string pull is a technique from the fluid art pouring community, and i've done it a few times! The trick is definitely to use thin, long string and definitely do a lot of swoops! Another thing that gives cool effects is using a ball chain!
Definitely learned my lesson from that one. Thanks for the helpful comment. I want to try that one again. :)
@@MiraByler Yeah!! I like helping! :D
I used dental floss because I couldn't find thread....it totally worked but yeah no dont recommend unless you want it sticking to your hands :') I am SO GLAD you cut out that horrible noise of the needle going through the paper GAHAHADHG NOPE also your sweater is so cute I WANT ITTT
That's so smart!! I regretted it the moment I saw the yarn floating in my ink, hahaha. And thanks! I think it's from Charlotte Russe!
I've done it with acrylic paint and that was much less messy.
Yarn would have still worked BUT Bad idea using ink its too thin you should try again with acrylic paint thats the #1 successful way :D
WOW ! HOW creative! I loved this sewing idea!
Hi @@MiraByler
That first hack 🤣 I just glue an envelope to mine but GO ALL OUT
I cannot be-leaf it hehe 🍁
Hahahaha
Brilliant
I loved the pocket one because it doesn’t take up much space in your sketch book if you want to put something in it. Thank you for showing me that. 😁
11:04 - 11:12..... Felt even more connected to you & your artistic left-handed plights. It looks terrific - smudges and all. We lefties are blessed, dontcha think😂
Unicorn Cheese!!!!!! I loved the stitched in pocket, that was such a great idea! I love watching these ideas for different art forms or creative hacks, they're so fun! Loved the video!
The 'write carelessly now' part is from the 'wreck this journal' journal
The leaves are cool because then you can incorporate them into a drawing. Like having an animal peeking out behind them or something. The pocket is a cool idea as well. I can't even tell you how many times I wished I had pockets in my sketchbook. So gonna try this. I have something I've been doing in my sketchbooks. It's not exactly a hack. But I know a lot of people struggle to fill their sketchbooks. I always draw something on the first page that encourages me to finish. Like a character shouting "you can do it"....or something. So whenever I get burnt out I can always look back to the front and get a little boost. :)
That is SUCH A GOOD IDEA!!! I need to remember this for my next one. 💜☺️ thanks for sharing!
@@MiraByler :)
I did the string pull with my granddaughter and we used chain (from ceiling fan pull) and thinned acrylics. It turned out pretty cool 💖
The leaf art looks better if you dehydrate it for a couple of weeks, by pressing it in between two books or heavy flat objects like a block of wood. That way theres more transfer of detail and less moisture in the leaf to suck up the ink.
My favorite one was the last one with the sketch and thoughts. My only problem with it is that I can't seem to keep up with writing journals. But I might give it a try. Thanks for the ideas and testing them out for us.
Also
Unicorn cheese lol
for the thread hack
you should try thinner thread like the one used for sewing and it will definitely work , i tried it and it was nice
Omg! I’ve been watching your videos for awhile but these are some oldies I haven’t seen before, so fun! Love following you
Unicorn cheese ;) I loved the last one, but I'm a writer not an artist so that's the only hack in my wheelhouse :( haha
Lesley Vaught in a way, Writing is art!
3:33 - 3:35 was PURE MIRANDA. Always be you, Miranda, cause you are awesome!!! 🤣😂🤣
Your unicorn cheese is the best. I hope that made you smile, your videos always make me smile.
Definitely made me smile! I always look forward to all your comments. Thank you for being amazing. :)
I feel like we'd be really good friends! You seem like just a genuinely kind person!💖
I think the first leaf you did was really interesting. No need to be disappointed. keep printing! They don't always print from edge to edge of the leaf anyway.
Dear mira the black leaf is beautiful
The write carelessly thing actually is a page from a wreck this journal
my favorite was the last one. when I draw or doodle it usually comes out as to how I felt that day. And also my writing matches my art most of the time.
I do like the ink pulled yarn. I see silhouettes of people!
THE FIRST TWO LEAVES GIVES A NOICE RAINDROP EFFECT
sorry but being English it's got to be Shetland pony cheddar. All the time you were painting the leaves i was saying "you're doing the wrong side Mira". You obviously finally heard me. Gonna try that leaf one in my own art book, vein side down.
the one with the leafs works more with the pressed, dried leafs from fall. and I remember that I did that one when I was a child. :)
I loved the way the leaves and the string came out. They are basically found object printing and some of the fun of that is the unpredictable results. I think they'd both make great backgrounds for a drawing.
I really liked the one with the string because it almost looked like you had some tall witches after you got finished and I think you could do something cool with that. Also liked the one with the leaves because leaves are beautiful and it’s playful like grades school. Thanks for this video.
The last hack was my favorite- I'll definitely be using that one since I also love writing, not sure why I never thought of doing that lol
Also, unicorn cheese 👌
The unicorn cheese is funny. Loved the sketch with adjacent page of random thoughts. It seems liberating. Brought back memories of my attempts of writing concrete poetry in the shapes of animals. So even if one may not feel as artistically inclined, one could still doodle with random thoughts jotted down in the shapes of trees, plants, whatever. Great inspiration, thanks! Also the pink gouache on the back of the leaf was gorgeous.
Whoa, writing poetry in the shapes of animals sounds so pleasing!! And thank you!
I've always wanted to try the string hack because it makes cool designs. It's nice to see artist use different materials with the same hack because that is what art is about, experimenting.
I really like the pocket one best so useful for little prints and notes I am collecting inspiration for a little book I can look in to get help and ideas from plus I have been looking through books on colour these videos you make are really cool and even if I don't try the things I see I usually get inspired by them
I loved this video. The hack I liked was the one where you painted on the leaves. I've done that one in school.
I like The leaf ones , make a video of you painting your bubblebeas on pop sockets
If I ever go on Pinterest, I get discouraged because I know I would never be able to match up to what they're doing. But I love these types of videos because it shows they don't always turn out
I really like the leaf idea and the pocket thing too but I already add pockets to my books 😊 since it's lunch time I'm thinking grilled unicorn cheese sandwich? Haha and lastly I got such a giggle from your sketch, a very simple form of a girl but she has amazing hair hahaha love it! Can't wait to see what other hacks you come up with. I love Cloe's hacks too🤗
4:06 OMG this is SOOOO satysifiying (sorry for my bad spelling)
Unicorn cheese 😂 I’ve been leaf printing for years using acrylic paints. Ink sounds interesting.
With leaf printing try using printers in and apply the ink with a brayer. Also splotch multiple colors of acrylic paint and small paint roller works too.
Unicorn cheese!!!!!! My favorite hack was the pocket. I have a bit of an obsession with turning things into containers. Or adding containers to other things. So this is perfect. I bet I end up adding little pockets to all kinds of things, including my sketchbook. Just imagine the possibilities! 😄😄😄 Thanks for the video!!
Yes!!! Tiny containers are so cute. Haha!!
I love your videos so much that inspire me to fill my sketchbook
I think what you can do with the string one is; use watercolors instead of ink, have two strings instead of three, use thinner string, don't use too much ink/paint, place the strings in more complex positions, pull the strings out a little more quickly but still carefully.
Also idrk if it's anything about your paper but it works really well with regular printer paper. You can just fold an A4 in half.
Super cute idea! It'd be awesome to see more in the future, and I might have to rethink some of those sketchbook hacks I've scrolled past lol
I think you could enhance the inky string pulling page into something magical😊
I love sitting down to a Mira Butler video
**Bira
**Byler (we got there in the end 😂)
LOL
The string hack worked really well for me 😍❤ mine looks absolutely beautiful ❤
I'm binge watching your vids while I have no school. Getting really inspired though. Oh yeah, love your sweater! Omg. You acually replied. Thank you so much! That has never happened to me before!
Thanks!!
Just to tell you for the leaf printing thing you’re supposed to use acrylic paint and it sticks on more and you mostly need to use green leaves because they’re more textured and they hold the paint more and you’re also supposed to use the backside that has more texture and has the veins
Yes I love it
yarn still will work if you put it in ink or acrylic paint and make most of the yarn have paint or ink on it (use a paint brush, toothpick, pencil to move the string around in it and get it covered) than put the string in the book and pull it out it will work really well i use it for baclgrounds for charecters or just something pretty to look at
The red looks like a storybook witch and the yellow her broom...I call that a topical win 😁 Unicorn cheese 🦄
Tried the string pull and it worked, saved pages to use in art journaling! Never thought that Pinterest would steer us wrong!
7:51 like girl what are u talking about that leaf look's so cool I love it!!!!!!
very fun and you and chloe should do some kind of competing pintrist hacks or other silly ideas videos who can get the crazy hack to work best or similar ideas. Thanks for the video your always a joy to watch!
Thanks! I always love your comments! ☺️
Red leaf is beautiful ♡
The chain pulling definitly works because I’ve done it a thousand times and my design is always soo pretty and cool
You are so funny and thanks for getting rid of the horrible noise :)😋😉😀🙂
Unicorn cheese!!! Loved the sketch with the writing on the other side. You’re so adorable. I’ve just started binge watching you a few days ago. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of you.
You need to use cotton string. That acrylic yarn isn't pliable or absorbent enough. Love this video! Going to try all the hacks!!!!
We did the leave prints in elementary school with tempra paint I'm guessing because the teacher used the paint in the big bottles with kid size paint brushes. We'd go outside and look for big leaves. Had so much fun looking for leaves and painting them before Once saw a unicorn with cheese. Lol.
Unicorn Cheese 💗 I think my favorite hack that you tried was stitching the paper onto the back. I’ve done that in Scrapbooking and even mixed media art but I completely forgot about it. I’ve been wanting to decorate my art journal and this really inspired me. Thanks Mira!!
What a good idea to do that in scrapbooking! Thank you too!
Some interesting hacks. And who wouldn't want unicorn cheese! Xx
For a pocket I usually duct tape tape envelopes to the page. I like using the duct tape with patterns so it looks cute.
That’s a cute idea!
Is just me or her art style is (awesome) 😍😍😍💜
I AGREE and you are so INSPIRING
You make me laugh every time I watch your videos. I love your personality.
UNICORN CHEESE 🧀 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I have to say Chloe is the sweetest but both of you are so funny 😂 love all the hacks but the one i’m trying is the thoughts 💭 and black ink it looked super awesome. 💋💋💋
The ink string art a actually worked lol. When I do that myself I don't believe I can make it. But when I opened my sketchbook, BOOM It was so cool.
I did the string thing but I did it with paint instead of ink and it turned out really good
The string art works really well with acrylic paint, and when I did it, I didn’t put any pressure on the page when I pulled it off though. I also just pulled it straight down.
(Btw the “write carelessly now” page is from a “wreck this journal” you should get one! You’d love it)
I liked the last sketchbook hack.
Haa haa haa Unicorn cheese!!!! Keep these coming, they are fun to watch.
Unicorn 🦄 cheese 🧀 . I like the sketchbook pocket
The last one was my favorite. I’ve always wanted to start a journal where I doodle and write, and that last on really inspired me to do it!
I hope you do! It was really therapeutic!
I think the leav prints look cool
You freakin out about the cute plant pocket is the cutest thing omg!
Unicorn cheese
Valerie aka Artalacarte actually did a video on the different kinds of string that would work for the string pulling art :D
Gah you're too darn cute doing all these hacks. Seeing you get excited over the sketchbook pocket made my day.
I love your jumper too!
When I was a kid, we dropped the paint on the paper folded the paper over and pulled the string across and in between the pages. Not as messy.
I like your leaf ones!I think they look kinda cool.
Yes more please
Unicorn cheese 🦄🧀 I've never tried a Pinterest hack, but they always look really nice 👌 I'm pretty sure I'd fail at them though...but you did a good job! 😁❤️
I totally agree I have tried a few projects that look amazing on Pinterest and don’t turn out so good in reality
I wonder how many times they had to make it before putting it on Pinterest. haha
LOL
🦄 🧀 baby.
I'm recovering from an operation and I'm going to def do the leaf thing in my sketchbook. It looks so cool xxx
You are so precious and adorable, I've watched a few videos and I couldn't be happier to find your channel!!
🦄 🧀 I loved the pocket and leaves the most I think! Thanks for the ideas and great video!
I really liked the last one. Unicorn cheese!
I'm just here for the unicorn cheese 😊
3.33 I don't know why I find it so funny😂
I'm not really into Pinterest much but I did like the last hack. It could be used for developing characters for either writing or for illustration. Unicorn cheese is my favorite. Lol
That’s a good idea!
The yarn didn’t work not because of the width of the string, but because you should’ve dipped the whole string in the ink container (when pulling it out squeeze it a bit to get some excess ink off) then place it on the paper and just pull straight down, not in a bunch of directions
These are neat ideas. Thank you 😊
I love these kind of videos!
You’re so talented!! Keep up the good work!!
Thank you Maggie!
Unicorn cheese! I really like the leaf hack. I'm gonna have to try it! I wonder if the ink would have worked better on the back of the leaf. Hm... I'll report back when I find out!
I use unicorn cheese. Love your channel. So many ideas. 🙂💎
