Every so often you sit on a townsquare or a beach at night in Italy and someone starts to sing this song and everyone joins in. I have witnessed such magi moments several times ☺ no one beats Lara Fabian's version though

Italian is, aling French, her native language, so she doesn't need to think when she speaks Italian and because she's fluent in English, she just doesn't need to think much. Being a native bilingual person her brain is way more plasticity and English is no secret to her!

Caruso, is an italian song, written, composed and performed in 1986 by Lucio Dalla as a tribute to Enrico Caruso, the most famous tenor of his time (late 19th / early 20th century). He was the first global singing superstar.
The story is about the last days of Enrico Caruso, he knows he is dying, and he is remembering all his career on stage and telling his much younger wife how much he loves her.
It has very quickly become a classic of italia music and the biggest names have covered it (Julio Iglesias, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, …. and of course Luciano Pavarotti). Even Metallica covered it
But for many, Lara's version from the concert From Lara With Love 2000 czcams.com/video/BP2KnLemT78/video.html is the best ever, as she was able, with her unique ability to convey the emotions of a song, to reveal the real sad story written by Lucio Dalla.
I was told that Lucio Dalla himself, after hearing this performance, said that she made it her song and this is the best version he has heard from it.
For Lara, this song is really important as this is a kind of anthem for Italy, and she is so much connected to this country. She spent the first few years of her life there with her sicilian mother and grandma. Italian is her first native language. Her husband is also sicilian. She also has been living there for the past few months since the end of 2022.

She often say to youg singner: more that know the technic more you can let it go when it's time to perfome. She worked and still does, her lyric technic, so when she is on stage she is free and she trust her body and her emotion that they will bring out the best out of her. This is my favorite , 2nd is from 2010 Las Vegas, she has a beautiful red dress. And 3rd is from 2022 on the Live CD that i bought.
She has amazing Spanish songs aswell, i bought a pretty expensive oop 2nd version of her first English album in the Spanish edition. 5 great bonus tracks in Spanish on it, incl Quédate from Lara with love 👌.

What a powerhouse!
The most beautiful song ever. It's about a sick man about to die and hi's thoughts at point. In Sorrento, a beautiful place in from of the sea south Italy. Remembering his life, watching the sea and feeling the pain of be bonded to this woman but being at the end of his life. It's just a masterpiece not many people know. Glad you enjoyed :)

New subscriber. Discovered your channel for Home Free and was thrilled to also see Lara Fabian reactions. First discovered her back in the VCR days when I recorded some international music show (from perhaps Switzerland?) of her performance of 'Adagio.' Loved her ever since. Literally wore out the tape rewinding/rewatching. Regardless as to which of her songs, they are beyond amazing and always bring tears. First time hearing her 'Caruso' it didn't immediately grab like some others but she definitely works her magic here. She has such a haunting quality, her tunes play over and over in my head.
In my next life, want to be a polyglot. All those languages, moving seamlessly between them. Fascinating.

I remember the first time I heard Caruso. It was on a talent show in Norway where people from other countries could participate (90’s). It was a 13 year old Italian boy who sang it. Me and my boyfriend was hypnotised by how beautiful the song was, but we didn’t catch the name of the song. This was before google lol
I spent quite some time trying to find out which song it was but with no luck. I already loved Lara when she did this cover, I was so happy to finally find it, and it was by one of my favourite artists😍😍
