I mean there were definitely cheesy parts and the situations that they found themselves in seemed forced at times but that’s to be expected of any period drama and I think if they didn’t have chemistry, I would have cringed my way through it but their chemistry is what really made this season work for me.

Jonathan Bailey freaking ATE it UP with playing Anthony Bridgerton. He’s such an excellent actor, and their chemistry was SO much for me to handle, even with the lesser amount of Kate and Anthony we got. He led this season very well. @@audacity9740, she finds out this moment that his father died like this. Oh... and three women see them :) . It is worth reading the scene. I will leave it for you, hoping you don't mind. "Whatever trance he was in suddenly snapped, and he leaped forward, roughly grabbing one of her shoulders with one hand while his other grappled with the bodice of her gown, pulling it down to better expose her wound.
      “My lord!” Kate shrieked. “Stop!”
He said nothing, but his breath was ragged and fast as he pinned her against the back of the bench, still holding her dress down, not low enough to expose her, but certainly lower than decency allowed.
“Anthony!” she tried, hoping that the use of his given name might get his attention. She didn’t know this man; he wasn’t the one who had sat at her side just two minutes earlier. He was crazed, frantic, and completely heedless of her protestations.
“Will you shut up?” he hissed, never once looking up at her. His eyes were focused on the red, swollen circle of flesh on her chest, and with trembling hands he plucked the stinger from her skin.
“Anthony, I’m fine!” she insisted. “You must-”
She gasped. He’d moved one of his hands slightly as he used the other to yank a handkerchief from his pocket, and it now rather indelicately cupped her entire breast.
“Anthony, what are you doing?” She grabbed at his hand, trying to remove it from her person, but his strength was beyond her.
He pinned her even more firmly against the back of the bench, his hand nearly pressing her breast flat. “Be still!” he barked, and then he took the handkerchief and began to press against the swollen sting.
“What are you doing?” she asked, still trying to scoot away.
He didn’t look up. “Expressing the venom.”
      “Is there venom?”
“There must be,” he muttered. “There has to be. Something is killing you.”
Her mouth fell open. “Something is killing me? Are you mad? Nothing is killing me. It’s a bee sting.”
But he ignored her, too focused on his self-appointed task of treating her wound.
“Anthony,” she said in a placating voice, trying to reason with him. “I appreciate your concern, but I’ve been stung by bees at least a half dozen times, and I-”
“He’d been stung before, too,” he interrupted.
Something about his voice sent a shiver down her spine. “Who?” she whispered.
He pressed more firmly against the raised hive, dabbing the handkerchief against the clear liquid that oozed out. “My father,” he said flatly, “and it killed him.”
She couldn’t quite believe it. “A bee?”
“Yes, a bee,” he snapped. “Haven’t you been listening?”
“Anthony, a little bee cannot kill a man.”
He actually paused in his ministrations for a brief second to glance up at her. His eyes were hard, haunted. “I assure you that it can,” he bit off.
Kate couldn’t quite believe that his words were true, but she also didn’t think he was lying, and so she held still for a moment, recognizing that he needed to treat her bee sting far more than she needed to scoot away from his attentions.
“It’s still swollen,” he muttered, pressing harder with the handkerchief. “I don’t think I got it all out.”
“I’m sure I’ll be fine,” she said gently, her ire with him turning into an almost maternal concern. His brow was wrinkled with concentration, and his movements still carried an air of frantic energy. He was petrified, she realized, scared that she would drop dead right there on the garden bench, felled by a tiny little bee.
It seemed unfathomable, and yet it was true.
He shook his head. “It’s not good enough,” he said hoarsely. “I have to get it all out.”
      “Anthony, I-What are you doing?”
He’d tipped her chin back and his head was closing the distance between them, almost as if he meant to kiss her.
“I’m going to have to suck the venom out,” he said grimly. “Just hold still.”
“Anthony!” she shrieked. “You can’t-” She gasped, completely unable to finish her sentence once she felt his lips settling on her skin, applying a gentle, yet inexorable pressure, pulling her into his mouth. Kate didn’t know how to respond, didn’t know whether to push him away or pull him toward her.
But in the end she just froze. Because when she lifted her head and looked over his shoulder, she saw a group of three women staring at them with equal expressions of shock.
      Mary.
      Lady Bridgerton.
And Mrs. Featherington, arguably the ton’s biggest gossip.
And Kate knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that her life would never be the same.

I disagree, but it’s about personal perception. The chemistry was between Anthony and Kate was okay in parts and seemed off in others. The Duke and Daphne ‘s passion was palpable pretty much throughout. Their kissing scenes this season looked like ….and 1 and 2 and 3…by the number, not organic at all. Anthony had much more passion in the scenes with Siena last season. I did enjoy the Eloise potential love interest, and Eloise & Penelope drama regarding Lady Whistledown. Mr. Bailey here handsdown is one of the best romantic leads I've seen so far on screen! Anthony's season was pure Regency GOLD! Simone and Jonathan have fierce, intense chemistry, I literally felt the steam coming off the screen! I love the slow pace. Though the book shall remain special to me, this screen adaptation is one of the few I actually thought exceeded the novel's expectations. I loved the changes they did in the plot, somehow it felt more intense, accurate and fit to Anthony's story.
The sexual tension throughout was far better than sex scenes, and I'm glad they didn't put any unnecessary sex either just for the sake of spicing things up. Somehow their subtle gestures, stares of longing, his obsession with her scent, soft touches, faltering breaths and unhinged, breathless vexing of each other felt far more intimate and passionate. They built up their relationship from scratch and didn't rush it so in the end it was more fulfilling. We saw how Anthony changes from S01 to S02 with the arrival of Kate.
My only wish is Bailey keep playing leads as such, he suits this genre so well. Obviously he will be doing other projects as well, but to know him as one of the few gay actors whose roles aren't defined at all by their sexuality I admire his dedication, versitality and professionalism as an actor. He actually inspires other artist too in his community to prove their talent and not be subjected to represent just one aspect of thier lives in thier content. Bailey, Luke Evans, Matt Bomer are some who prove such stereotypes wrong and keep breaking us ladies hearts. Win for the Men I must say!

I haven’t read the books so I went into season 1 with no expectations. You can’t be let down when you go in without expectations, but people have been hyping up the season 2 couple, and frankly they just didn’t do it for me. The passion seemed contrived where it seemed much more natural with Siena last season. And if Colin and Penelope are the couple for Season 4, I will skip it because I don’t see them doing it for me either. I first fell in love with the Duke of Hastings on the screen ( who can blame me ) and then fell in love with many of the characters including Lady Danbury ( a force to be reckoned with), Daphne ( beautiful porcelain doll, but far from fragile) , Anthony ( who is also quite the looker), and the series. It was great to see many of those characters back. I love the character of Kate, she was intelligent, outspoken, competitive, and fiercely protective. Her sister was played a little too mousey and agreeable for me. I like that Lady Fettherington outsmarted her late husband’s scheming cousin. I enjoyed Eloise and her interactions with Theo, and that she uncovered Penelope’s secret at the end.; I was shocked and disappointed that Penelope outed Eloise.

Having read the book more than once, I hate how the series destroyed the sisters' relationship. But watching Jonathan Bailey's excellent acting made up for it. I could let go of the story that was written - which had more depth & interest & conflict - because his acting was beyond engaging. I thought I was the only one. I kept pausing the first season bc it wasn't that great. It barely came off like a romance to me, and the constant 30sec sex scenes wasn't needed. It as as if the scenes weren't there because they loved each other, but bc of the plot needed it. It wasn't sexy or sensual at all, and at no time did I feel like he was 'obsessed' with her. But this season... their chemistry was off the hook. They took their time building up that addiction and love, where it was all that consumed them. Just them staring at each other was sexy. This season was way better than the first. This is how you do a romance series.

    • @np2616
      @np2616 Před 2 lety +11

I finished S1 in instalments. I am all for sex but that was too much for me. It felt like all their emotions are connected to lust and I could genuinely not see any real romance. S2 on the other hand is a way mature take on love. People calling it boring and slow should really look up what a slowburn actually is and not every love story follows the same route. Kate and Anthony are both well rounded and mature characters so obviously their stories would be different from Daphne, who was obsessed with marriage and kids and Duke, who was way too stubborn to let go of that stupid vow.

You smashed it Jonathan B- absolutely outstanding performance! Having not read the books, couldn't stand Anthony in season 1, but from episode 3, I was hooked! It's one of the best Mr Darcy type turnarounds that I've seen in a while. Whilst I loved Daphne and Simon and thought I'd miss their characters together dearly and nothing could replace them, I was wrong - Anthony and Kate have far eclipsed them for me ....it was very Austen- est with all of the passionate and longing looks- so delightful to watch. Plus loved Daphne's input as the wise sister in love - she was incredibly perceptive! Have watched season 2 several times, so hope this season gets the response it deserves. Now will read the books- starting at book 2! Also now a new fan of Simone Ashley, who was equally brilliant, and hope to see her in a lot more things!
