- Until December 2020, English actor Jonathan Bailey was best known for his roles in Crashing, Chewing Gum and comedy series Campus - but now he's gained a new legion of fans thanks to his turn as Anthony Bridgerton in new hit Netflix period drama Bridgerton - which quickly became one of the streaming platform's top viewed series when it was released on Christmas Day.
A keen musical theatre fan (his guilty pleasure is watching musical flashmob videos on CZcams, he tells us), Bailey decided he wanted to go into acting after watching a production of Oliver aged five. Aside from his work in television, the actor went on to have a hugely successful career in theatre. He was nominated for Outstanding Newcomer at the 2012 Evening Standard Theatre Awards for his performance in David Hare's South Downs; he played the role of Tim Price in the musical American Psycho alongside Matt Smith in 2013; in 2017, he appeared alongside Ian McKellen in King Lear at the Chichester Festival Theatre; and in 2018, Bailey was cast in the second West End revival of Company, for which he won the 2019 Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical.

Being American, we are not used to the British accent. I’d just like to know, what do the British think of the American accent? Of course Americans are the ones with The accent. The British think that the Americans botched up the English language.
@@emoreland tbh as a brit, general american doesn't really register as a foreign accent to me anymore because of widespread american media. I mean ofcourse if I hear a gen am accent in the streets of london I would notice, but if it was on tv I wouldn't. But the accents in the souther part of the US and in the New York area is amaziinggg.
He played a straight man better than any other straight man and his version of the straight man is what we want for us except you realize that the reason you like this version of a straight man is because it's played by a gay man.

You’re actually so right… the reason why we (straight women) fell for him so hard is because he played a better straight man (an idolised version that hetero women actually want) than any straight man ever could... he’s in touch with his emotions and isn’t suppressive of them, isn’t “macho”, egotistic like straight men portray themselves. Jonathan is so sweet and talks so deeply about things which shows he really cares and has a profound aspect to him rather than a superficial one

Exactly. Except I was disappointed in myself to realize one could be attracted to a gay man pretending to be a straight man because you know you are attracted to straight men. No woman wants to be attracted to a gay man no more than a gay man is attracted to a woman. But having said that he play the part extremely well.
I am coming to this late. This man is such an expressive actor. As Tim in the new limited series FELLOW TRAVELERS, he is wonderful, at once needy, nerdy, & repressed and then sexy, sensuous, and filled with an overwhelming, expansive love for, arguably, one who is not as worthy of that love as he should be. If they go by book order, it will be. They sort of set the premise up at the end of season one. That whole “I’m not looking for love, I just need a wife to fulfill my duty.”

He will be the main one in the season 2 actually (like Daphne was in the first one, with his own marriage story). And if you are interested in see something old.. he made a comedy with Phoebe (Fleabag) that is in Netflix named Crashing, the character (Sam) is also a cute dumb asshole like Anthony 😅
@@imjustanotherj Just for clarity (for others who haven't seen Fleabag or Crashing), I just want to point out you are talking about Phoebe Waller-Bridge and not Phoebe Dynevor (Daphne in Bridgerton). Phoebe Waller-Bridge created, wrote, produced and starred in both of those shows (which I LOVE) so I didn't want any Bridgerton fans to get confused if they watched and didn't see Phoebe Dynevor in them. I saw a recent interview with Jonathan Bailey (Anthony Bridgerton) and didn't realize he was in it because I had only seen interviews with Regé-Jean Page & Phoebe Dynevor. I said to myself ... heeey, he's the CUTIE in Crashing!! Finally over the weekend, I finished the whole season within 27 hours!! LOVE IT!!!

Every single time a person say a gay actor is attractive or handsome, there is always comments following that says « do you know he is gay » or « shame that he is gay ».
Stuff like that is the reason why openly gay actors struggle so much and have a hard time getting cast because people always only see the sexuality while a straight actor can play everything, his sexuality don’t matter. Talk about double standards

I knew him from Broadchurch series on Netflix on November to December 2020, he acted really well on the series. A month later, January 2021, I found Bridgerton. I didn't know that the Regency era series was a mega hit at that time but am happy knowing Jonathan Bailey playing on those two series. *two thumbs up
