Rampaging through GTA 5 is such a great way to get out a little frustration.
Barkov is easily the best two way forward in the league. I remember when he was a young kid playing in Tappara in finnish league and even as a young rookie he was showing really exceptional talent and two way play. It's great to see him becoming one of the best players in the NHL.
I am glad that there is a hockey jersey routine. helps support the entire league. So often small markets get over looked or looked down upon. Its great to see all the teams represented and seeing/hearing about players on all teams. This helps grow the league.
Barkov winning the Selke is well deserved
Barkov got more than 1600 votes for the Selke, whereas Staal who ended up second got less than 600. What's surprising for me is that Hintz was 6th with 300+ votes, not that I ever thought he wasn't good defensively but 6th best in the league caught me off-guard. Kinda like Matthews being 3rd.
Matthews is underrated defensively because of the amount he scores goals and he plays for a team that doesn't perform in playoffs
It's because at this point, the Selke is reserved for players who are good at both offense and defense. It's supposed to be for the best defensive forward so a guy with like 10 points could win it. But that never happens. Norris has the same issue but in reverse. Hence why Erik Karlsson has won it twice, most recently with a -26 (!) rating. lol
Hintz is underrated, in part because he gets injured a lot and in part because his scoring is really streaky.
THG, clickbait, seriously the two words don't belong in the same sentence. Heck he gives way more info and entertainment than what's in the title 99% of the time.
The thought of THG playing GTA is hilarious to me. He’s sitting there saying “the guy calls a penalty, the car does not”

so i am the resident stars fan at work , well , one of them . I wear hats everyday, everywhere. I get asked all of the time after a loss, or even a big win, how about those stars? I can totally relate to being really pissed off after a sub par effort , in my expert fan opinion . if i feel they left it all out there on the ice, then i'll concede that the better team won. i hate people asking me what happened after a loss when they played like crap, regular season or playoffs. I love my team, and yes, i need a day or two to let it soak in so to speak.. It 's a double edged sword being a passionate fan for any sport.. I live in the dfw metroplex, so i see a lot of this for the resident cowboys fans.. As usual , great video shannon , you are the one and only hockey guy imo.. thanks

Yeah, Vancouver looked like a rich man's Ottawa Senators the last several years. They appeared to be on the verge of being a playoff team last year but this year has been a real surprise. I think most VC fans are pleased with the direction, regardless.
As a Finn Florida - Dallas in the final would be a dream scenario. We would have at least 3 new Stanley Cup winners🎉
True. I am a Blackhawks fan through and through but because Hawks are not in the playoffs i hope that Florida wins the cup.

Silovs is not Patrick Roy. The Canucks are not the 1986 Habs. I certainly hope the Canucks can win tomorrow, but it is a big ask for Silovs to steal one against the Oilers. If the Habs had won in 1986 with Hayward as their starter, that might work as a comparison, though Hayward wasn't a rookie at the time.

9:45 I remember one time THG wore the losing teams jersey (I think it was a Canucks playoff game). Whatever it was it was a team he cheered for and it was a frustrating, tough loss. The comments section was on fire. The video got taken down and reposted with him wearing the winning team’s jersey. I laughed so hard at the start of the new video because Shannon was just like, “There! You happy now!?”

I love me some GTA but when my team loses a stinker of a game or series, I turn on the PS5 and play NHL 24 and avenge my team 😂. I get done on the digital ice what they couldn't get done in RL.

Just know that my heart soars like an eagle every time I see you wear the Preds Mustard/MethCat jersey! Side note: Since you mentioned the 2011 Cup Final, that series was so epic that it made the Bruins my 2nd fav team. I figured since the Preds are in the West, I can also have an Eastern Conf team to cheer for. With that said, I've pretty bummed both my teams are out of the playoffs now. I guess I'm all-in on the Rangers at this point, since Florida beat Boston so I can't go for them lol! Keep up the great work Sir! Cheers!

No Demko and Boeser. Hockey Gods are cruel to Vancouver. Since 1983 cup finals I was a small kid that had his hopes crushed. Now thru the Linden,Sedins and now Hughes run I just feel numb. I feel your hidden sadness and disappointment for Vancouver.

He’s NOT underrated. His underrated phase happened in like 2019 when Bissonnette on Chiclets was saying he was underrated. He’s properly rated now and has been for years.

At the time he retired, Brind’Amour stated he could’ve played a few more years; but he would have had to move out of Raleigh as Carolina was rebuilding and he would not do that for the sake of his family. Considering all that, it was always a stretch to see him go coach somewhere else.

The pattern would say that the Nuckas win it. They’ve won all the odd numbered games and, and this is actually predictive, they haven’t lost two games in a row all year, so why start now?
Both of these teams are clown fiestas. It could go either way. Neither team is consistent enough to not get swept in the next round unless Demko comes back.

A lil bit of GTA is a GREAT stress reliever
It's weird, Michkov has apparently been posting videos on social media of him working out. And several times, wearing Flyers stuff. So I wonder how long the talks have been happening. Briere keeps saying "if we get him" but he did that about Kolosov/Fedotov, and that next weekend Kolosov was in town eating a cheesesteak.
Draft will be interesting, Philly has two picks. If Michkov shows up early, do they abandon this part of the rebuild and use those picks to get him some immediate help / protection? Go find a veteran Russian to mentor him about being in the States, etc.
I recall Danny B saying that Michkov coming over would not affect the rebuild strategy.
Every prospect drafted by a team wears their drafted teams gear. I’ve seen OHL guys were their NHL gear even if not signed. It really means nothing.

I honestly feel like I care more about the Worlds than the NHL sometimes. I find it cool because you get to see non-nhl players shine against NHL players and show how good they are despite not being in the NHL. Also some of the passion that some of the nation's fans have is next level. However, I totally understand you not covering them as you already do so much content and put so much effort into covering the NHL that I completely understand that you need a little bit of a break. However, I don't think you should completely not care about it either.
I'm in favor of moving Ullmark if it makes sense, but the Bruins should give serious consideration to moving Zacha, too. He has a similar salary and is coming off a career year. Why trade him, then? Because he's redundant. The Bruins already have a bunch of guys who play like Charlie Coyle. Zacha is one of them and Geekie is another. Strangely enough, they seem to be trying to make Frederick into another Coyle-lite, too. But I'd bet Zacha gets plenty of takers, and even if it's just for picks (Which they need), it frees up space to get the kind of center they want in free agency or maybe a trade.
Coyle is 5 years older and has a higher cap hit. Zacha could play wing with Pastrnak if they get a real #1 center. Look how good he was with Pastrnak and Krejci. I'd keep Zacha before Coyle.
… and Edmonton fan I feel like the canucks are going to decimate them. The choke is for real with these two teams. May the best in the west win.

If Vancouver moves on and Demko plays vs Dallas.... That's going to be one hell of a series, and if Dallas defeated them and has to play the Rangers in the final, then that is the hardest road to a Stanley Cup Championship I've ever seen
Staal played the best defense this year but didn't have enough offense to please the voters. Disappointment.

It was pretty tough beating Dallas with their top defenseman out and think we lost when he was in and now they have Tanev who is imitating the Terminator.. As a Canuck fan we have been climbing all season. Hope we can keep clawing our way forward.

Good news for Carolina and bad news for other teams who were hoping Brind'Amour would be available as a head coach. The PWHL is at least starting their Finals at a more reasonable time of year than the NHL. The NHL Finals shouldn't still be going on in the middle of June, unless you're playing on roller skates.

DeSmith has about 200 minutes of Stanley Cup playoff experience. I think it would be way more risky to put cold goalie in at this point. I would predict the result would be 8 minutes 4 shots against, two goals allowed, Silovs back in the net. Not that I think Silovs is that much or any better than DeSmith. But this point Canucks should just go with Silovs.
@THG I've been wondering what it really means that a team is struggling with scoring even though they get chances. This reason for losing is given quite often but it isn't elaborated at all. Is it bad luck? Is it a mental thing? Are the players just bad at shooting the puck? Is is something wrong with the game plan? Is it because the opposing goalie is playing really well? Especially when scoring is a problem for a longer period like it has been for the Canes in playoffs I think it should be elaborated further. Maybe this could be a video idea.
When a team doesn't win it is everything. Lack of talent, mental blocks, injuries, flawed systems, bad ref calls, luck of the balance. The teams that win have all the same problems just slightly less. It only seems a problem for Carolina and a few other teams like Boston, Toronto, and Edmonton because less than half the teams make the playoffs two years in a row.

I also choose GTA5 as catharsis. I like to get in a Nightshark and drive down the sidewalks. If I am less irritated I just aim for as many fire hydrants as possible.

Huge Rangers fan here...I had a lot for RBA. One of the best coaches in the league. Really respect how he stood by his team. I think 8f Carolina let him go, the franchise would be set back years.

The odd thing about the World championships is that for me as a hockey fan in Europe they were more important than the nhl playoffs growing up. I could cheer for a team to loose so that there Swedish players could play in the World Championships
That had a lot to do with media coverage.
Back in 1980 everyone in Sweden could watch all games in the Worlds live on TV for free. The NHL playoffs you could read about in the newspaper the day after, so no one cared.

Buffalo fans like myself were kind of hoping Brind’Amour might become available to attract as Granato’s replacement; glad he’s staying with Carolina as he is a huge reason for their resurgence after years of middling play.
The oilers and Vancouver are lucky they didn’t have to play Colorado or Vegas because I think they lose to both of them, and I think whoever wins tomorrow loses to Dallas as well

The Wild defense was horrible for months Ek’s fault or not you can't have a Selke winner on a team that can't stop pucks 🤦♂️lol. The Swayman extension will show what happens with Ullmark. Swayman was clearly happy he wasn't moved him and Ullmarks family are very close. With that in mind maybe he takes a 1 year deal around $5M to keep Ullmark till his deal is up then they both come back next summer at like $3M Ullmark and $7-$8M for Sway. If Ullmark also really wants to stay. He could obviously make more elsewhere but he also has never been a real workhorse starting 60+ games a year. The tandem works 🤷♂️.

Can people stop saying "Barkov is the most underappreciated player in the NHL" now?
A lot of players want to play their contracts out with their teams, but you know what, being traded is a part of the business, and the team is going to do what’s best in their interest. And right now he’s the only trade chip they have that can bring a good return. They’ve already tried to trade him multiple times I mean he’s a good goalie. They are going to get a good return. Plus this summer his contract has less teams he can say no to a trade from. A lot of teams like Ottawa, San Jose, la, could use him as a full time starter.
There is 16 teams on his list so that's half the league. That might cut down his value some because a team doesn't have to worry about bidding against half the teams. So considering what teams are not on his list that may need a goalie that also cuts it down some.

I’ve only really really been watching hockey for the last couple of years (Edmonton decade of darkness kid) and the only time I can think of this happening to me was late in the season with the last game in Tempe.
