The Way We Wore Makes a Comeback

Doris Raymond, president of the Los Angeles-based The Way We Wore, a vintage clothing store, had a tough 2020. Between COVID-19 impacting her business and being a victim of lootings, as an independent retailer, she had an insurmountable number of challenges to overcome after last year. However, her store is back, bold, and beautiful. FashionUnited sat down with the resilient businesswoman to discuss how she managed to emerge from a 2020 and the message of hope she wants to send to other independent fashion businesses that are still reeling from the challenges of 2020.

That sounds like a horrific ordeal and I’m so very sorry you had to endure it. Since you always look for the positive, hoarding silk lame that really knocks your socks off was a safety net. YAY for the come back kid!

Just saw your shows on hand e roidered pieces from Mexico ( even modern day) , and the last one was on embroidered tulle. I had no idea it wasn’t only that nylon really scratchy cheap stuff,. Thank you so very much for the great ed. that white handmade cotton tulle w hand embroidery is beyond beyond. I feel blessed just to have seen it outside a museum.. so Doris, I found a pic of the week for you. It is modern day, but your size maybe and color and your style and has your great love of hand embroidery. It reminds me of that lovely peri blue sleeveless embroidered pheasants blouse you wore so much on the Paramount show. I honestly have never sold on Etsy, postmark, do not sell anything period except psychotherapy services. So it’s a ‘22 Dior runway piece in lapis royal denim w hand embroidery.Just went up 2 hrs ago.
It’s short so you’d have to wear pants or tights or open. So cool. Why can’t it be vintage? You do say you love new embroidered stuff. Loved, loved your dress , btw, in the tulle episode, looked like a batiks knit ombré effect. So cool. I found one other Doris thing. I’m not looking for YOU, I’m looking for ME, lol.
