New NBA Height Rule Reveals The Truth

  • The NBA has introduced a new rule that states every NBA team must send in the correct height for every player on their roster within the first week of the season. The height measurements are taken without shoes on. This severely changes the way some players are seen. Al Horford who was previously listed at 6'10 is shown to actually be 6'9 without shoes. You may think this isnt a big deal because players still wear shoes when they play. But the importance comes in when you look at the fact that players in the 60s took their height measurements without their shoes on. There is a common misconception that players in the 60s were short, in this video I use the new NBA rule changes to refute this view.
    The videos used in the background are from Wilt Chamberlain Archive and House of Highlights.

    I've always thought that the average nba height back then and now, is that it meet half way. the guards and forwards now are almost as tall as their center which is mostly 6'9ish. Compared to traditional line up where center are the biggest guy on the team. Like 90s was packed of 6'10ish-7ft+ tall center but the guards are not as tall as today.

    Competition was weaker in the 60s-80s so the height comparison is irrelevant. Especially players in today’s league can do more than players in the past. Y’all need to realize that every generation gets better and better due to evolution and technology.

    • @BigStallProductions
      @BigStallProductions  Před 4 lety

      AlexGonz Old head? Man I’m 24 lol. And I never said players today weren’t better. As a matter of fact I made a caveat saying that all time greats in the 60s - 70s would have be given all the amenities players today are given AND time to learn the game and rule changes implemented today to still be great. And I talked about the level of competition related to the amount of teams in the video. I said that’s the only argument I could understand against players in the 60s and 70s. I provided a counter argument, but I still understand the validity of the competition argument.
      As for players today being able to do more therefore being better, I disagree.
      For Example: Jokic can do more than Shaq, Jokic is not better than Shaq.

    • @mowglie628
      @mowglie628 Před 4 lety +2

      Players today are allowed to do more. If you dropped today's players off in the past, the guards would be called for carrying/palming/traveling damn near every time they touched the ball. They'd be immediately benched for jacking up 30 footers in a league with no 3-point line. I could go on.
      The rules have changed dramatically over the years. Therefore so has the play style. It doesn't just go one way, though. Yes, the players of the past would need to change their game to adapt to today's standards. Butt the same is true in reverse. The players of today would have to change their game to adapt to previous eras, too.

      @@elchoppa2346 Reread the chart. The average height from 1950 to 1959 was 76 inches. 76 inches is 6 feet 4 inches. The average height in 1947 was 6'1, but thats 1947, not the 1950s.
      And in the video I specifically said the 1960s and 1970s when talking about players. The average height in that era was 77 inches or 6'5. You can look at the chart you sent and it concurs with that statement.
