C's Thoughts & Things Joey doesn't learn well by the word commands I use. I think the majority of the time he is only going by the hand signal. This is why I believe deaf ferrets can learn just as much as hearing ones.
Thecatisfineto Thanks so much! I have to train him after he has done a lot of playing to wear himself out a little. Its really hard to work with them while they are so hyper!
Hi Courtney ! Allways a great pleasure to see your vids ! My Gaston is à year and a half now. Do you think it's still time to teach him some of these tricks ? Didier from France.
That's amazing. Each of my three will do stuff in their own way, but they all know the kitchen-they could be hog wild but if I go near the kitchen it's serious treat time business...Whenever my youngest one Houdini poops where he's supposed to my female Beatrix will come running because she knows I got the the treats out. Miles, my seven year old just heads to the to the kitchen if he smells coffee in the morning...Love your vids.
So cute. We taught ours to roll over and she was so funny because she would just start doing it any time she wanted a treat. They are so flexible, she could roll over while keeping here eye on you the whole time. I had mine back when the first digital cameras were coming out, so unfortunately I never got any video of her. They are incredibly smart, but hard to train because it's difficult to get them to pay attention!
my ferret and I are now learning tricks thank to you and joey my little boy is a fast learner thank you so much for opening your and joeys home up for me and my little boy to learn thank you again
Joey is so smart and he is coming along so well the little sweetheart! BTW the end table with the drawer that's in the background - very nice! Courtney has very good taste in furniture!
were did u get this little guy at hes so so so so smart i will try training my two little baby girl ferrets lilly and sofie . did u train him because if u did you a really good mother.
Great job! I am on my third ferret now and finally got one completely litter trained, I have to keep the litter clean otherwise he won't use it. Either way, I got some new ideas. Thank you!
You guys are just awesome, I started giving my Slinky boiled chicken too as treats he just loves it. I love that Joey gives you a high 5 how can I get my deaf Slinky to do that?? :)
Joey is a very cute, smart ferret. I gotta train my ferret, Kiah, to come to me. Only had her for 2 months and she litter train herself. Just wish she stop scratching the carpet.
Ben762x51 czcams.com/video/MyxcSXvBl6E/video.html is my vid on treats. In addition to these Ive started using Stella and Chewys freeze dried raw cat food and he loves it! Ferret Vite has sugar in it (molasses) so I try to stay away from it since sugar can lead to insulinoma later in life.
I am 11 years old and you have inspired me to try to teach my 2 ferrets how to do that .I already tot them how to roll over and spin.but I would like to know how to do it .I watched every video you have posted and .........do you suggest me to use a clicker or..........also I love your video's.
Taylor Marie, give him something to dig in, tote filled with corn starch packing peanuts, plain white rice, little toy balls. Put tearts in it and they will dig around to find them.
so cuteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Hi I'm just wondering what treats you're giving Joey? I have 4 ferrets. All home pets here in Ireland. I have 2 4year olds , 1 1year old and 1 new kit I got yesterday 9weeks old. I'm looking to put a lot of training into my new little fella. And wondering if you'd have any tips? Thanks very much Mark.
How do you train your ferret to sit? I've taught mine to go up on his hind legs, to go right back down, and walk in formation. Is sitting the same as getting on his hind legs?
I've been training him to do tricks since he was 6 months old. He is 2 now so that sort of gives you an idea. We train just about every day. He goes through most of the ones he already knows first, and then we work on new things.
I have a ferret name Mikey but he is just too hiper and won't eat his treats I feed him treats called Bandits is that good for ferrets?how can I make him focus? Love ur videos
+Mikey the ferret and Michelle the human Bandits are the healthiest treats, but they aren't the worst that are out there. I have a video on treats that might help you. In addition to the suggestions in the video, I also use Stella and Chewys freeze dried raw Duck Duck Goose for cats.
I want a ferret so I can train him/her tricks too. Is there any tips on choosing a ferret (for example: boy or girl) and if I do get a ferret, any tips on how to make it enthusiastic?
Piggy Pals I think the most important thing is to research where the ferret is coming from. If its a pet store, ask where they get them from and research the place. If you choose to buy from a breeder then ask other breeders their opinion of the breeder you are considering. If its a rescue from a shelter just be sure to ask lots of questions about its history and whether or not there are any health issues. As far as picking one out by looking at them, I look for bright eyes, good skin/coat, and personality to name a few.
I wanted a ferret but I don't know if their personality suits me I want a pet that i can play with and have fun with daily but also one that makes me laugh but can cuddle and actually wants to cuddle and thrives on your attention basically a dog in small animal form since I'm not allowed to have a dog. So I'm torn between a male rat or make ferret would you recommend one. Cuddling is important so please take that into key lol. Oh and I'm open to other small animal suggestions.
mustapha dibba Ferrets are funny, silly and sometimes cuddly. They are a lot of work and need to be supervised out of the cage several hours of the day. They are not very cuddly as babies because they are so hyper but with proper love and care they can become a little more cuddly as adults. They are never really going to be as cuddly as dogs can be at least in my experience. They also are expensive when it comes to vet care so take that into consideration also.
Joshua Jackson it's safe to say I'd pay for whatever he needs as I have already paid several thousand in vet bills over the past 4 years. This is the main reason I have only 1 ferret. I have pet insurance for him also. They are not cheap when it comes to proper vet care. They are prone certain diseases later in life and if they get one of those in their later years it is costly.
Joshua Jackson they are more expensive than you'd think. I'd say they are about as expensive as a cat or dog vet care wise. Proper food can be a lot too since they are strict carnivores.
Hi! I'm a huge fan of Joey and clicker training. My ferret is a little girl named Daisy. She is only about 4-5 months old. She is very picky about what she'll eat and I don't know how to get her to try something knew. She just ignores anything new. I want to get her to take boiled chicken like Joey so I can train her. The only treats she will take now is Bandit treats and she is not crazy about them. Can you give me some techniques to get her to try some new foods?
try mixing the new treat in with her food for a few days. The boiled chicken is a lot healthier than bandit treats so hopefully she will take to the chicken. After mixing it in, maybe she'll learn that it is food and start to like it. Sometimes its like you have to teach the ferret that new foods are edible. Just be sure you change out what she doesn't eat fairly soon as you wouldn't want to eat boiled chicken that had been left out for a while :O)
I have tried mixing it in and she just eats around it. I've gotten her to eat pieces of beef but I have to really force it until she starts to lick and eat it. But it seems she forgets shortly afterwards that it's edible. I'm going to try with chicken the next time we take some out of the freezer. Even with the bandit treats she isn't very enthusiastic about them like Joey is. I really just want to teach her to come when called so I can let her run around in different areas besides my bedroom.
Epic Gecko When he was less than 6 months we only worked on learning note to bite and litter training. Once he was 6 months we starting working on tricks. He was pretty quick with learning for a ferret. You can't compare with dogs or anything like that. They do learn quicker than most people realize though.
Although I really do like ferrets and would like to own one, they don't seem to intelligent. Rather I should say not obedient as a dog. Do you always need to give him treats after he completes a task? Unlike dogs, you usually tell them to come or sit and they don't need treats after they have been conditioned. Of course you have to at some point give them treats, but not all the time. Can you condition ferrets to that degree? They don't seem to chill to often do they? i saw your other videos and that adorable little guy is very ADHDish haha.
You're correct - they are not as obedient as a dog. I can condition Joey to do several tricks and not reward for each task, but I can't do that very much. Also, his attention span for training is only about 5-10 minutes per day. I am still impressed by his memory and his problem solving skills - it makes up for the "ADHDish" stuff. ha ha
Oh my goodness he is adorable! What a smart boy! I hope I can teach my ferret Hiccup some of these. :) I love the hand signals, cuz he's deaf.
C's Thoughts & Things Joey doesn't learn well by the word commands I use. I think the majority of the time he is only going by the hand signal. This is why I believe deaf ferrets can learn just as much as hearing ones.
WOW the coming and staying was amazing! no idea how that is possible with a crazy ferret like mine who never stops moving. haha
Thank you!!

Carmen Bosley Thank you!
Both you and Joey are phenomenal!
Thank you so much! :)
very impressive, excellent example of how well a ferret can be trained. I really didn't think it could be done, considering their hyperactiveness
Thecatisfineto Thanks so much! I have to train him after he has done a lot of playing to wear himself out a little. Its really hard to work with them while they are so hyper!

Amazing! I am just wondering what is the treat you give Joey? My ferrets are not interested in the treats I prepared for them lol
Joey is a very cute, smart ferret. I gotta train my ferret, Kiah, to come to me. Only had her for 2 months and she litter train herself. Just wish she stop scratching the carpet.
i taught mine to stand, roll, come but sum of these r crazy
Are you using gerber puffs as treats? If not what kinda of treat are you using?
Very nice. Do you have any recommendations for treats to try?
I currently use ferret vite
Ben762x51 czcams.com/video/MyxcSXvBl6E/video.html is my vid on treats. In addition to these Ive started using Stella and Chewys freeze dried raw cat food and he loves it! Ferret Vite has sugar in it (molasses) so I try to stay away from it since sugar can lead to insulinoma later in life.
Joey is smart cute and funny at the same time ;] He and you are awesome :
Ice And Ashes Thank you!
could you make a cardborad space ship for joey and make a video of him going to space ?
Hi! I was just wondering what type of treat you use? Cause my ferret seems to not like any treats so I have been trying some new ones!
I am 11 years old and you have inspired me to try to teach my 2 ferrets how to do that .I already tot them how to roll over and spin.but I would like to know how to do it .I watched every video you have posted and .........do you suggest me to use a clicker or..........also I love your video's.

Great idea! Dig boxes are a great idea. Joey doesn't use his - I wish he would!
so cute! what do you feed Joey as a treat? (just got a female ferret and shes having trouble with kibble because its so hard)
TheBeautifulAryan i actually have a video on treats, but a recent one I've been using is Stella and Chewys freeze dried turkey for cats. He LOVES it!
I want a ferret so bad but I could hardly get my dad to agree on the 2 rats that he got me. There's no way a ferret will go over well.
I wish my ferret would dunk lol. Joey is so cool. I think I'm going to see if Pharaoh(my ferret) can learn.
ThisIsNarissaDejanae awesome! :O) Just try your best and don't get frustrated.
so cuteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Marco Kirwan czcams.com/video/MyxcSXvBl6E/video.html Here are most of the treats I give.
Can you do a question and ancer video where we ask you questions and you ancer them in a video and where did you get Joey ?
i answer the question where I got Joey in my video "A little bit about Joey and I"
How do you train your ferret to sit? I've taught mine to go up on his hind legs, to go right back down, and walk in formation. Is sitting the same as getting on his hind legs?
Ferrets don't really sit. I guess you could call their "standing up" a sit if you wanted since a lot of times their butt is still on the ground.
What are you giving them after they do the tricks
Lyla wright czcams.com/video/MyxcSXvBl6E/video.html
That is amazing! How long did that take you to teach him?

I'm getting my ferret tomorrow and she is 4 months old. I hope to try and train her to do something's. Joey is adorable!!
what do you use as a treat?
+emily Beirsack czcams.com/video/MyxcSXvBl6E/video.html I also give Stella and Chewys freeze dried duck for cats.
CUTES THING EVER
What kind of treat is being used?
Christian Soares I have an entire video about treats on my channel that will let you know what I use.
What kind of ferret is he?
Where did you get Joey? I was looking to get one
Rainbow Cloud A reputable ferret breeder that was in my state. Unfortuantely, she is no longer breeding ferrets.
I have a ferret name Mikey but he is just too hiper and won't eat his treats I feed him treats called Bandits is that good for ferrets?how can I make him focus? Love ur videos

omg can you train my Stitch? he does whatever he wants and listens to no one. lol
Which trick do u think is the hardest
Luke B The basketball trick was by far the hardest! The piano one is the second hardest.

Joey TheTrainedFerret You should make a treat preparation video! How long do you boil the chicken for? Love your vids!
Can he catch a small ball
how old was joey when you started training him
sharon pavlicek litter box and nip training was as soon as i got him....trick training was once he turned 6 months old.
Did you train Joey since he was a baby?
And was Joey quick to learn tricks?
Epic Gecko When he was less than 6 months we only worked on learning note to bite and litter training. Once he was 6 months we starting working on tricks. He was pretty quick with learning for a ferret. You can't compare with dogs or anything like that. They do learn quicker than most people realize though.
oh... was it hard to potty train Joey?

Joey is so cute my ferret lelu would never do any of that she is very hostile and is only calm when she wakes up any tips
Can u make a video on how to train a ferret with a clicker
Autumn Love I have several videos on that topic.
So cool! Joey your so smart! I'm guessing he was free roaming, mine was he even slept with me, dam I miss him! Your awesome joey, stay furry.
Cute
yeah i now its so cute
Do u think rats or ferrets would win in a basket ball game. I think rats just cause I have a rat that loves basket ball.
502_ Clairaaa yeah rats will win because ferrets will just go crazy and dunk themselves through the hoop. 😂
Claira. Andrewss ferrets because they'd probably eat the rats...
I am the 1,000th person to have liked this video
Joeys going to get fat if you keep training him!😸
