    Hey Sonic, I just wanted to drop you this comment to let you know how much I appreciate not only your videos but your unique style of presenting them. I've been watching them now for what, nearly 4 years ? And they still put a smile on my face, which so few things on social media manage to do these days. You manage to keep your videos light, funny and informative, sticking to the hobby of miniature painting and not injecting any of your political or social opinions or observations. I can't tell you how much that means to people like myself who turn to this hobby and tutors like yourself to escape, even for just a few moments, the craziness of this world. Thanks again and God bless. 👍

      I figure there's plenty of places people can go to inform themselves - or not - on CZcams and other sites like it. I'm lucky enough to be able to share a little figurative peace and quiet. I don't think I've ever made much secret of my stance on things, but they rarely come up in the context of painting miniatures, and that's where I'd prefer the focus here be.

    I just started painting minis about a month ago and the guy at my local game shop recommended your channel. I think I could watch your videos at 5x speed muted and STILL learn a ton. Watching you organize the order in which you paint certain surfaces, where and how to highlight, when and where to wash or highlight, and even just what brushes you use has been incredibly helpful.

    I must confess that you're the only miniature painting youtuber I still watch after jumping from channel to channel for four years. The farcical self-aggrandizing or ineptitude at explaining the most basic techniques drove me away from all of them. I really appreciate your down to earth tutorials and just because of your videos I actually bought and painted a Stormcast army and several of Necromunda gangs, despite strongly disliking GW's company policies and rulesets.
    So thank you very much for your work! :-)

    I only need to do a Kill Team, so I think I'm going to: 1 - shave off the aquila from the helmet, 2 - fill the puttees into boots with green-stuff and 3 - *try* to sculpt sand-goggles over the upper face instead of the gasmask eyes. I was worrying about doing a much more involved conversion that involved shortening the coat, but I'm not convinced that's viable.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio

      I think getting into the realm of adjusting the coat or trying to give the lasgun that classic folding stock start to get into the realm of extremely difficult, at least by my perspective, but I'd think the boots would definitely be possible. Should make a big difference overall, too!

    wonderful!
    a really nice paintjob.
    I've honestly been umming and aahing about how to do some of these whensoever it is I can get my hands on a set of them.
    SL was one if my plans. I too remeber the third armageddon campaign with much fondness!
    Also felt that the whole circular thing about making dkok out of sl and now making sl out of dkok was very apt, as my sl were painted and converted as dkok back in 2002! (I used chaos spikes on the helmets as pikelhaubes!)
    so Yeah I too have been thinking of doing some along these lines, albeit taking the conversion a little further and using madrobot's 'capari shock troop' heads on the dkok plastics...
    but I was not sure about doing the yellow. not a colour I'm all that happy painting.
    your vid has shown me exactly how to do it and with such ease! thank you so much.
    also will be getting some of that varnish asap. good god what a nice finish!

      @@SonicSledgehammerStudio Another question if i might ask: As an Army of Armageddon Steel Legion would be nothing without Tanks and other Vehicles and since i really like the more yellow colour scheme you did in this video, could it also be applied to said Tanks when painting them? I mean, obvious answer is yes, a Tank be painted with any colours one likes, but do you think it would look good?

      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety +1

      You'd be better to try and find a mid or even light grey than starting from black - you'll need a fair few coats to get a solid yellow over black.

    Bit late but have you expanded on this model and have made a Squad for them? Inspired me to seriously consider running a Steel Legion Army once again with these models as the Standard Infantry and then hunt down some Grenadiers for my Storm Troopers.

    Hi Sonic great content as always and has inspired me to do my own steel legion. Do you think a similiar result could be achieved with contrast paints, and if so what coulours are best for coat/trousers etc?

    One thing I still really hate that GW did with the plastic Kriegs is they completely changed the iconic gas mask design. I'd love to see someone carefully file down or adjust the masks on these so they look more like the iconic world war one british brown bag masks that they should be

    I have tried painting tau in the red farsight and brown T'au scheme and I am despairing.
    It never seems to work as it does for others, the highlights turn out blotchy and smeary despite thinning,
    and various precautions (shaking longer etc).
    I am devastated to find that even simple looking schemes, arent at all really achievable for most "mortals".

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před rokem

      If you're getting highlights that won't behave, the simplest answer is usually that you're adding either too much or too little water - and what I usually see when sitting with folks adding water for the first time, it's probably too much. Everyone starts from somewhere; everybody's a mortal, and everyone has to practice to find what works.

    Awesome video - been struggling to decide on a paint scheme for my DKOK and this did it for me! Curious why you used Vallejo Desert Yellow vs Zandri Dust? You mention being able to use either, curious your rationale. Thanks!

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety +1

      Zandri Dust will work alright, but I find the slightly more saturated yellow base you'll get from Desert Yellow will give easier results for the jackets without having to worry about a third coat of layer paint.

    Steel legion was always my favorite guard regiment, too bad they got "overtaken" by a meme and discontinued. Have had the urge to do at least a kill team of the guys, got some of the old metal heavy weapon platforms too. This vid did not help to Still that urge im afraid! My poor wallet!
