Amsoil is a marketing strategy and that’s all. You’re paying for something you don’t need. I’ve run Super Tech oil for the last 5 years on my vehicle and it’s fine. The key is to change your oil. All modern oils are fantastic.

I use to. But now with the price so close you may as well by name brand. You only save a dollar or two at most. Went to Rural King and bought their oil known as Providence Automotive. Conventional is 12.99 five quarts. And full synthetic is 17.99 five quarts.

I love wix filters. These days though I have to check the filters to make sure I get one made in the USA. Also a fan of Baldwin. I've been a castrol fan since 2002, and pretty much use all their products. I've always wanted to try amsoil, but nobody has it in stocks. Plus it's expensive. I also change my oil so often that it probably doesn't matter. I'm still stuck in the past apparently with my 3500 mile oil changes. However I with GDI, and Turbo, it's probably a good thing I'm doing my changes early. Especially with the 10th gen civic fuel dilution issues.

I like the filters you mentioned. The Baldwin for my Ford Ranger does not have the silicone drain back valve, so I don't use it. Also I keep some Amsoil at home and throw in a quart with the Castrol or Valvoline.

How do you know the micron size of the particles caught by the magnet? And if the stuff goes through the filter, like you say, how much has already gone through the filter without being caught by the magnet ?
I think a bypass filter from Amsoil, Frantz, or Kleenoil will work much better, and keep the oil cleaner.

In 1988 I used Amsoil in my Datsun B210 and it was so viscus that the engine kept stalling and it lacked power. I drained it after 100 miles and replaced it with Mobile 1. I won't use Amsoil in anything.

I also read Rat 540's stuff. I just bought a new Westinghouse 14,500 peak watt generator and just got finished breaking it in with Valvoline conventional 10w-30. I have the same jug (or two) purchased at a local WalMart and I'm gonna pick it up in a few hours. Amsoil is also only part Synthetic. Red Line is a true synthetic if your definition of Synthetic is a group 4 or 5 oil. Amsoil is not fully group 4 or 5 according to Ford Boss Me CZcams channel. This guy knows what he is talking about and has helped Marvel Mystery oil with the makeup of a 10% composition added to the oil instead of the 20%. Amsoil is a great oil but very pricey and you can get more bang per buck with something like Pennzoil Ultra. The Wix XP filter is a great filter in my opinion also.

There is no such thing as "synthetic oil". All oils come out of the ground. Even natural gas comes from the ground. Amsoil buys their oil from a bulk dealer and then refines it and adds their own additive package. I'm not saying Amsoil is a bad oil, I'm sure it's fine. But it is NOT "synthetic". It comes from the ground just like any other oil. All you're paying for is a more highly refined oil with a better additive package.

I use what I use. It's none of someone's business what I use. QS eats Valvoline's lunch in every single test! But the meth addicts in my area love to pick a fight over everything. If they're not getting high they're getting drunk and forgetting who they abused the next day. I probably wouldn't go with Rat540 or 540Rat's tests. He's a mechanical engineer BUT he doesn't use a single standardized test for oil that's approved by the Society of Engineers. His tests are interesting. I've read his blog over the years and noticed some things that don't quite add up but I don't want to get into any of that. But if you look at standard physical test results of the major players it's very difficult to beat just plain old Advanced Durability all the way up to their Full Synthetic. I mean yeah you can spend more but if the extra cost is what helps people feel better about a purchase why do they buy a Buick Regal when a Mercedes Benz or a Maybach is more expensive? Amsoil's own test a few years back the old QS Ultimate Durability now called Full Synthetic done pretty good but even then Amsoil didn't use the standard test methods. When we create our own tests with little objectivity we can come up with all kinds of results. When we compare one vehicle in 1981 to another with a different driver, different maintenance schedule, and different mechanical condition, without an issue it's purely subjective to blame any one thing like the oil. I'll never buy Amsoil SS simply because of the price and the fact I don't drive enough miles in a year for it to make good sense if you just change so many miles or once a year. The main vehicle i drive gets oil changed twice a year and the trash truck gets the filter changed and it's still on the M1HM put in 2 years ago. Probably has 30 miles on in 2 years. I just make sure I get the oil hot before I shut the engine off.
