    Press fit vs Threaded is a selling point for me. It's the first detail I look at when considering a bike. I will ALWAYS go for the threaded bb.

    • @gmbntech
      @gmbntech  Pƙed 6 lety +1

    • @antoinedoinell
      @antoinedoinell Pƙed 6 lety +2

      Yes, very small but so important for me. I like doing my own maintenance, don't like creaking and don't want to buy more specialty tools. That tolerance will eventually fade and the bike will be worthless. It's what my brain thinks. I mean let's be real...is the slight bit of extra width that much better for the consumer? or is the majority of benefit going to production costs? just my 2 cents. (THANK YOU SANTA CRUZ!)

    • @boomerangfreak
      @boomerangfreak Pƙed 6 lety

      I see why people think that way really, maybe it's partly because people in general are reluctant to change? I mean how long has the BSA standard been around for now? If I can I'll go for a BSA BB myself but I won't let a good deal on a bike pass by just cause it has a PF BB. I got my scott genius for a few months now and haven't noticed any problems and in the shop I worked there most people never said anything bad about their PF BB we installed.

      @@boomerangfreak in my case I have no problem to change to something better or just different, I had three bikes with press fit and all of them had creaking noises, I took them to big shops and they couldn't do anything to solve the problem, and in two of them the mechanic told me press fit is a problem. Since then I pay attention to my friends bikes and some of them creak and they just don't care, but they have the problem. Now, my current bikes have threaded bb and no one creaks. When you took the cup out and noticed it was dry - That's why I do a fresh install when I get a new bike, bb, headset, even hub bearings. Sometimes they come improperly assembled - dry bearings, dry pressfits, no loctite, wrong torques. loctite 609 and 638 are good to have. Also, even thought the bearings feel good, might as well pop the seal, flush, replace the grease. Grease is a solvent and you don't know how "full" it is unless you look at it.

    You using a torque wrench reminded me of something I've been meaning to ask for a while though. I know it's recommended to always store a torque wrench with it at the lowest setting but does this also apply to a Park ATD? I assume it does and always set mine to 4Nm after use but I can't find anything to confirm it online. I could just ask Park of course but I figure you'll know this and the answer may help more than just myself.

    Problems I see with press fit bearings in bb shell & integrated headsets is they eat away the frame.
    I think I sohudl go with Chris king pressfit headset & threaded BB.
    So far I got good experience with it, I usually notice wear of headset bearings after few months, or weeks with other bearings I tried.
    the worst experience ever was FSA bearings on my fuel ex, on one bike the top bearing was crushed after just few weeks, metal shavings every where.
    since then I swapped for enduro & cane Creek bearings.
    but one one bike it wore faster than the other, maybe the frame has something to do with it, it also got a inwards dent, although it did not have an impact.
    I will also stay away from carbon frames.

    Ive seen hundreds of videos on bike and new tech which keeps changing every year.
    I got a great deal on barely used 29er with SRAM Eagle 1x12 drive and decent air fork. Frame I got is Merida Big9 7000, which I'll use to transfer the components to.
    Issues I'm having is to decide on proper spacers for DUB PF BB92. Second issue is the headset which is FSA NO.55E (company web specs) but I have issue finding it here in Australia. Is there other headsets I can use? I'm confused with so many options.
    Apologies if my questions seem trivial, it is my first bike build this century and so much has changed. Your channel is amazing and helps so much. Thank you guys. #AskGMBNTech

    I'd recommend putting in one bearing after the other to get them in straight! Also i wonder why you didn't put grease on the crank itself before installing it into the bottom bracket?

      fabianinthemiddle that’s going to end up worse though, the bearings need to be square with each other, so they don’t wreck the spindle

    Hi, I just installed my pressfit BB86 with resing cups (Shimano BB-RS500) for the first time inside my bare carbon shell. Is it normal for the resing cups (or bare carbon) to snap/click loud like this when pressing in ? I was afraid I am damaging something ( I was using a home made press tool) but I ensured that the cups were prefitted parallel to the shell axis. I also lubricated both the cups and the shell with a little bit of waterproof grease. I think that even though the grease has been applied, the cups were sort of 'tension jumping' due to the friction with carbon but I want to make sure that this snapping noise is normal for bare carbon shells. can you advise ?

    Hey up Doddy, does GMBN tech do tech product reviews, I am looking for a good action camera but not to expensive as I will probably smash it up, can you recommend any ?

      We don't actually do product reviews, but we've been playing around with the Insta360 lately and it seems quite easy and good fun.

    Who is using a BB press on alloy frame and the cups still won't go in straight, even if pressed one at a time? Bad luck or are those videos just convienient best scenario?
