I'm about 10 minutes in and being able to hit NPCs is an amazing feature I didn't know I needed. I immediately smacked the guy who steals your coins in the west side

fyi the fast travel pipe in hooktails castle is for getting the badge lower in that room. theres a pipe next to the badge that puts you back up so you dont have to redo half of the castle
you made a part 2 of this series where you do chapter 2 but i havent watched that yet as i wanna play this game as blind as possible, so you might have figured this out already but in case you didnt thats what the pipe is for!
This remake is I think the first time in a long while that we've seen Toadsworth and Kammy Koopa, both characters are pretty much retired from being in Mario games. The only reason they're here, is because it's a remake.
Removing the naming ghe save file feature was a cardinal sin,We got the remake,but at what cost...

since it uses your switch profile name instead you can just change that ig
In return it shows Mario's head along with your current partner on the file, even better is that it recognizes if you have an emblem on and changes the color accordingly.

The main battle theme gets remixed for every main area in the game. Goated remake tbh
It's good to hear that the overall game speed feeling slower isn't just in my head. Not only the text boxes, but even that battles and navigating menus feels ever slightly slower, just little things here and there that tack on seconds. Still LOVE the og game AND this remake to pieces, but yeesh, it's EXTREMELY noticeable.
41:32 that is not a fast travel pipe. Its a pipe that brings you back up to cut backtracking for the badge

@@TheKabuto90 I think I'd call it more of a shortcut pipe, since "fast travel" implies a large distance covered, usually from the overworld or another another location entirely

The only change I don't like is they changed the "End of Chapter" messaged to just say "Cleared" with every crystal star, idk why that bothers me but it does, otherwise 10/10 remake

The feelings you have for this game are the same I had for the SMRPG remake since I’m an old man, but it’s amazing to see both of these gems come back from the dead within like 6 months of each other.
I LOVE all the the new, unique animatioms when talking to wandering npcs. THE GAME IS JUST PERFECTION
The bandit at the beginning that steals your coins has a new sprite with his dialogue after you talk to him immediately after he gives your coins back.

mfw i found out it still only extends to 20 and is worth less than in the original game:
I noticed that it kinda feels like a LOT of the sound effects are a bit less impactful, especially in battle
I think this remake highlights just how amazing the sound design was in the original tbh

41:25 I just got to this point myself when you go down there is a pipe next to the badge which brings you back up to reduce backtracking! hope this helped!

In your honor, I did 30 levels of the pit immediately after Hooktail (gave up, did not really prepare at all), I just 1 turn killed the Shadow Sirens with Hammerman + Power Plus + Mega Rush + Mega Rush P equipped with Fire Drive + Power Shell. Hoping to get into challenge running in the remake, inspired by all your content the last few months!!

Oh No, Pre-Hooktail Pit is immensely harder now in remastered. I was playing through the Pit for Pre-Hooktail, with Koops in Peril. I got 99 Star Points, made sure Goombella was out for the next fight, and After the level up, Koops was fully healed too.
Yeah I tested that in boggly woods when I got Goombella into peril and leveled up with Koops out. My mind immediately went to how much harder managing your partners would be in the pit.
On the Flipside, it’s now easier to get partners into peril. You can let one die and they will recover up to 1 health at the end of battle, as long as Mario survives of course.
In the german version they also called the sound frog in the original game.
all i know is that the “cricket” fx badge doesn’t sound like any cricket i’ve ever heard. it does sound like a frog
Yeah that’s what it was in the beta for the GameCube release, but was changed in the final release for GameCube with a cricket, and now it’s brought back.
Funny how Hooktail offers a rare badge when it's her brother who has it.

At 13:51 Huh, so with the paper blocking the sewer, Fish Glitch to make Pre-Hooktail Pit easier is no longer possible.
There are cutscene skips but only for repeating cutscenes once youve watch them once, merlees fortune telling for example
They give you a lot of extra coins so you can easily buy Tiptron in the post-game
The interactive noose is a nice touch ngl

I recommend doing the pit again after defeating Bonetail.
For the record, the toning down the catcalls was not changed in the Japanese and the koop dad feet comment was in the OG in the Japanese as well.

The pre-Hooktail pit challenge might still be possible, but I did notice a change between the original and the remaster when you level up. In the original, only the party member you have out heals upon level up. The remake heals all party members.
That pipe is a fast travel pipe, a pipe from that badge down there lol.
Man this game takes me back it was one of my favorite games since childhood and still is now which is why I am glad they finally made a remake of it
They made it so when you level up, everyone gets their hp back, not just the front partner. I was trying to do pre hook tail pit, and leveled up with koops in front. I went to attack the next enemy with goombella, and realized her ho was at 20, not 1. This sucks for anyone trying to do pre hooktail pit.
Damn what an unfortunate change. Funny thing is I used to want this to be the default before learning about danger/peril strats and I was contemplating to do an early pit run on the remake.
Bringle, the floor is so shiny because it's supposed to look like it's made of foil or wrapping paper. They really upped the paper aesthetic (not to, y'know, CS/TOK levels but still).
tbh i REALLY hope any future games look more like this. i LOVE the upped paper asthetic that still doesn't rely so much on it being paper

I feel the reason coins are more plentiful to get now, is because, according to a screenshot I saw abit back of the remake, they increased the prices of some stuff, making getting more coins a way to balance it out

Well, I see your point in if they wanted the cat calling in the game as it’s appropriate or acceptable to do, but the main point from what I’ve seen is it really gets rid of goombella’s personality and self worth as a major individual character and woman independence as she does stand up for herself and gives a sense of self worth and appreciation.
@@KquarGaming Dupree seems to be unchanged which makes it seem more like nintendo just changed the goombas lines cause they felt like it
39:47 If you actually ride the block as it comes up you can use a well timed koops attack to line it up with the elevator button so when mario hits it he can go down and when you are done you release koops and he will hit the button for you. No backtracking required.

i’m sure you’ve seen it by now, but they have a badge you can get for 1 coin that’s 0 bp that lets you turn the music back to the og gamecube version (barring any new music like the Battle Master’s music)!

Just so you know, that pipe you saw in Hooktail’s Castle is connected to another pipe that was added next to the badge so you don’t have to walk all the way back after dropping down
Yoshi action commands are ZL and ZR I am pretty sure so you will need those buttons eventually

As someone who's played the original maybe a few dozen times, but certainly not every week, I also noticed the 30fps quite a bit during my first few hours. Hoping that it's something we'll get used to over time. For the few small bits of lost sauce, this game is seriously making up for it so far. Can't wait to play more
There may not be any cutscene skips in this game, but you ARE allowed to skip Zess T.'s cooking animation. You don't have to sit through that whole repeatable pseudo cutscene any time you want some cooking done
Resting at an Inn or the Glitz Pit beds is skippable too, as well as traveling on the blimp.
You might want to watch the cooking though, as each type of recipe has a different animation.
The shop in chapter 2 and the Easter egg is so cuuute

I tried doing a bit of the pit before Hooktail based on what your video showed, but they changed how the health refill works after level up. Even having Peril Koops not active, he was healed to full. Ended up just going to floor 20, possibly could have gotten farther,

I like the shiny ground, this is more realistic than "realistic" art since paper is pretty reflective depending on the sort of paper and what's it covered with
I think a mix of gloss, silk and matte paper finishes on floors would have been better. But I’m not bothered by it.
