  • This video series has USCF NM Bryan Tillis playing 3min games with brief analysis/post mortem. The challenge set for the video series was to only use Palm Beach Chess student openings to create quick and efficient instructive games. Many games from the 800 - 2200 rating jump were excluded when little instructional value could be obtained.

I was checking what the Old Indian Defense is, and came immediately to a Palm Beach Chess-video! Thanks Bryan! Do you think that 1…d6 against (almost) everything is a good approach to reduce theory and just get a playable game?

At around :40 you say something about "start playing faster - start playing better".
Now there are an awful lot of YT videos giving advice about playing better. The problem as I see it, is that all this advice involves thinking more, but thinking more takes time, and I have not found this advice very useful for playing faster. If anybody has any ideas or advice for playing faster I would really appreciate hearing such advice, because at the chess club I go to in Guatemala, once a week they have a 3-2 Blitz tournament, and during the week they often play Blitz 5-0 games. In these rapid chess games I almost always lose on time, even when I have much more material. Very frustrating.

In my case when playing games online I typically play pretty quickly, these videos make me play differently and more slowly as I am trying to add in commentary to keep it interesting to the viewers.
One way I would suggest to get stronger in playing 3-2 and 5: I suggest playing a large amount of 1min to develop a higher gear of speed. If you can play 1min games you always know that when you get under 1min in a longer time control you will be comfortable and play faster. Psychologically, you need to know when you get under a certain amount of time that is when you pick up the pace dramatically. This will help with the speed.
