You can fit none fire rated down lights in two storey house, it's classed as one fire compartment, if you had an integral garage with a room above and down lights were being installed in that ceiling then they would need to be fire rated, because that's another fire compartment.
Also building regs permit insulation to be removed for down lights, builders won't know that because they rely on the building inspector to tell them about building regulations, because they don't know them.

Those light fittings look fantastic. Perfect fix for my kitchen, no liveable space above and double boarded / floating. Will double check regs. Cheers guys!

Electricians need a webcam on site all the time to check on the builders / joiners / plasterers and that. Just get it to send a pic to us once and hour so we can phone them up and have the 'no, not like that. Have you been sniffing the plumbers solvent again?' talk 😁

Great video mate, when the roof is getting built, you should get in there and wire the lights from above, makes it much easier so you dont have to take all the cellotex out bud. Keep up with the great content!

i dont know what your worried about , looking at that PIR it isn't fitted correctly anyway they haven't closed the edges or fitted it tight enough so they are going to have leaks

CCT means "correlated colour temperature" which basically means you can switch the colour from say 2700k to 4800k

CCT = Correlated Colour Temperature, basically choosing which colour of white, from warm to cool white.
Personally I hate those led panel or round flat light as they don't last. Another alternative method to downlight is to put surface single spot.

  • @johnhoward2104

Remember that you don't need to bother with zones if you use cables with an earthed metallic covering (such as Ali-Guard).
