I had a guy ramming my front security door with his shopping cart full of trash. My parrot started yelling help and making an alarm sound. All his trash from his cart was on my porch and yard. Im disabled, it took me a bit to get to the door. I yelled I have a gun and on the phone with 911. When the cops came, we reviewed the video. It was my own schizophrenic addicted brother. 😢 The cops and neighbors helped clean the mess up. The neighbors took the cart. Now the cops check on me often. My brother cut my throat and stabbed me 30yrs ago. Pray for him please. Oh, it took my parrot a few days to stop guarding me. We have been bestfriends for 42yrs.

I don’t care how safe you think the town you live in is lock your freaking doors. I live in a small rural town in California and I’m home during the day all day and my doors are locked and I don’t answer my door to people I don’t know. That’s what’s great about the ring doorbell as you can talk to them from your phone.
I live in a small quiet town, other side of the country. I answer my door, to people I don't know, with gun in my hand either across my chest or down to my side... the Jehovah Witnesses stopped coming by.

Common sense isn't very common.
A lot of delivery wont even bother to knock and will just leave it, even grocery delivery will do this and I have had all my groceries stolen I know UPS does this and reason I don't order things off the internet plus I do not like putting my cc info out there. Dont get why it is so difficult for them to knock

The neighbor in Philly made me proud! I live in Philly too and I do the same thing when my neighbors packages get left at my house. Sometimes I even get their packages for them during the Christmas holidays while they are at work. The porch pirates be out there searching 💯

Concerning the package theives: my mother was bedridden n because of that she couldn't leave the house. Even when she was in a wheelchair I couldn't get her down the stairs. We live on a quiet cul-de-sac...our house is on the end. She went to a physical rehab to try to get some strength. This was the only rehab that I ever had experience that was nice. They were so nice that they even bought her a portable ramp that I could use to get her out of the house. My mom even cried because no one had ever done anything for us. We don't have fam...just me n her. It was delivered but very heavy so I was waiting til the man who mowed our lawn could move it for me. Before he could move it, someone came and stole it!!! They broke into my car and porch n took many containers of things that I was taking to storage. But, the ramp??? The ramp?? How rude!! We both just cried n cried. During this burglary, the burglar even knocked on our door!!! I didn't answer it. The police said they would have just asked a dumb quest like do u want ur driveway paved....or they would have killed us!! What this burglar did was to kill our only hope to get my mom out of the house. Transports to the Dr we paid for but they only would take u to the Dr. So til she passed away last year, we never got to go anywhere together....even before she was bedridden n was just in a wheelchair. 2014-2022 without being able to enjoy a diner, a movie, an antique shoe, etc. I hope that he or one of his loved ones find them in great need of a ramp or something but then knows what it feels like to never even get to use it😢

That's wildly irresponsible and dangerous, what if there was a fire? I took care of my dementia suffering mother who was physically combative and argumentative for 7 years straight with no help, this might be the second time I've ever mentioned it on any platform, I'm shocked you couldn't move a ramp but either way there are churches, senior outreach, adult services, social services etc....that can, will and do help in these matters, phone call away

We don't even have an upstairs. That, my dear, was your assumption. I am a teacher and a psychologist, but I quit my job to make zero income to take care of my mother. And, I would do it again. She wasn't going out of the house at that time so we could wait for the yardman to move the ramp. The stairs that I am talking about is actually one threshold step (which I can get her out of) and two steps off of the porch. If there was a fire, I would do whatever I could or just stay with her. She wasn't just my mother. She was my best friend n soul mate. Everyone used to think we were sisters. She was a nurse that had botched spine surgery when she was about 48. You would never see us without each other til she was totally wheelchair bound. And, for five of these years I also tended to my gmom who was very active til about 88. Then, she began to forget n became bedridden. Everyone who saw my mom n I together said that we reminded them of Thelma & Louise. I always told her that we will go over the cliff together. Unfortunately, we didn't. Your condemnation toward pple you do not know just shows the type of narcissist that you are! Now, I am a quiet loner with no fam. And, it is because of pple like u that I stay away from people altogether. There was no need for your attitude. You don't know our situation. If you were to talk to someone else like that especially when they are grieving intently, they could unalive themselves. You need to watch how u speak to others. That is all that I have to say. I could say a lot more, but I can already see that it's not worth my time. May God bless you and teach you how to treat other people. I know it's our own responsibility to take packages in as soon as possible, but I do think the delivery personnel could be more diligent about leaving them in full view of the street when better options are available. I have plants that hide the view of the porch from the street. Some delivery personnel place packages where they can't be seen, while others place packages in the doorway in full view of the street just inviting thieves to take them.
Only on request! The delivery people Do Just that! You can have Someone You know pick it up for you, or have it sent to a safe house!

Makes me happy I am in a low populated farm type area. In the past 12 years the only time we got a unexpected visitor was when some elderly woman came over on her riding mower looking around the property. Turns out she was just a neighbor with dementia that lived down the road. Since I have taken care of others with dementia before it didn't take long to realize she clearly had it or some other condition similar to it. Very friendly person, watched her drive home to make sure she made it back safely and later talked to someone living with her just to make sure they knew what happened so everyone stays safe.

I have a dog that would eat the person’s face off if someone tried to break in. He looks so sweet and cuddly but only towards people he has accepted into his circle. If they get past him then they have to deal with a second amendment issue.
My brother in law always tease me and my mom for having our doors locked 24/7. We live in a safe country so he thinks it's silly of us to lock our doors. Things still happen here, so why not try and prevent someone from just waking in the door. But he is a 2 meter long pretty buff man, and my mom lives alone and I am a woman living alone. Don't think he understand things that we have to worry about, but he don't. And my best friend was murdered in her home when she was home alone, she was 15 years old. So hell yeah I always keep my door locked.

I used to live in Lake Elsinore, Ca. Some dudes tried breaking into the pad through the back porch. They broke my sliding glass door but didn’t expect to be shot down with a 12 Gauge w/ 00 BUCK. I felt in fear of my life and fired to stop them. They were both armed and wearing hoodies, faces covered forced there way all the way into my living room, I killed one instantly and the other guy died on the way to the hospital. What pisses me off, nobody told me I had to clean up the mess . Renters ins took care of the sliding door. I was cleared in court but it took a minute.

My daughter just experienced a homeless lady try to open their door. They watched her sleep on their porch swing thru the night. The next morning my daughter told her she needed to move along. It took a while but after she left they went out on the porch and noticed she left a big pile of poo right next to their porch swing 🥴

Usually, rich people and those who have expensive items use strong and anti-theft doors to protect their property and life. Although professional and experienced thieves manage to open any door, it takes a lot of time and energy.
Most doors (even if locked) will come apart at the hinges if you lay on your back at the door and use both feet to kick the bottom of the door at the same time and even a strong door will break off its lower hinges. Armed home owners, ring doorbells, and yes security doors (that most people don't lock or a crowbar might work) might be the solution. Crime free for 10 years but in my oxy days... I am sorry.
