    Wow! My husband and I left in October 2020. I did a study last year on oath, swear,vow, and promise. I kept telling God I can’t leave because of the vow I made. God showed me Matt 5 too. Jesus says, but I say unto you swear not at all. The definition of swear has the word oath, promise, and vow in it. Also God showed me how Peter swore with an oath that he didn’t know Jesus. When he repented(wept bitterly) Jesus never excommunicated him. He stayed an apostle. God has forgiven me just like Saul/Paul, because he was ignorant, God forgave him. It blew me away. God so often showed us scripture for the questions we had. “Breaking the silence”, really helped us to. Love going to church where I can understand what’s being said. May God send another much needed “reformation” and revival amongst the Amish. I say that because I love my family and want them to know the truth.

      Unfortunately the translation is not right probably intentionally
      If we weren’t to swear at all we would be able to leave all promises money that we are banks things that we say we would do for one another banks could drop all promises to hold our money etc.
      The original Greek says not to swear “falsely”

    My son works for a wonderful Amish man. He is getting ready to leave the Amish church. He started reading his bible, praying with brothers and seeing the lies. He is in trouble with the Bishops and they are telling him he is going to go to hell. He has 12 children and his wife is not ready to leave. Please pray for him and for my son as Yah is using my son to walk along side Earl. Earl is searching for help and truth. Thank you for your videos as well. It is helping me to understand this situation. I believe Yah is bringing our families together.

    In 1988 Anna Marie and I sat for hours with 3 Amish Bishops discussing this very issue. We told them if this oath is to man then it becomes idolatrous because a vow made to man on our knees is a form of worship. All 3agreed with us that those vows have to be th Christ and His Church and not to the Amish Denomination.

      Im glad that there are several bishops who attested to the truth. The sad truth is that the majority of the ones, if they choose to stand for the truth are overhauled and persecuted until they either leave altogether or retract themselves from following what they know to be true. 😥
      Its similar in the way of the ordinances, I know people who are still Amish and choose not to follow some of the petty ordinances and they are being verbally punished in church and emotionally punished by members in their church.
      When people get tired of living under that kind of spiritual and emotional abuse, they most likely find the courage to leave eventually. This may not always be the case, but has been the case for many.

I asked him why he left the community and his answer is exactly what you have been talking about in your videos. He wants to serve Jesus and the Amish don’t do that. I never thought about any oath being a false oath. I'm so glad God revealed this to you. Thank you for sharing this with the world. I'm trying to soak it all in. I'm going to watch this again and this time, write things down so I don't forget! God bless you both for being open and led by the Holy Spirit. It's difficult when first leaving a cult to have complete faith in God and not have someone telling you every move to make. It takes a lifetime of adjusting and remembering to put God before man. That's what happens in cults; man is first and everyone is taught that man's rules are gospel. They're not! And I'm so glad I got out in 2011; it was one of the most difficult things I've ever done, but I had to completely leave in my mind, also. Some ppl physically leave, but their minds still believe that they're not doing the right thing. They usually end up going back. I no longer believe much of what I was taught for most of my life. Thank You, Jesus!

  • @heatherclayton-callaghan4270

    AMEN that is a powerful testimony!!! I'm not Amish but I love that you've shared not only the Amish oath but the conviction of being delivered .
    I hear the oath as being your promise to the amish Church to fulfil their commandments, NOT GODS, but with Gods help.
    Really that is all ways to Sunday messed up. It's like asking God to help you to do evil. !!!! Damn that's cursed.
    THANK GOD YOURE SET FREE HALLELUJAH AND AMEN.
    I often wondered how the amish managed to keep everyone in such perfect submission and present such a unified and perfect face to the world..... they control them all by fear. They must all be obedient to the church for fear of not doing it right and therefore not getting to heaven. WOW and to think everyone looks on the amish as so Godly and scriptural.
    Thankyou both for this revelation . Thank God you're both FREE now in Jesus Christ. 🙏💞

If the Lord opens a door and I know I am supposed to speak and I am aware and know that, I won’t hold back. My heart breaks for the broken ones. @@veldajean1 So glad to have learned of the Spirit's freeing intervention in your life. Hoping and praying you will continue thus in all matters. Understand that Truth has long been compromised. Like the Israelites before them, every church, every denomination have strayed farther from the Truth and lead by teachings of men. No different at all from Amish church under the radar here which keeps it's people subjected to it in a state of bondage. In fact, the very Bible is contrived so people are literally bound to it to the last letter so to speak unable to acknowledge there are more words of men in it than the Word of God! If only people would heed God who has all along exhorted, for eg., Isa 8:19b, "SHOULD NOT A PEOPLE INQUIRE OF THEIR GOD?" Likewise, Jn 6:45, Isa 54:13.. "ALL GOD'S PEOPLE WILL BE TAUGHT BY GOD ALONE."
      To add to your blessing and conviction, here's a special Gift God has entrusted to me for you (and of course to all who'd heed Him): It is called the God-ordained (hence absolutely fool-proof) method established since of old to help all genuine Truth-seekers to discern between the Infallible & Irrefutable Word of God and the Worthless & Futile words of men. Understand that: The Word of God is that which absolutely concurs with what God as the Father first spoke and revealed; then God as the Son reiterated, exemplified, fulfilled and taught; and finally, God as the Holy Spirit continues to remind and teach. All else are nothing but words of men - whether found within the Bible or outside of it. This is the reason the Word of God has revealed, there are only THREE VALID & CONCURRING WITNESSES - 1 Jn 5:7.
      So, start discerning between the Word of God and words of men. Heed & obey the former and absolutely shun & denounce the latter. And, most importantly, do not be afraid to forsake Babylon (Rev 17) who rides on the unmerited glory of the unworthy 'Beast' or the 'fallen man' (Rev 13:18, Ps 49:12..) and flee from her. Seek God and live! Refer Amos 5:4-6. God be with you.

    Thank you for sharing. This has helped me clarify and understand the guilt of breaking the oaths we make in ignorance. Leaving the Quakers meant I too in a less dramatic way was also breaking an oath, which in truth wasn't to God but to the Church. As if the Church membership was the only way to salvation, maybe! Now, I see that we must give ourselves completely and unconditionally to God and him alone. By repenting sincerely and with full realization of our sins, only He can forgive us and open the way to his love and his guidance to follow his truth. Only he can give us the strength to do so.

    I live in an Amish community in Paradise, Pennsylvania! My neighbors are Amish, conservative. But they welcomed me and husband completely. They love and respect us, and I can truly see that. I love their modesty and most of their values and hard work. It inspires me in so many ways! Yes, the only thing is their belief on salvation and certain legalistic rules. I understand most of it, but there’s some that I just can’t wrap my head around it. I can understand certain rules they have that would protect them from fall victim to the world, their flesh, and temptations! I do I really understand that if you have a vehicle that you’re not limited to where you go, there’s a lot of temptation in that. But you won’t go to hell if you drive, for me, I drive, but I limit myself where I go for gas etc... and I only use it for a need and once in a while to go to the beach. But other than that I limit myself. But driving is not a salvation issue. I just started my CZcams channel, it’ll all gonna be for women and it’s gonna be all biblical, and in context of Gods Word. I do believe KIng James Version Bible is the only Bible that we should read in English. 💜👍🏼 thank you for the video! I am a new subscriber! The mixture of truth and falsehood laid upon people who leave many sects brings fear, depression and loneliness but there is only one Name given among mankind whereby we can be saved. Even if they follow all the rules of the church and try to live the best life they can, theres no guarantee that they will go to heaven. They could go to hell. After taking an oath like that a person is living a life filled with fear and worry that they may go to hell.
    Because Jesus is lord and savior, when you repent and turn your life over to him, you will go to heaven because his love and forgiveness saves us from our sins. Jesus frees us and removes the heavy burden we are carrying.

Even the evangelicals (I was one) cling to their own set of traditions. Reading and studying scripture led me out of "the church". I embraced the true sabbath (7th day, not Sunday) and said "no more" to Easter and Christmas. The feasts outlined in Leviticus are so much more meaningful...and joyful!

    I know of no man made denomination that follows actual written scripture entirely. Not, baptists, or lutherans, or mennonites. Yet they ALL profess to. But... many people who join a man made denomination seem to get some satisfaction from it. I personally do not. I do go to a Mennonite fellowship church. But I refuse to join their brotherhood, because it is unscriptural. Scripture says there is one God, one baptism, one faith, one body of Christ. Every man made denomination, is an assembly who have chosen to separate from the one body, if they require you to be baptized into their group, and make you make a formal vow to them that you believe that their inflexible, unchanging beliefs are the absolute true understanding of scripture. And it'll be a cold day in hell before I take a vow to them. But I still go there. They probably think I'm crazy. And maybe I am. But I constantly point out to them scripture that they won't acknowledge. I'll tell you, they are stubbornly set in their beliefs, just like those from most denominations.

      Wow! There you are! And here I am praying everyday to meet people like you who are not afraid to acknowledge the Truth. Yes, Truth has long been compromised.

Your life will never be the same trust me I want to many many churches my god finally led me to the simple plan of salvation not made by John Calvin or John Wesley or by the Amish or by anybody else except the apostle Peter who preached a plan of salvation on the day of Pentecost. This video reminds me of Galatians where Paul teaches that the Law was a schoolmaster to lead people to Christ. I do not know if that is accurate, I wonder what the people in the video would say. Is the Law of the Judiasers in Galatians similar to the Ordnung (Amish oral Law)? I wonder, in your Amish experience, was the ordnung a tutor to lead you to faith in Christ? The implications are serious. The scriptures seem clear that justification is by faith alone. The key word is "alone." When the works of the Law are added to faith, then faith is not alone. What of your family and relatives? Do they know that faith cannot be mixed with works?
    This person, Velda Johnson and the narrator both speak of a struggle... the struggle of leaving a life regulated by the Laws of your Church. Have any Amish ever left the Church and its rules, come to faith, and then forsaken faith in Christ and returned to the Amish? How does that work? Or maybe some just leave the Amish and not come to faith in Christ alone and then return? Am I right in hearing echo's of Galatians 2:19 in what you say? Must you die to the ordnung to cling to Christ? By the way, I think I heard the narrator of the interview use the latin phrase sola scriptura (Scripture alone). I smiled and enjoyed that very much.
    One more question... The title "the amish potato''... is this a play on words for "mashed potato's?"

    • @theamishpotato
      @theamishpotato  Před 2 lety

      Amish very much remind me of the pharisees with their man made “law”

    • @veldajean1
      @veldajean1 Před 2 lety

      You asked a lot of thoughtful and good questions. When Paul referred to “the law as a schoolmaster to bring us “unto Christ” what was he essentially saying? I think he was saying that the law was intended to be a schoolmaster (meaning tutor of children) “unto Christ” or until Christ came. I am adding quotations because of the distinction with wording. The law NEVER leads us to Christ only faith in Christ leads us to Him. The word “unto” could be interpreted as until. So until Christ came the Israelites were given the law to keep them until faith came.
      If you look at prior verse it helps interpret what he meant. He talks about before faith came we were under the law. The law did not bring or lead anyone to Christ, it was because of sin that the law was given to the Israelites.
      In the same way the law reveals our sin but it can not save us from it. Only coming into faith in Christ are we saved and set free from our sins, which is why he says to continue to be under the law after Christ has come is to bring yourself under a curse. Your right, faith in this context cannot be mixed with dead works that come from being under and following the law.
      There is a place in James where James discusses faith without works being dead and he is not referring to our dead works from following the law but the good works that evolve out of that place of faith in Christ. Works that are propelled by Him not out of our own strength to seek salvation but works that reveal His character and the fruit of His work in us.
      The Amish ordnung is a law in itself and must be forsaken in order to fully come into faith in Christ. The reason one must forsake it is because it is intended to replace your faith in Christ and replace the sanctifying inner work of the Holy Spirit.
      Instead of relying on the Holy Spirit to sanctify us “(in Christ we become a new creation”)after coming to faith in Christ they rely on their rules to make them better people. People who strongly uphold the Amish ordnung are trusting in their own ability and their dead works to make themselves right with God in order to earn salvation. They don’t believe they can have any assurance of their salvation because no assurance can be found in dead works. A big part of coming to faith in Christ is repenting of our dead works.
      The struggle in leaving the Amish was multifaceted for me. I was not just leaving the laws and the church, but was leaving all that was familiar to me, including a community/family that was influential in forming a sense of identity and belonging. There was quite a bit of identity wrapped up in following the ordnung, and all the beliefs and mindsets that came with being Amish.
      So much of my personhood was formed inside that way of life, that upon leaving, for a time, it caused a bit of an identity crisis, until I found my way. I would never go back and I never regretted my decision to leave. I grieved many of the losses that came with my decision but so much more has been restored to my life than I could have ever imagined.

    It would seem to me that the oath nullifies itself. You promise to uphold the Amish ordinances according to Christ’s teachings. It is my understanding that these ordinances are man made rules. Jesus didn’t teach the ordinances. Therefore you can’t uphold them.

    • @veldajean1
      @veldajean1 Před 3 lety +4

      You are correct. I was taught that the ordinances were given to us by the Lord, and by keeping them I was upholding Christ's Word and teachings. This was why I broke it down like I did, bringing attention to the difference, and the fact that they are NOT one and the same. This is actually the part that had me pretty tangled up in the beginning and I remember the liberation that came just from being able to identify the difference. I was also told I was breaking a promise to God when I left. After I discovered the truth, it would seem to me that this is a tool that is being used to spiritually manipulate people to keep them from leaving, but the Lord is still actively in the business of setting captives free. ❤

    Any form of Extremeism is dangerous. Any group that forces a person to think, speak and live under duress of being excommunicated or shunned is not of God. Even the language used is so punitive (ie: convicted). This goes COMPLETELY against the primary tenets of Christ's teachings to "Love one another as I have loved you"; "Do all things in Love"; to be in the World, helping the poor, the oppressed and the marginalized. "Whatsoever you do to the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you do unto me" Matthew: 25. The Amish and many other religious groups make it difficult to leave because they deny their children a real Education, so that finding employment and a career is next to impossible. Being held in a community under pain of eternal hellfire sounds pretty Cult-like.

    Joining church is like getting married. Love is blind. Even if someone would sit down with a young teenager and tell him about what it is like be married to one person for 50 years, words would never suffice. Young Amish people are exposed to truths and promises made for many years before taking this step. The promises are only made upon the basis of a persons personal acknowledgement of belief(ignorance). (Auf "dienem glauben" wast du getauft in name da vaters das sonnes und das heilige geist.)** ( Not based upon "THE AMISH BELIEF"/FAITH Each person has a personal choice as to weather how much attention he pays to the sermons for previous 10 years. This attention span is personal and also voluntary. If you dig much deeper, the oath taken is not the oath you think you took. The basis is your personal belief(NOT THE Christian FAITH) and not upon truth or falsehood. The basis is not even based upon the collective beliefs. I do not know of anyone that has been coerced into baptism.
    ** Upon the acknowledgement of your personal beliefs, you are baptised in the name of the father, son, and holy ghost. Study the word "belief" in context to understand, know and comprehend. It is just as easy to believe a lie as it is to believe the truth. The difference to believing the truth vs knowing the truth is "proof" The bible says prove all things. "To believe" is to have a confidence towards something and is without proof. All Amish students take classes in Spelling, vocabulary, reading. writing, and English. (others too)
    If you compare what is preached in PA Dutch to what is taught in the set of language skills in school, you will find you attention span is far below a 65.
    I personally asked these questions to a minister outside of the district I was baptised in. I can say I was satisfied with his answers. You guys could have done the same.
    I do not want to be harsh or anything, for I too am on a computer.😉

    As a Pauline bible believer, I know the body of Christ today finds its instructions in Paul's epistles. Paul tells us he is our pattern as He followed Christ, I Timothy 1:15-16 KJV: "This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting." Paul never one time talks about making oaths. We are NOT under the OT law is what Paul tells us over and over again. II Timothy 3:16 KJV tells us, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:," but NOT all scripture is addressed TO us in the body of Christ today. We learn from all scripture, it's all good, but we cannot apply all scripture TO us personally. Once you grasp that concept, your understanding of scripture will increase. This list of "contradictory" bible verses (all true) should be helpful to see what I'm saying: graceambassadors.com/midacts/bible-contradictions
