Kowalski is freedom in it's purest sense, He can't live in this world anymore, That smile on his face at the end is the greatest look and a message to us all.
LOL Except there is no such thing as "freedom" in this cruel world of ours. Seems to me like, inside, he just couldn't take living on this planet anymore, just as you said.
She's actually the Angel of Death. He wakes up in the morning and she's gone. This scene was in the British release but cut from the US version at the last minute ... ... Which was embarrassing because US posters had already been printed up with Charlotte Rampling's name on them.

Damn.... this is such a great scene with all kinds of emotional connection and feeling. The delivery of lines and music gives you all kinds of feelings. I wonder why it was left out....
I've seen this film dozens of times, over the decades, it's one of my favourite films. This deleted clip is the first time I've seen it. It's definitely not in the UK version. I've just finished watching it on TV again and came on here to listen to the song, playing up to the crash. That scene and with the song too, never fails to bring a tear to my eye.
I think the director of the movie said that kowalski wasnt stopped by the bulldozers as he was aiming for the spot in the middle which was clear, very deep
I've waited patiently to see this "hitchiker" scene. I never believed Kowalski committed suicide. He didn't crash, he exploded. Cars don't explode unless you want them to. Some explosions are gates through time. I should know. I'm the geister fahrer.♥️😎

He lived through death. “What’s in San Francisco?” “It’s home.” Vera… Vera died off the coast of San Francisco. The Vanishing Point between the dozers was the gateway to California. The gateway home. The gateway to Vera.
As stated in an interview with Barry Newman and the director, the mysterious stranger was an allegorical figure personifying death. This scene was removed from the final American version because the studio was afraid that the audience would not understand it. But this scene remained in the English version.

The hit was so intense to the point where the challenger turned into a camaro!
No point in wasting a perfectly good Dodge Challenger!
Saw this when I was a kid in burbank Cornell theater. I had a Cuda.
what year was the cuda?
What a beautiful song. Lots of mystery in these scene

glad this was deleted; it makes the movie and the scene even more exclusive; only real fans had to search for that one !
the d.j. is Kowalski s guardian angel ...but even they can only do so much .note the intense light of the barricade
Cleavon Little was sensational in Vanishing Point

Nothing like bringing out the old folks and kiddies for Sunday morning entertainment.
Thanks, that saved me a couple of hours.
Thanks!

I'm not religious but I can appreciate symbolism done right, also the version I watched had the angel of death scene In It.
There's a lot of Symbolism in this scene, notice the focus on her pearl ring ?Look it up.
What's that supposed to mean?

BEHIND THOSE DOZER BLADES WAS A BRIGHT LIGHT . KOWALSKI SAW THE LIGHT.
Why did he end it tho?
