    Video tribute for Vanishing Point. I had to re-arrange the scenes to fit in with the music. Super Soul's big speech about the Last American Hero is a third of the way through the movie, but is at the end of the song, so it was impossible to follow a linear timeline.

      Why a contract wasn't put out on the lame asses who totally ruined that movie in the fucking 90s is a mystery to me.

    I went on a soul-searching trip by myself this fall. I drove all through the desert southwest. On a lonely highway in Arizona a white Challenger appeared behind me. He followed me for several miles. I got a really good photo of my rearview mirror with the Challenger there. Then it disappeared without a trace. I never saw him pull off. It was just gone like a ghost. It really put a smile on my face. I'll always have that photo that I named Kowalski.

    • @RexApplegate
      @RexApplegate Před 3 lety +19

      I was on the way to SF in 2018 on I40 or maybe 15 and a newer Challenger suddenly appeared behind me as I was passing slower traffic in my BRZ, waited for me to go by, not riding up my ass but patiently followed, and as soon as I was over put the pedal down and was out of sight in a few seconds. I immediately thought of Kowalski, and wished for them a safe journey. A highlight to my heavenly run from Tucson.
      Arizona and rural southern California are among the best motorsport playgrounds on earth, and I just love that there is plenty of room to be gentlemanly about it.

      Next time you head that way, be sure to get on the 50 in northeast Nevada. Dubbed the "Loneliest Road in America" and you'll go right through Austin, NV where the scene at 3:43 was shot. The church and most of the buildings are still there. They are well aware of their cult status too. The only gas station in town has a white Challenger painted on their pump and on the burger cart that is parked there.

    Even though it was released in 1971. 'Vanishing Point', in addition to being a flat out awesome car movie, was also a microcosm of the social issues and problems of the 60s in America. Civil rights, racial equality, the Vietnam war, a general distrust of the government and anyone who worked for "the man". Seeing this is also going back and revisiting a unique time in Americas history.

      @@z512345 ... Bullitt is iconic because of the star of the movie, Mr. Cool.
      Vanishing Point is iconic because of the story. Kowalski was anonymous at the outset and the drive carried his story to the audience, letting us learn the singular incidents that finally added up to a very tired man releasing his grip on futility. I'd speculate that many of us would wish to be able to choose the time and method of our exit. Kowalski's was spectacular and depressing in its finality. We had already seen him escape the bulldozers. I expected him to make the same escape toward the end. It brought me to tears then. It's the same now.

    Thank's
    dsnitris2007, you brought me right back to "the good ol days" I saw this movie at the Starlight Drive-in, my introduction to muscle car's and one of the coolest Mopar's, I'll never forget the pistol grip shifter, I don't remember if it had a Hemi or a 440 six-pack believe this or not in those days muscle cars of all types were practically being given away because of the gas crisis, I bought a '69 Chevelle SS 396 for $1000, it had just been painted with white house paint, didn't run, tore it down, checked the #'s and it was a fully loaded sans air, 396-375hp L-78, muncie m-22 rock crusher, 4.11 Dana, huge disc brakes, Lord I miss that car.

      Glad you liked it. I was only a little guy during the muscle car era, but I remember seeing beautiful cars everywhere you looked. Chargers, GTOs, Chevelles, Barracudas, Mustangs, Camaros and Firebirds, Cyclones and Javelins. Hell, even Oldsmobile had a muscle car. But what's around when I was old enough to drive? K-Cars. Most high-school kids had old muscle
      cars that were 10-15 years old.
