Monica... Me too. Hes so special. I literally grew up on Elton John. I was born in 65 so I think your song was his 1st hit in 69. My favorite when I was a kid was goodbye yellowbrick road. Every yezr til 2001 or 2002 there were Sir Elton hits. Him and R.E.M are my happy groups. When I would be down or sad I always listened to Elton. But I have listened to him almost everyday since I was 10 I know. I went to his farewell concert in Pennsylvania. I cried so hard. Just knowing someone so special is getting older and retiring. It was a magical night. Everytime he had came any where near where I was living in concert it would sell out before I could get a ticket. so a couple Sundays ago I told my huzband we were gonna make a pack that the next time he came in concert we were going we shook hands. A few minutes later my husband says hes here Im like who Elton John and there are 4 tickets left. and it was his farewell tour I had no idea he was retiring. It was fantasic. Ive been to a million heavy metal concerts alternative country even Elvis Presley twice. But nothing compared to Elton John. Such a true artist and special human being!!

The fact that "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" wasn't even in the honorable mentions much less on the list is a crime. Quite possibly the most epic and at the same time most personal of all of his hits.

Elton John's a weird artist in that many of my favorite of his songs are virtually unheard of-- All the Young Girls Love Alice, Tower of Babel, Hercules... the list goes on. He really rewards people who get to know his full albums well and don't just content themselves with a greatest hits collection.

Elton will go down in the music history books as one of the most brilliant singers/songwriters and pianists. Unfortunately, today, there is so much throw away music. Even Elton's flamboyant costumes are unique (him) and are unmatched. Not all of the songs mentioned in the top 10 are mine, but I can't believe "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" wasn't even mentioned. That song is in my top 10.
Elton has had such a diverse career I tend to compartmentalize his work. Can You Feel the Love Tonight is good and nostalgic, but along with some other picks here, it doesn't quite stack up to his early '70s work like Mona Lisas and Mad Matters, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, etc. Unlike the Bowie list, this one definitely seems to factor in the commercial appeal a bit more.
Good list. Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding is my favorite song, not just by Elton John, but by anyone.

It wasn't until the Rocketman movie did I realize that Elton's songs have been the soundtrack to my life. I can't think of a time that he hasn't been a part of my life. My parents loved playing his music as well and we almost always had the oldies station on in the car. I couldn't have wished for a better artist to do the same.
I hope that 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' is on this list. (Written before listening to the whole list).

I bought this album when I was 17yo. I was the only black person in my neighborhood in Love with Elton John, Three Dog Night, Rod Stewart, The Stones, all , Classical music. I mostly listen to the so-call white station. I just Loved good music. I felt others had an extremely narrow view on many things at seventeen and still do today on all sides. One is a alonely number. Show no fear, rise above you'll see clear. Peace&LoveHumanity.

I wouldn't say I'm any huge Elton fan, but I do appreciate that he has some excellent talent. That said, I'd go with Rocket Man for #1.

Devin McCreery For me, everything up to "Rock Of The Westies". When he reunited with Taupin and went back to his old "sound" with "Made In England", the music got a lot better.
+Hotrodelectric Taupin ahs been involved on almost all his albums; it was just a gap in the late 70s-early 80s. But yes, Made in England was fine and it has improved again this millennium.

I know it's not one of his big hits but one of my favorites is Roy Rogers from the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Album. I've owned the 8-track and the CD and another The Ballad of Danny Bailey from that from the same album. SO many more of his songs that I love. My favorite artist of all time. I saw him in concert in Bangor, Maine, a place most of you have never heard of.
