Beethoven is my favorite human being ever. Sorry mom.
For MY mom, Beethoven is her fav human being, too - so she would agree anyway xD
villebooks
I like your mom already...
But seriously, if you took him out of history (time machine gone wrong), where would music be? You could have an argument with Bach or Handel also. Actually, even your mother may have a butterfly effect that we can’t appreciate at this point in time.
También es uno de mis humanos favoritos.
Thanks!
The 32,765 th note was a bit rushed, I think, but other than that perfect.
+Thomas Gill yeah that note he didn't breathe in correctly and lifted his shoulder a little bit while looking at his left hand instead of his right
+Roger H aaaaaand the joke's dead
FollettGah Music nah I made it actually funny .. cuz yours is really played out
Wasn't it note 27,476?
LOL!!!!
Probably one of the best performances of Beethoven's 14th Piano Sonata that I have ever heard.
Barenboim seems to have a special relationship with Beethoven
+TheBrandon425 So do Millions of us normal Folk ?
+Kevin E ???
I have been a great admirer of Maestro Barenboim since I was very young. Contrary to what many tend to believe, I think he is a very sensitive person given the fact that he plays with his soul and speak straight from the heart -- As soon as he touches the first key of any piece he plays by any composer, he unveils his sentiments of who he really is. Though I had the privilege to hear many great performances by other great artists, I am eternally grateful to have known those of Maestro Barenboim. He is an icon. Thank you Maestro Barenboim for such great achievement.
Man, that ads in the middle of the secondo movement is a crime against humanity
ah you are so right!
Agree
Capitalism in a nutshell
Best version on youtube. You have my thanks
I prefer Valentina Lisitsa for this particular piece.
@@stevebbuk nah. She played too fast and no emotion. Imo
@@ejmtv3 Partly true. For me Maria Donska was the queen, though I have lost the only record I had (the old 33) and can't seem to find a replacement.
That slow tempo shows the great melancholic and painful atmosphere of this first movement.
Bravo Barenboim!
I can't believe that there are people actually criticizing this wonderful interpretation! Daniel Barenboim gives Beethoven his own special touch! I love this video!
+suegha Those are the snobs for ya....lol
That's natural. If even god is criticized by many then why can't he??? Besides, lots of critics are good.
as i heard it the first time, i was nearly breathless... its about the feeling. ive never heard another version that was played as sensitive as this! damt...
Then let it be! Critics are just folks who can't play it 'their way' themselves. It is always easier to tear down a building than build one. I like this one, too! Each to their own and own to their each!
suegha I know!
Mr. Barenboim was one of the first classical musicians I heard in concert. He was playing with Itzhak Perlman. It was glorious. He's still glorious.
Have always enjoyed listening to Barenboim's presto agitato of this sonata in recordings. So passionate. It's as if his soul is entirely consumed by channeling the deepest interpretation of Beethoven. Top tier rendering of all movements in this ideal performance of the Moonlight Sonata. Barenboim really raised the standard.
+Dex F I agree with you so much!
one of the best versions - a lot of players tend to play the 1st movement too fast, this is near perfect ! What an unbelievable piece of art - has lost absolutely nothing of its power over the years - still one of the most heart-wrenching pieces of all time !
DrFaustus His third movement is waay too fast though
It would be cool if Beethoven could somehow know in 2015, people would still love his creations, that people will catch one of his compositions on the radio on the way to something (in a car!) and wait til it's done because it's just too beautiful to turn off...
DrFaustus How possibly can you be saying this? Beethoven wrote this as Adagio, so played in 4/4 signature would be slow (to me it sounds below 60bpm), but acceptable. However, the composer also noted Alla Breve, i.e. the time signature is changing to 2/2, so you have two beats per bar (you count every two triplets). If Adagio is 65-70 bpm, he's playing around 20-25 then. Completely not how Beethoven wanted it...
Adrian Krajewski Brilliant analysis. However I'm not one of those who think the composer necessarily has the final word on it. When you hear Rachmaninov's recordings of his own works, they don't particularly stand out as the best versions. Music evolves beyond a composer's indications. So does our own perception of music. I would say this version suits my needs and is good enough to make me feel what Beethoven had to say.
Adrian Krajewski The beauty of music is that it travels through other people's life experiences, and it so happens that some of these people are unbelievable musicians who breathe new meanings to the songs.
I would sell my nuts to hear LVB play this on a piano, but the next best thing IMO is this very interpretation.
Watch the third movement...
1st Movement: 0:21
2nd Movement: 7:04
3rd Movement: 9:20
;)
I did... What were you referring to?
Watching it reminds me of this genius comment I read on another video with Barenboim: "he isn't a very good pianist because he lacks speed".
To me, what he plays lacks nothing.
This is my favorite version. It conjures feelings from heavenly to heartbreaking... perhaps a lot like being in love.

Magnifica interpretación de la "Moonlight Sonata" de Beethoven
I totally agree......^^
Ever since I was a kid I've always favoured Barenboim's interpretation of the Moonlight Sonata. His 3rd movement gushes like a river in flood. It's entrancing.
Bravo! This is how it should be played!!
The best version of Moonlight Sonata that exist !
@JianCai_Beeth
I play Beethoven better than this guy.
But this is not bonafide evidence. I am looking steinway d 274 to play.
D 274 is very expensive. Move fee is 1500 c$, tune 500 c$, 2 weeks rent fee is 9000 c$.
@@jiancai_nocturnethis Guy? Its Barenboim.
@@fabianhorvath3302 it's the Internet
My God, the first movement in this version, along with the wonderful decision of that camera traveling in, chills.
One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written!
Every time i listen to this piece my soul burst in tears... there will never be a soul as passionate and creative as Beethoven´s.
Beautifully performed by Barenboim
Magistral maestro Barenboim. Bravoooooo
9:21 goosebumps :ON
Late yesterday afternoon I heard a pianist Edna Stern wearing a striking red dress on a shining Steinway the Pathetique and Appassionata sonatas along with works by composers Karel Reiner and Gideon Klein. I just had to listen to the Moonlight. I am blessed to be surrounded by so much beautiful and demanding music.
There are quite a few pianists I love. Barenboim is one of them. To me (because it is a subjective experience) he is really all about the music. I can tell, by listening, that he loves it and does his utmost to do it justice. I feel safe with him, I can really delve into the piece, because I will never encounter anything off or odd, when he plays.
and this is why he is my favorite interpreter of Beethoven, up there with Kempff
It is fantastic. Ethereal and meaningful.
Extraordinario Baremboin tocando a Beethoven. Un regalo, gracias!!!!
The most perfect performance of Moonlight Sonata I have ever heard. John
A very, very standard performance. Performed just like what Beethoven wrote on the original score. Absolutely Beautiful.
Who could press "thumbs down" to this piece of audible beauty? For shame. Its is 4:03 am. And I could imagine NOTHING better as I await my slumber.
Really wonderful, but not for waiting one`s slumber, a bit too energetic in the second half to my mind :) Andy Williams is perfect for that purpose. e.g. his "A Summer Place" :)
03:06 am here!
Bravo! Bestial! Indescriptible.
Always it is a pleasure to listen Barenboim!
What an amazing pianist!!!
barenboim and brendel , perfection in this world
I just love this piece. Thanks for sharing.
my favourite you cant beat this moody piece.xx
Amazing performance! A perfect one, no doubt. Barenboim's and Andras Schiff's interpretations of Beethoven are, of course, the best ones in the World!
Awesome and humbling to see a master so skillfully perform such a magnificent composition, thankyou !
Ich finde das Tempo einfach unglaublich schön. Sehr berührend und tief empfunden.❤❤❤
Bravo!!! Absolutely gorgeous!
Best version I've ever heard, and to my knowledge more than correct. Thank you for putting it on
Lovely performance. Thanks for uploading!
A real moment of pleasure , it's a great joy to listen you .
Fascinating to compare this with more recent performances by Maestro Barenboim, to see how his interpretation has changed.
Excelente Barenboim!! Me encantó
Sublime y profunda interpretación del maestro Barenboim.Excelente.
MARAVILHOSO TALENTO
Beautiful playing.
Amazing technic. Best Beethoven pianist.
Bravo maestro Barenboim! I love 3rd movement of Barenboim.

Happy birthday Maestro
Thank you for the incredible music always.
Absolutely beautiful
1st movement is superbly timed and played. Superbly.
Thankyou.A beautiful piece.
Marvelous just marvelous!
❤formidable! beautyful! thank you!
Beautiful music on the piano 🎶🎶😍😍
Music resonates differently with different people, that why some (though I don't get it personally) like Justin Bieber. Personally, I always like a slow, ethereal touch to the first movement of this donate so I enjoyed this version. I will have to listen to Gould's version as well now. He didn't like Mozart? What a relief to learn I'm not the only one. I normally get royally flamed for preferring the beautiful depths, heights and sparkle that make Beethoven's music so breathtaking.
Don't know why my auto spell changed sonata into donate. Apologies about that.
Because your auto spell is still stupid and has
never heard of a sonata!
please could you delete your comment or edit it so his name doesnt ruin the page
Mozart is totally different, and I can understand why do you prefer Beethoven's deep music, I also feel the same, but Mozart really knew how to make beautiful and delicate sounds at the same time that, sometimes, he knew how use his deepest feelings on his compositions, like the second movement of Piano Concerto No. 23.
the best version around! thank you
So Beautiful
Outstanding!
OMG!!!!!!!!! I can't even imagine playing that fast! well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Incredibly beautiful rendition , I'm speechless.
Why can't we like a video more than once? Superb...
I have been listening to CD version of this performance since the 1990's. There are many good versions of Moonlight Sonata out there, but this one is surely special :-) Thanks for posting.
The exact tempo. Bravo Maestro!
well maybe it wasnt meant to be played that slow..., but in my ears this is the most powerful rendition of the first movement ive heard.
Touch of reverb going on from the room that perfectly enhances this rendition.
Beautiful thank you!
Wonderful !
me conmovio muchisimo,me encanta !!!!!!!
I love this music...
LA COSA RARA IN QUESTA INTERPRETAZIONE E L'ATTMOSFERA CHE CREA DAL INIZIO ALLA FINE PIù L'ESECUZIONE.........BELLISSIMO......

Dear Henriette, grazie, grazie molto! Si - e bellissimo! Francesca.
beautiful...thankyou.
It is beautiful!!!!!
Imagine having a piano room like this ! *-*
+Minimollii It would be nice! But i would prefere to could play as wel as him! Barenboim is my favorite pianist! He makes piano sounds beter!
BRAVISSIMI, MAESTRI!
Beautifully interpreted. I agree with Lyndale Oliver-Musto (below) that the Moonlight Sonata should be played more slowly as interpreted by Barenboim. It is more peaceful as the stillness of the moonlight suggests. He appears the youngest in this video than I have seen here on CZcams.
This is awe inspiring. I'm not a pianist, but the 3rd movement didn't sound amazingly tight.
I think so too
I also think the recording may have skewed the sound of the third movement a little bit
It was a little rushed at parts. The 1st movement is mind blowing though.
Wow... This is so moving...
maravilloso!
I am tearful right now...wow....
Pure epicness!
único....único....único...genio total
perfect everything
awesome!
I like the first part. I make me see the moon light that looks soft and bright at night. Wonderful!
The name moonlight is utter nonsense. It was given to this sonata roughly 20 years after Beethoven ' s death.
it might sound nonsense to someone.
Anyway, we all have different tastes. One song doesn't make everyone feel the same.
Moonlight for me is just imagination for this song not because it is its name.
It`s not a song m8. And Beethoven is about playing it how the composer intended it not how you want to interpret it. You see, Beethoven made strict markings on exactly how fast, loud or dynamic the piece has to be played on as much as every piece he wrote. Beethoven had a certain idea while composing this and it certainly was not moonlight.
that is how the player plays as you claimed but I am a listener. Can't I have my own imagination while I am listening to some songs? Are you mad at me because I expressed my feeling to this song? I am not an expert just a person who wants to enjoy the song. if you want to tell me the history of the song. I appreciate but what's wrong the way I like the song?
The mystery is that it's not Beethoven who called it Moonlight Sonata. Who? Barenboim is the best performer of this master piece.
Ludwig Rellstab, a german poet, named it like that. It's a profond misinterpretation anyway. It's not dreamy. It is deeply sad and desperate. The first movement is actually a funeral march. Beethoven didn't name it at first, then he named it "quasi fantasia for clavecin or piano forte". But a lot of mysteries remain about this sonata...
AMAZING! i hope i can that good at it one day
What a thrilling performance
Wonderful
