World War 1 only took place in order to destroy the Ottoman empire ( the caliphate ). Good old divide and conquer tactics were put in place to turn the Arab empire against the Ottomans. End of the caliphate.

The Ottoman Empire reached its peak during the reign of Sultan Selim I (1512-1520) and Suleiman I (1520-1566). The Ottoman Empire's glory lasted for nearly 600 years, from the early 1300s until after World War I.
One of the greatest achievements of the Ottomans was the conquest of Constantinople in 1453, which was then the capital of the Byzantine Empire. After the conquest, Constantinople was renamed Istanbul and became the capital of the Ottoman Empire.
On January 16, 1878, Russian forces defeated the Ottoman Empire's forces in the Sanjak of Filibe, Edirne, which is now Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

The Arabs as well as young Turk's betrayed ottoman empire,it all started and ended in Anatolia.
The last legitimate Khalifa was Sultan Abdul Hamid (II). He was the one who protected Jerusalem for decades from the British/Zionists.
Turk Sultan Salim 1 abolished Khilafat in 1517 when he captured Egypt and holy land and took Abbasi Khalifa with him to Istanbul. Some historians say Salim executed the Khalifa but others say that Khalifa himself surrendered his title. Turks rulers kept their tiles Sultan until first world war broke out and they feared to lose umpire and they started using both titles Sultan and Khalifa. However, its worth mentioning that after abolishing the Khalifa they abandoned true teachings of Islam and started fighting to gain power and control of the world. They probably executed the Khalifa and his entire family which was taken to Turkey by Salim 1 as we don't find traces of the Abbasid family in Turkey. Very sad indeed.

That’s like me saying the Christian leaders in Christian countries are fighting over who gets to be the leader in the countries somehow has something to do with Christianity it doesn’t.

I am from Kenya. My grandparents came from India because the British need labor in Kenya. I grew up in the 60s and in my History classes we had learnt that it was the Omani Arabs who were taking slaves from the east coast of Africa to Arabia. This was long before the Europeans had good ships to venture out into the vast oceans. Slavery, in various forms or fashions has existed in the Arab world for the last 2000 years as it still does. It therefore would be wrong to just blame the Europeans for slavery. The Europeans, despite all their looting and cruelty, have, at least on paper, abolished slavery

Very well put together. I found it informative, although not in-depth enough to cover Muslim presence further into Africa or the involvement of the Moors in Andalusia. None the less it was, good viewing and captured the internal political-religious dynamics within the faith brilliantly. What it showed was, just how much being a Muslim, is dependent on what you know and how you feel about what you know.

Great Documentary, As a Christian, I am happy we have a central figure in the Pope, I hope one day Turkey will again lead Islam and put an end to the chaos which exists. Only the Turks can counter this crazy narrative coming out of Saudi Arabia.

After watching this series, it becomes clear that politics is the dominant force. It was not about religion, it was all about power of few men and their desire to control people.

A good quality and dramatic series of documentary.. By the way Selahaddin was a Kurdish, but at that time rather than nationality the religion was important.

Aljazeera please make a documentary on how and why the Europeans conquered and colonized Africa and America..........from my research, the europeans first went to Africa and to America looking for food, but the kings of Africa started trading their brothers to the europeans in exchange of guns so that the african leaders could extend their territories....the slavery statrted at this point...
