    Commencal may not like this but I took my meta tr and bought the sx linkage, 27.5 rear wheel, 170mm fox 36 air spring, and 230x65 rear shock. Put it all on the tr and the geo came out identical to the sx but I kept the shorter chainstay length that the tr comes with.

      I thought about putting a 230x65 and a 27.5 wheel on my TR before the SX ever came out. I never did it though. After some measurements, it looked like the chainstay would hit the cranks on top out. I'm guessing it doesn't do that with the newer rocker and clevis? Maybe you can DM me on my Insta and send some pics? I'd love to see some close ups of your mod. I love my bike, but some more travel would really help at bike parks.

    I bought the team model recently and the brakes were TRP (awesome) and no matchmaker for the dropper. I think it climbs great, traction for days. And descends like a beast. I find it to be really nimble through the corners as well. The trails here in Aus are probably a bit more wide open but really rate it. For the flatter terrain adjust the geo to the high setting and it performs really well. The only gripe I had with the longer chainstay was it took more effort to try and get it up for a wheelie. Great bike Commencal

    It’d be interesting to see the current crop of enduro bikes compared to some from the 2020 field test. I think bringing the Specialized Enduro in as it hasn’t changed much since would be interesting, as well as giving the 2020 GT Force 29 another go, seeing as the expert model is rocking SRAM Code R’s instead of G2 RSC’s, a Fox Performance 38 and a Performance Elite DPX2 instead of the performance elite x2 and 36 of the old pro model. I feel like it would stack up more favorably than it did in 2020. Also it would be interesting to see how a $3800 bike like the Force Expert would stack up against something like that Santa Cruz Megatower.

  • @TeamCykelhold
    @TeamCykelhold Před rokem +22

    The bike industry has been sizing up for the last 5 years. Testers can then feel the bikes are very big. Maybe just size a bit down when you choose the bike and it's not a problem any more? This seems to be a review of a size of the bike rather than of the bike itself.

    • @mrvwbug4423
      @mrvwbug4423 Před rokem +3

      Yeah, I demoed this bike back in May and opted to size down when I looked at the spec sheet, and it didn't feel like a barge at all. The size M is also roughly the same reach and riding position as my current bike so felt almost familiar. Definitely consider sizing down on this bike if you're interested in it.

    • @devinbyrnes8058
      @devinbyrnes8058 Před rokem +1

      That makes sense. A while back I remember them saying they get the bike size recommended by the manufacturer for their height. So basically, if that is out of whack, the review will suffer. They think that is reasonable since that is how many consumers will shop.

    • @TeamCykelhold
      @TeamCykelhold Před rokem +1

      @@devinbyrnes8058 Still, when the review mostly focuses on size, you know something is off. Pros have also begun to size down (actually they just keep the reach numbers they prefer while manufacturers put an M on a previous L). Look at Richie Rudes Yeti size M even though he is 182. He is firmly in L if you look on their size chart.

    • @devinbyrnes8058
      @devinbyrnes8058 Před rokem

      @@TeamCykelhold I agree with you 100%. I sized down because the new bike I bought in L was almost exactly the same géo as the previous years M. However, if Pinkbike is going to cater to newer riders, who often buy based on companies sizing charts, then this is fair. Pinkbike is getting in the bike size the manufacturer said you fit them. Don’t blame Pinkbike if the manufacturer has a trash size recommendation.

    • @TeamCykelhold
      @TeamCykelhold Před rokem +3

      @@devinbyrnes8058 Yeah it makes sense that pinkbike test the bike they get recommended size - absolutely! But why not talk about the elephant in the room then? Instead of saying the bike feels big, talk about the ridiculous size charts and review the bike for it's suspension kinematics and components. I can't really use a review that focuses on size for anything - that's my problem with this review. I have no idea if the bike is good or not.

    I considered buying this bike as the replacement for my Enduro bike couple of months back. Coming from a mullet I was happy with staying on the mixed wheel set up. However, the long chainstays was a deal breaker for me. At the time, I assume the bike was going to feel a bit dead or not in line with my riding style. I'm glad I was correct on these assumptions.

  • @David_Mudsurfer
    @David_Mudsurfer Před rokem +1

    My meta sx team came with a clamp for the dropper remote whereas the shifter came with matchmaker.
    Regarding the hub of the dropper…. Size L comes with a 170 mm dropper. But me with 1,86m would easily prefer a 200mm or even bigger. I think they choose the length of the dropper so that it fits smaller drivers perfectly. Taller drivers have to pull the dropper out. Would be difficult the other way around …to fit a smaller driver on dropper, which is too big.

Not a great climber, but I actually felt it was pretty playful on the downs and fairly nimble ... but I also sized down and rode a size M when I would usually ride a size L. I came from a medium Meta AM 2019 and I really liked the fit so that's maybe why. I talked to commencal about the sizing and that's what they recommended for me (size M). (if you do want a fast answer: I'm 182cm and very likely going for a meta sx size m. I could choose M or L, going for M since with the current trends, oversized M means M-L)

      Go Medium 100% I fit large on their sizes but a buddy of mine has a large and he’s 6”2 I’m 5”11 the large was way too big. I was also extremely careful with sizing cause I made mistake with buying a large yeti. Please remember and you can go back and check, but the large bikes from 2019 and before are now mediums, and 2019 XL are now larges. Go and look at the geometry. You’ll see a 2022 large has the same reach numbers as a 2019 large. I don’t get the long reach numbers, it can put you in such a bad riding position where you could lose out on having great control and maneuverability. Like I said I’m 5”11 went with a medium and feels absolutely amazing however, it was still a tad big long but I put a 32mm stem and my position alone on the bike is something I never knew could make such an impact on how I rode

    Let's face it: with the SX Commencal tried to fix what was wrong with the 2021 Meta AM (which I own): Reach too long + chainstays too short = unbalanced bike with an awkward rear orientated rider position that really takes some getting used to and an active riding style. So they shortened the front, made the rear longer and slapped a 27.5 on, because it's trendy. If it had a 29er in the back, it would probably be what the AM should have from the beginning.

    Everything functions properly czcams.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Nothing was damaged in the box aside from a decal on the fork. The decal was missing a piece of a corner but I ended up peeling them off anyways. Assembly is easy BUT make sure you tune up the derailleurs. Both the front and rear need adjusting. I'd advise going to a bike shop but I opted out and put in 10+ hours with the help of CZcams. Ended up fraying a shifter cable but all in all I learned from the experience. The Brakes work well but the front caliper needs adjusting or at least mine did because the rotor was rubbing against the pads. Make sure you swap out the seat, grips, and pedals. For the short run you'll be fine though. I've read that this bike isn't built yet for hard trails but I just need it for the city. PA has some of the worst roads and being in a mountain this was a great choice. Worth the investment!

      can't confirm that. I rode my Meta SX and the AM of a friend in comparision for a few Laps. I could definetly feel a difference in the agility and liveliness of the bike, espacially in tight turns. On straigth chunky stuff the AM felt a bit more stable, but not by much. When it comes to jumps the SX was way more fun, espiacially on steep Lips. It had a way more natural feel in the air then the AM.
