I love my 2013 Touareg TDI. It's reliable, fuel efficient, and comfortable. And the "faux" wood trim is actually genuine hardwood.

Yeah just because it isn't open pore (which can also be faked) doesn't mean it's not real wood. The Germans don't do fake wood.

The reliability of those is perfect. My grandfather had 3 of them, all v6tdi, all made it to 300k kilometres towing cars around without any problems before he sold them!

Reunited with TDI Touareg this week. Turned in my 2011 a few years ago for the money. Picked up a 2016 low mileage and grinned all the way across the country bringing it home from N.C. My 100,000 mile calculations on cost per mile revealed that the Diesel is more expensive (at the current prices vs. premium) but, the reliability and reputation of the TDI vs. the V6 Gasser made the decision a no brainer.

I took a few of my relatives to the airport which was about 4 hours away, they had 4 big luggages and the car was filled to the brim. By the time I got to the airport, the avg mpg was about 32.7. By the time I made it back home, Averaged 33.6. It's a fantastic car, really comfortable and fun to drive.
Edit: Almost the entire trip was highway with 60 mph avg according to the car

I bought a Q7 last year with the same TDI engine and have put 20k mikes on it averaging 28mpg commuting in the terrible Northern Virginia beltway traffic. I couldn’t find another vehicle that can carry family of 6, get such good MPG on commute, tow a trailer better than wife’s LR4 with 5.0 V8, and be nice enough to do business lunches/drive business guests around in.
I like the diesel and would buy it again without thinking about it. It’s rock solid and pushes the 6000 lbs + vehicle around with ease.

I sold my 07 V10 TDI a couple months back for a Duramax due to needing more space for things like rain tires and spare parts. The Treg is an insanely awesome rig, and you'll honestly get the best towing mileage of any tow vehicle on the market, largely in part to it not being shaped like a brick at the front. Outside of the dumb little VW-ish things that will go wrong, the driveline will be super reliable for you. Congrats!

Cool...bought a '14 for much of the same reasons. Hate the cold shift programming as well...I now use the manual shifting option to force the trans to shift closer to normal. Once it is warm I put it back in regular drive mode. Don't drive often with the tank below 1/4 full. It is said that the fuel in the thank is used to cool the fuel pump. If it gets low - the pump can get hot impacting long term service. I have a lot of warranty left so I am not willing to step up to the tunes etc... HTH...

I know it's been two years, but there are often very affordable manual air bag systems that are very effective in raising the rear under load. I don't know for this truck in particular, but I've installed systems on other trucks and they work great. Tie them to one inlet, pump them up with a bike pump, read the pressure with a regular tire pressure gauge, and Bob's your uncle.

I’ve noticed a big increase in power and torque plug in and play takes 2mins notice it after 300miles or so. Easy mode for less then $200 only thing I would recommend is servicing more frequently as the car is working bit harder

Please use forvo.com to find a native speaker that will pronounce it for you. Not a British. British are the worst at pronouncing anything around the world they simply lack most of the vowels or consonants other languages have and because of the British spelling that shifts the a,e,i around, they consistently mispronounce everything that almost any other native speaker would get right even if they never heard the word before.
Right now forvo has this in German: forvo.com/search/Touareg/ They might get other languages/speakers added too in the future.

I love my Cayenne Diesel. The dieselgate "fixes" really dicked with fuel economy, time to torque, and general driveability. Rather than bring the torque in they really damped it down, so that there's nothing...nothing...nothing...all of the boosts. FE dropped from about 32-33mpg highway (hand calculated) to about 29 mpg after the fix too.
I'll eventually get a Malone stage 1 tune and reflash the TCU, although I'd be more than happy just putting it back to how she left the factory.
I can still tow my miata on open trailer and get about 22mpg keeping it to 70-75mph. Tows like there's nothing back there. It'll hold 8th gear on all but the steepest grades and the speedo doesn't budge.
You definitely want 21's with summer tires. She handles like a larger WRX.

Your Tuareg is a Fantastic Machine Make Sure you maintain it properly and it will serve its purpose for a long time. 240000 km on its clock it's nothing it will do 3 times that with proper maintenance. Make Sure you Put the RIGHT OIL Castrol EDGE 5W30 LL (7,7 litre) witch is recommended for it and regularly change it every 15000 km/10000 miles and you will have a reliable SUV also do a oil and filter change on your gearbox and you are good to go for another 200k. Good luck with your new Tuareg and Welcome to the VW Club. :)

I have a 2006 V8 Touareg with 172K miles on it and have towed my 7000 pound enclosed trailer for the last 4 years. Has been a very good experience for me. Plenty of power with about 7-8 mpg while towing. This past winter, we bought a 2013 TDI Touareg and love it even more. Love getting 26 mpg and since it's the Lux model, it rides a lot smoother than my 2006. Just towed 800 miles this past weekend and it was nice getting better fuel economy and have a smoother ride. Got about 11 mpg on rolling hills and diesel is about 20 cents cheaper than premium, so that is an extra bonus.

Dave was that video to convince the mrs that her SUV is going to great multi purpose family car? Mate its going to drop in the arse with a loaded car trailer on the back. I've seen them towing small 16 foot caravans here in Australia with only 150kg on the ball and its not a pretty sight, even with weight distribution bars fitted. Glad your not going to lower it.....oh hang on! I seen one rip a 6m boat out of the water last week. It shaved 5mm of the Dunbier draw bar and broke the dam chains off. I think Peter was just being polite "yer Dave this is a great idea" Hand both sets of keys over to the mrs mate you wont be needing them. You know what truck you really need to tow the race cars..................and yes it will need a supercharger upgrade! By the way best channel on CZcams boys a credit to you both.

I love my 2013 Touareg TDI. Towed my trailer with S2000 like it wasn’t even there. Have a Malone stage 2 tune now so I’ve got nearly 500ftlb torque and def get more range (about 700 miles to the tank) at highway speeds. Towing I can get from NY to Ohio (Toledo) on a tank of fuel.

I call mine a Toe Rag and I'm about to buy another. Best turning circle, most comfortable seats and some real off-road and towing cred without the comfort sacrifices. Just watch out, the battery is under the seat and needs a special tool to replace.

But what is the tow hitch rated for, as well as tongue weight? Also have to consider your tires when towing as well

I am from from Germany and we are driving a Mercedes Viano 2.2cdi, it's a big Van and we get 6.5l/100km with a total range of over 1200km. And you can transport 7 people and luggage + dog with bikes on a rack. Diesel just rules. Our small city car gets 8l / 100km at half the size

Good choise. But look for the Touareg with air suspension. With air suspension you will drive extra comfortable.

@@dark-_-ariii4987 I found one exact same spec as this. 2012. 190,000km for $13,600 CAD. It does the have air suspension but I don't mind that. It's a very comfortable ride without. I don't want high bills with air suspension but it is a good idea though. Thank you for the note

That's not much. For the air suspension you can see that in the middle console. If you have not the suspension you have on the right side one storage hole. In the front of the shift lever

curious, why do you say chip them because its a turbo diesel? arent you able to chip tune any car? or is there some specific benefit to tuning a turbo diesel specifically. considering between TDI and 3.6l touareg's for a tow vehicle, which is why i ask. thanks!

  • @steguis
    @steguis Před 5 lety

Also diesel nozzles are different size from gas and the Touareg has a safety cover that doesn’t open up unless you insert the larger diesel nozzle.

THE FIRST V10 TDI TOUARAGS HAD THE OXYGEN SENSOR BURIED ON THE TOPSIDE OF THE EXHAUST PIPE. IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED EVERY 20,000 TO 30,000 MILES. TO GET IT OUT YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE ENGINE.

Exactly what I was about to say, Marc. That V10 diesel. So cool that they did that. But without it, kinda boring. It works for a family-mobile, which I suppose we all need.

I picked up a Gen 1 Touareg (v6 3.2) with 85k miles for $1500... engine is rock solid, tranny as well. However, all the other small electrical and trim stuff has to be dealt with on a 13 year old car. It's now our grocery-getter about town... :)

I have a 2013 Touareg TDI that I bought new. It is a great driving car and loves the highway and towing. I have 65k miles on it now. Thus far, $22,460 in repairs have been made to the car. 4 Adblue heaters, 2 cats, the radio, 4 5F modules, the start button twice, the down pipe and a few other little things. The problem is the car is a Porsche in VW clothes, so you pay Porsche part prices. Don't get me wrong, I love how the car drives, but I will never buy another. I bought a $2k extended warranty so I have had only around $2k out of pocket to cover the warranty deductible. I don't want to rain on your parade, but wanted let you know what you are getting in to. Good luck and enjoy how they drive!
