Every year they show all these crazy new changes, then you pick the game up and it feels just like last year.

That's because after launch, and people having bought the game, the devs dumb down AI, making the game easier to score. Why you may ask? Because money. No one but die hard hockey fans will be buying this if people can't score. They don't play to get better and improve. They play to score goals. Can't score goals, game won't make sales.
This happens every year. They state AI is vastly improved and within the first month, AI is back to doing stupid shit.
How about they fix how abysmal tendies are in a penalty shot. People score all the damn time by simply skating to the boards, and then bee lining it by the tendie who can't make the save because the AI is atrocious.
Don't get your hopes up. EA loves to make promises and then go back on them.

I really appreciate that even in the video you acknowledged and showed an example of how frustrating the AI could be last year. Not many sports games are willing to do that, good on you EA Vancouver.
They haven’t done that in earlier games, started to in nhl 20 or 19. It’s a big improvement from them.

When they have a next gen chel game then everyone will say 23, 24, 25, 26 are all the same as 22 cause it's all being built in the same main engine
Tntjoko they completely stripped everything old gen had for NHL 15. Now for the last 6 years they’ve been slowly adding back features we used to have as main selling points for their game. EA is a joke

Yes, every year they promote it and every year the nerf the AI to pick up sales. No one buys this if they can't score. People play this to score goals, not play hockey. Half the idiots who play NHL 20 don't know their ass end from the stick end, never pass back to defencemen (I play defense and it's atrocious how underutilized defense are by nearly every player online). I can't count how many times I'm wide open for an easy one timer and they elect to shoot while covered by two people and I'm now defending an odd man rush.
I'm not excited. I'll get the game because I love hockey, but I sure as fuck don't love EA. Moment any other company makes a hockey game, EA is in my rear view mirror and it's adios, amigos!

Not going to write the game off but we’ll see. EA does this a lot, making trailers look nice just for the game to be a disappointment. I truly hope this time it’s not but I was really disappointed about NHL 20, a game that I thought had a lot of potential that turned out to have bad gameplay. We really won’t know until launch day so Imo I think it’s fine to still be sceptical with all things considered.

Jay Voorhees show me a sports game that doesn’t look the same every year, you’re such a sheep dude think for yourself. Comparing nhl 20 and 21 to 15,16,17,18,19 is astonishing the improvements made. Nhl 21 re vamps their entire be a pro which is something fans have asked for since nhl 14. Added better and new goalie animations building on last years improvements, better AI and human neutral zone and breakout fluidity, new realistic moves like the bank off the boards to keep speed and the chip behind the defender, tuned AI decision making and skating. What more could you really ask for from a fucking yearly game. Like if you’re not happy with the improvements made then just rethink what you’re looking for in a game thats made every single year. This will be by far the best game since nhl 14. If you want a copy replica sports game, go to fifac, mlb, or 2k. Neither of those games have had meaningful improvements in many many years.

That part honestly worried me. It looked awful. I hope they don't hemorrhage breakaways or odd man rushes like they did in the test.
Batman they definitely need to work on certain strategy sets from the test. Some of them just lead to people skating right by them while others felt OP. I hope they find a better balance. Personally though, I’d always be on the side of the AI (in EASHL) being easy to beat. Humans should win EASHL games IMO, not AI strats. Obviously Versus players need a bit better defensive AI though since they can only control one player, so I’d like to see different sets of AI for different modes. I definitely don’t think it’s an unrealistic thing to ask for either.
@@OneTeeGlory Right. They need to find a balance between the AI doing brain-dead things and them carrying the human players. Nothing better than playing against 2's in EASHL and have their AI players get the team's only points by banging in rebounds.

They do not understand hockey Terminology. Nobody at EA sports including the producers in the programmers have ever played a sport in their lives. it is very evident in the game.

Mico West the svech and kuch are both extremely difficult to pull off which is really good but the overall gameplay so far feels amazing

West the new ovi style dekes are really cool and the riding the boards thing is satisfying to pull off but it doesn’t work too often.
Lacrosse deke is super challenging I tried it over 50 times with every class in world of chel and didn’t get it off the ground more than once, which i kinda like it’ll make it more satisfying when you do finally score.
The Kucherov deke is simple enough after a few attempts but it doesn’t go on too often against ai goalies.
I’ve heard people say goalies are a lot more fluid this year but idk I don’t play goalie at all.
There’s tons of small improvements and cool gameplay additions but like every sports game over the past 7 years it’s fundamentally the same game, but you can’t really expect anything different it’s not like sports are revolutionizing every year.

@@Kyt2024 he means that it's the last game on current gen before they bring next gen consoles out. Nhl 15 was the first game on current gen and they stripped it of almost all the features. They had said they couldn't bring the old gens game to current gen and improve it. They had to totally remake the game and they didn't have to staff or crew to bring all the features over console generations.

It's nothing close to any of the last 5 years, it feels way more like the old gen games but with next gen polish
Scoreboard and graphics look exactly the same. But it sounds like they improved a lot of the other stuff needed, such as be a pro. Especially with the pandemic going on. I’ll wait for reviews to come out before buying though.

yet every time a goalie gets scored on in this video, they are in the same old animations lol
you are telling me a guy comes down (3:09 / NO GOALIE EVER WOULD DO THIS BUT IT'S A STAPLE ANIMATION) and goes through his legs and the goalie drops butterfly yet kicks out his leg which is so pointless then tries to catch the puck like he doesn't know how to use his glove hand love it. Not to mention the Ovechkin goal at the end what goalie would be so far out of position that he has to make a desperation save on a 1 on 1 shooting situation from the circle.
and yeah let's add the michigan and then not allow for the goalies to have proper hand movement and upper-body tracking to attempt to save it!!!! GENIUS.

Why did I play closed beta and haven't noticed any of these things. Makes me feel like we've got to play some kind of October game build from last year compared to gameplay improvements in this trailer. I guess I'll try again in EA Access 10 hour trial to see for how much the entire build of NHL 21 is worth.

Well it looks like their making some good changes. They are finally revamping be a pro and for people who play online you can finally make line changes/goalie substitutions in the middle if the game. They even made goalies better so the glitch goals that have plagued the game for the last few years won't go in every single time

I was expecting more in the trailer, but I played the technical test and the game was pretty good.

@@gameimprovements4347 Faster paced, A.Is are smarter, goalies are better. I think the average Joe would tell you "oMg iTs sAmE gAMe siNCe 2014", but as someone who basically only play NHL and no other games I can definitely see the differences compared to last year. I heard for people that plays club, it's more fun to play goalie now and overall EASHL is better, but I wouldn't advance myself on that because I didn't have the chance to play EASHL during the technical test, I only played 1 v 1
