NHL® 23 is almost here, and as always, game-changing gameplay innovations are everywhere you look. A new series of desperation gameplay animations add a new layer of authenticity and excitement to the game including: Stumble Actions, Loose Puck Plays, and Enhanced Goalie AI.
Gameplay strategies have been updated across the board to make it easier to understand and execute the best game plans for your desired playstyle. What’s on deck: Two New Modern Special Team Strategies, Player Roles on the Power Play, New Instructional Videos.
X-Factors have also received an upgrade with two new abilities introduced to represent our cover athletes. Trevor Zegras’ “Skilled Up” lets you recreate his viral flip pass over the net, and Sarah Nurse's “Relentless” increases the player’s ability to shoot and pass while off balance. We’ve also updated X-Factors with Smarter AI. This means better playmaking, with AI players using enhanced X-Factors to be more impactful on the ice and akin to their real-world counterparts.

Maybe start with a 2 year cycle for all sports games? Every other year you have a major update and in between you have smaller updates for roster and things like that.
they pretty much already do this, but it's more like a three year cycle. just don't buy the game until the major update. pretty simple.

I hope they REALLY fixed goaltending. Also hope that the off balance shot doesn’t become a spam thing. I do like the power play changes though.
Won’t happen lol… it’s been an issue for a decade and the reason is because people find ways to score « glitch » goals within the first weeks/months of the game release… just another washed up addition to the game that will be « changed/improved » next year again. Same thing with the improved interception and improved passing. Go watch older year gameplay trailers… I think these were a main addition in nhl 20/21/22😂😂😂 i know I’m 2022 they added improved passing interception! such a joke
I really didn’t have a massive issue with AI goalies, my issue was the horrible controls for player goalies

From the clip you can still see the stupid goals you can score on the goalies. The in tight backhand that somehow squeezes in short side is still there. It says the goalies have over 300 animations. I literally seem like 2 new ones and the rest seem like old ones from previous years. I’m not holding my breath on this game.
I hope someone at EA reads the comments and sees how disappointed we are with the lack of innovation with these games. It's disheartening.

Hockey is for everyone, right? If so, port it over to PC. Some of us with physical disabilities (hint: cerebral palsy is a physical one, you hose heads) can't physically handle an Xbox or PS5 controller well enough to make the console a must-buy.

It would be a great imrprovement but dont get your hopes up. We will be lucky if we get anything for be a pro this year and all we know is that the franchise mode game presentation and probably be a pro game presentation with the fans will be better. But still. It needs way more improvements.

Yeah that signaling to the bench is going to save me so many icing I don't know how many times I go to pass the puck to the person by the bench and they jump off for a line change also so frustrating glad to see this getting addressed!

Definitely lots of improvements and I like them all. Hopefully we get updates to franchise mode as well maybe even connected franchise 👀.
I'd like the option to know if a player is willing to take a home town discount, like as part of a draft interview or a contract talks interview. Would make Franchise mode a lot better

@@Rinde007 the Show tried something like this for a few years, then totally bailed on it, saying it took too much work for how many people were using it, and caused issues with the multi platform integration.

Shame about the reduced poke check ability, because in 22 it was finally a viable defense option instead of a guaranteed tripping penalty
I agree and disagree. I think poke checks in 22 were sometimes a get out of jail free card. Hopefully these changes only make it more balanced and compliment other defensive options

Would like to see updates to story mode in "Be a Pro" as well as allowing for realistic contract negotiations. Banner/award/retirement ceremonies would be a great dimension to add. The creation zone is really outdated and needs new player appearance options, more equipment manufacturers, as well as a custom mask creator for goalies.
Be a Pro/Story Mode should be best mode but EA never cares about their career modes being the best of the best.

As I expected, the entire trailer showed throws in the fall. That's it. Easniki presented this as a kind of "revolution", and in fact, everything that you saw in today's trailer has long been in NHL 2K10.

The animation showing when a player is changing is a huge improvement I’ve wanted for years. Previous generations long ago had the option to choose what kind of faceoff to utilize on the next play. I hope to see that.
Please make Jackson & Lee play Defence! Make them hard to beat. They are literally irrelevant on the ice in clubs 3v3.

GM CONNECTED, Storymode Franchise Mode, A OPEN WORLD BE A PRO (being able to walk around the arena and interact with people to boost chemistry and such, it would make it a lot easier to simulate and it would be more fun) . this is how you make the best NHL game to date

PC players have done that for years. That’s nothing new.
They do that on purpose, they’ve tried it out with sticks not being able to go through other players and they said it completely ruined the game

If this is all true and the bugs aren't bad, I might buy the first back-to-back NHL games ever. Went from Tournament Edition to 22 (never had a PS4/XBONE). If they'd made it on PC, I wouldn't have jumped so far.

What kind of updates is franchise mode getting? The ability to have and build new rivalries? They should have a way to reference things that happened is previous games ie a fight or injury the last time you played a certain team or deeper stats that show which players light certain teams up or don’t do well against others etc
This is what I miss the most from the PS3/360 generation
Personally I just want NHL to stop the yearly releases and just act as a live service hockey game for years to come, adding content, fixing bugs and improving gameplay over time. If that’s just me that’s fine but it would make for better games in the future and would haunt the copy and paste feel vs the yearly release.
I'd like to see them implement coach challenges. Especially in GM modes. Sometimes the calls for offsides and goalie interference are dicey. Adds more authenticity to the game I know they are reviewed by the refs automatically but to try and overrule a play would be huge and add to the engagement. NBA games have started to implement it for their latest games. Can't wait for NHL to start

Totally. Dude. I get ejected for fighting sometimes in 22 and he says "you can't fight in this league."
The pass assist might be the biggest pain point I had. Playing couch co-op trying to setup plays with the D and just having the back pass split through them down to your own end when it should be the easiest play was frustrating. It's like the game wasn't designed for full team set plays with overhead camera...which it probably isn't but that's hockey.

For a franchise that gets a lot of flack for not making meaningful content changes, this seems like it deserves some respect. There is a lot of changes, seems pretty significant.
i literally havent been able to find a match on hut for like 3 months. i dont think its just flack theyre getting, people have given up on the game.

Stick curves and flexes for each build, as well as skate blade radius
They should make franchise mode like be a pro and your gm has a look you get to pick and the owner would be like how the coach is in BAP and you player/staff/fan likability meters. Maybe some cutscenes and interviews.
When I heard they were adding strategies I actually got excited but then of course it's only on the powerplay and penalty kill, how ridiculous. Give more than the same old options that haven't changed for years, give people the option to customize their offense and/or defense or at least have 10+ strategies so you can change it up. It's irritating to hear they are going back to heavy pass assisting, people not being able to make pinpoint super hard passes non stop was the best part of 22 when it released but then they patched it immediately because you can't upset the arcade players I guess. Then they increased puck carrier speed? The last thing this game needs is more speed, it already plays way faster than NHL hockey especially in HUT.
I know it won’t be much, I’m sort of exited just to see what new dekes, goalie maneuvers, some of the new last chance goals, and some franchise mode features (if we get any). I won’t get my hopes up because I know it’s EA, but you never know, I could be genuinely surprised.

Dont know about anyone else but im getting the playing defense is going to be shitty this year vibe😅
Please allow fighting is 3v3 Clubs, as well as allow an option to change player loadouts between periods. Maybe an option to select a goaltender and AI 3rd man as well before the game begins. Maybe an option to wear Street clothes as a club. Possibly make it so certain hockey bags are rewarded for milestones rather than be completely random. Or maybe a points system where you can save up points to buy items for your player/ club. Just thoughts. Love the gameplay improvements, I just love EASHL and hope it gets the improvements it needs.

@@centralhockey12 to fix the dss boost is okay... but to slow you down, as a hockey player, not really.
It will hinder your stop/go and some agility since your weight is offset, but in terms of speed, it doesn't affect that much.
I'm glad Rammer got a new job title and raise, definitely deserved with how much his vision has improved the game.

Had me in the first half not gonna lie!
I like the sounds of all of these changes. Now we have to wait and see if they work as attended and in all modes when applicable. I play mostly world of chel with a couple friends and the amount of frustrating moments where a bot has zero hockey logic is super frustrating. We dont have a full tean of 6 and we prefer 6 v 6 to 3 v 3, so we have to rely on some bots, which often leads to unfun games. Defenseman unwilling to stop backskating and letting a fast skater run by him for a breakaway, goalies not reacting to even the easiest puck movement, bots continually turning it over in their own zone instead of making an easy outlet pass, etc.
Happens all the time. They won't fix it.

It felt like the players on my team had no idea to break out of the zone in the last 2 games. I’m really optimistic about the structure for this. I regularly go back to NHL 2K9 on my PS2 because it feels like I am actually playing hockey. NHL 23 puts a smile on my face!!

Im pumped for these changes! Bumping players off the puck was way too easy, as was poke checking. More set-ups and new roles sounds wicked, the games will feel very different for those reason alone.

Ok the player changing lifting the stick and slowing down skating when in defensive stick mode might just be worth it all on its own. No more glitch speed skating on the back check and no more dumb missed passes cuz the guy is changing. Huge
