Ea sports games used to be the fucking standard for all sports games. How they got nearly every sports game license isn't a mystery. How they have kept the license is baffling.

08 was the biggest change in game play. they introduced a proper cycle system and defence actually stayed in position on the blueline

I feel old now I remember playing most of these games when I was a kid games like nhl 99 and 2000 thank you for bringing back memories for me
2004 had a graphics glitch, but it was also experimenting with more advanced graphics. It was the first one to have the lights reflecting off of the ice, which would have been considered cutting edge stuff at the time.

After playing 22 for a while I went back to 17 and 18 and man, it's so much better and more fun in every possible way (BaP with realistic sliders), the presentation, animations (don't remember if I've ever seen a player smoothly catching the puck with glove and throwing it down in later ones), deflections, scoreboard isn't at the fking bottom obscuring the ice when behind the net, the net fucking MOVES when scoring etc. etc. About the oldest ones: I played since 96 and remember 98 and 99 to be the most fun, 97 was too simple with controls and everything, then from 2000 onwards until 04 or so it felt off somehow and simplified. If I had to pick, the best whole package for me was 98, best intro (though 97 and 99 were also great), best controls, best fights where you could do more stuff than any other nhl game after. I guess the same can be applied to Fifa, 98 had the most tricks and was a lot of fun, then 99 and 2000 came and basically it was just running forward and most goals looked the same, stopped playing after 02 cause I wasn't having fun at all.

In NHL 2001, you can get a goal 100% of the time if you slapshot from center ice. No idea why it works.

With the early games you have to be more creative with your shots, and specific shots work better depending on the year, such as the wraparound one year, the one-timer the next, and let's not forget the old EA sports classic cutting up and across to the left to make the goalie slide and then putting the puck into the empty right side of the net. Works every single time.

To me. NHL 19 is the best because me and my brother created so many teams. As of now, we have 14 teams. We are planning on making a lot more in the future. We stopped making teams after a while because we lost the disc. We even made an All-Star team to our “League”. The game is so nostalgic to me. And the soundtrack is great!
I made 33 custome teams in nhl 18 and did a fantasy draft with all of my own custom teams. Can’t be bothered to do ahl league though

I have scored a goal in everyone of these games. God I'm old. I remember when 95 came out and we were just blown away. I think 99 was the 1st game you could have 4 friends play season on the same team
Those early NHL games my friends and I would have such high scoring games using what we would call the "SEGA move"

Used to really enjoy smashing people in the older games after the whistle and Dale huntering some fools everytime they opposition scores.
in NHL 06, Evgeni Nabokov was the actual BEST GOALIE in the game. Me, my brother and a friend would often play matches and the friend would always take the Sharks because we were playing at his place on his console. We would never really score. maybe 1 goal per game. we would try the dekes that were added to this game before not appearing again for 15 years and they would never work ever.
Also, my favorite nhl games and soundtracks (overall) are 04, 06, 07 and 09
Does anyone remember when the puck would spin around on the top of the goalie and then go in (NHL 1) I could also launch it from one end of the ice in one specific spot right over the shoulder of the goalie to score - loved that game.
NHL Hockey (1991) will always be the greatest NHL game all-time! I still play it today.
NHL 94 was the pick of these early games imo. The addition of one-timers added a lot to the action.

I'm perfectly aware that this video is 3 weeks old but I want to point out that 90% of the goals you scored whether you knew it or not were actually known glitch goals in those games 🤣 and yes the older NHL's are better than the newer ones this video makes that obviously clear NHL 04 was the best of the bunch and I think NHL 14 was probably second

When u didn't know this was a thing and just did it because u were a fan of the game....and old af. There was nothing more satisfying than ending someone career with a hit. It was rare but it DEF was possible. Different sound and animation with blood

13:11 the ps3 wasn't released until a month after nhl 07 came out, the 360 was released a year before the ps3

Grew up on early NHL games all thru the 90s loved them for sure.. we used to have app sorry of tournaments in KY house with my dad brother and cousins...crazy how video games brought people together!! Without people being toxic af
NHL Legacy on Xbox 360. I believe it was between NHL14 and 15. It either had Brodeur or The Cup on the cover of it.

Nhl 2007 was only released on the PS2 because the game was released 2 months before the PS3 was.
