- The Yamaha MG12XU is a 12-channel analog mixer with USB interface. It's a great console for smaller bands, corporate rental and AV work as well as simple home recording. In contrast to the MG20XU series this one is filmed with me behind the camera, which allows you to see all the small details of the knobs, faders and controls.

Can you connect this mixer straight to a Mac for built in audio
Where are the connections for stage monitors???
@@oilfieldtexas8570 this was my exact reaction!
These tutorials are incredible. You've explained every knob, button and label on the console, and whenever I seemed to come up with a question, you'd magically answer it in the next sentence or two. I also love how you slow down your sentence when you're about to say something "jargon-heavy", so we have the time to process. Absolute legend. Thank you!
You're welcome Alivender, thanks very much for watching 😊
The most extensive tutorial ever. I bet if you give a tutorial on how to fly a plane, we all can do it just by watching your tutorial. Tq sir 💥💥💥
Well I hope you never have to do that 😅
I've owned a Yamaha MG10XU mixer for years. I use it in my studio, gigged with it, recorded with it and it always performs well. Soon I will be looking for a mixer just for the studio now that gigging season has resumed and the MG10XU will be busy. Based on your 2-part tutorial, the MG12XU seems like just what I need.
Glad the video was helpful! The MG12XU is a great all purpose small mixer.
My wife got me this same mixer last Christmas... Great information, I learned something new... and your video is better than the instruction booklet...
Glad to hear that Terry!
Wowwww very lucky man to have a wife like her giving a xmas gift like a mixer.. i salute you my man .. 😉
It is a great mixer. I love mine.
Hello Friend, thanks for the tutorial, it has been very helpful, now I have a question, I have a microphone connected on channel 9/10 with usb output, how can I add more volume since when I make the video the volume is only very low if you could help me Thank you
Brilliant tutorial! Made me purchased the mixer through my local online store. Just had a couple of days learning it with this channel and was really in-depth compared to the manual. Thank you very much for this educational video. More power to your channel!
That's great news, enjoy your new mixer!
I have been using the MG10XU for 8 years. I just upgraded to the 12XU and would have been lost without your videos. Thank you GLB Productions. Thank you
Really great to hear that Ellen, all the best with your music :)
Hi. I'm know you have heard this a million times, but here is a million and one :) Thank you sooooooooooooooo much for such indepth videos. I can't believe the time you take to explain what the reason is for how or why you certain connections and what inputs/outputs to use and why.....etc. You are INCREDIBLE!!! I just purchased the VGM14 Yorkville Mixer Board and I am going to connect two mains, two monitors and a single sub woofer to it. Should be interesting....lol. Thank you so much again!!!!
Very glad the video was helpful :)
I have the MG12XU, MG10XU and the Mackie ProFX10v3. The topics explained here go well past the information presented in any of the manuals and can be applied to multiple mixers. I really appreciate the practical examples presented; this made understanding the concept(s) much easier. Thank you.
You're welcome, that's exactly why I do these videos 😄
i've had this mixer for well over a year, and i've learned more with these vids than i have just messing around. thanks for sharing your knowledge
You're welcome Don that's exactly why I make these videos 😊
Just purchased MG12XU and this tutorial gave me best insight to start my Mixing journey. I cannot thank you enough. I will be using it for my DJ Gig. Will be connecting via Channel 9-10 using the RCA and will use Channel 1-2 for my microphone controls. I cannot thank you enough for sharing your valuable insight especially with the FX controls for the mic.
You're welcome Justin, all the best for your DJ work!
Thank you for this and your other tutorials! I'm using this mixer for live gigs with two vocalists with one also playing acoustic guitar and the other playing fiddle, four mono-inputs total. The main Stereo Out goes to a Peavey XR-560 Powered Mixer that drives a pair of Peavey 112TLS passive speakers. And I send a shared monitor mix out of Aux1 to a Yamaha DBR 12 powered monitor on stage. But I've made a few mistakes setting up the monitor mix and wanted to share.
While the Channel Aux1 knobs are switched to Pre-Fader and the Aux1 Send Master is independent, in order to get FX routed to the FX Block Aux1 Pre knob, the post-fader Channel Aux2/FX knobs have to be set, the Channels On and their Faders set. In other words, there has to be signal going the FX Block via the Channel Aux2/FX knobs before there's any FX Aux1 Pre to mix into Aux1. That may be obvious to more experienced users, but for a time I didn't understand why I couldn't get any FX to Aux1.
Yes, you now have a fundamental understanding of how signals are routed within the mixer 😀 Thanks for sharing, glad you got it all working.
Sir Bruno is THE BEST !.. thank you brother. I've learned a ton watching this video and others you've made. Keep up the good work.
Glad to hear that and thanks for watching! 🥰
Absolutely
Aloha from Hawaii.......I had just purchased this mixer together with the Yamaha Powered Speakers and Subwoofer. Reading the owner's manual gets me in the forest where I get lost. Your video tutorial on how to operate this mixer is wonderful....very easy to understand. I will now test out the full system. As we say here in Hawaii.....Mahalo (Thank you)!
That's awesome Roy, thanks for watching and all the best with your music!
Holy phenomenal explanation of the MG12XU! Thank you so much!
You're most welcome.
So far the most informative, well put and well explained tutorial ever. I am gland I bumped into this channel. I am loaded with knolwdge. Thanks for making me feel like the big man in soud engineering
You're welcome John, and welcome to the channel!
Out of all the tutorials, this by far was the best!!! Thank you!!
You're welcome Barry!
Sir. Your explanations are fantastic. Clear. Concise. I applaud you and I thank you for your time. I have learned more on these first two videos about my mixer that I have from any other source
Many thanks Julian, very glad the videos were helpful!
Thank you so much for explaining in great details. I am struggling to understand the manual, and your videos help me to have a better understanding of what each port is for. Cheers!
You're welcome, it's often easier to follow a video tutorial than a printed document.
Dear GLB, thanks for this high-quality tutorial. I wanted to report my experience with USB interface with MG10XUF. Using a regular Windows 10 pc without drivers installed I experienced glitches and anomalous behaviour in audio playback from PC. All this problems were solved installing the tiny driver package supplied by Yamaha, which also allows to setup the sampling rate of playback and recording. So I would recommend to install the drivers anyway, even if it apparently works.
Thanks Gabriele, that's excellent advice - every computer is set up slightly differently and for some installing the driver can help.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Your video(s)have been very helpful. Explaining verbally and pointing to mixer knobs was awesome! My fears of approaching this Yamaha mixer have been eliminated!
That's awesome, glad the video was helpful!
Wow! Great tutorial. Thanks so much for your articulate and well paced tutorial. I will definitely watch your other ones also.
Thanks for watching Walt!
Thank you, Sir Bruno, I learned a lot in this video. Another perfect lesson.

That's great, enjoy the mixer!
Thank you so much. Our church is about to purchase the Yamaha MG20XU mixer and these tutorials are invaluable.
You're welcome Adrian. Remember that there is no substitute for in-person training - the retailer who you purchase the mixer from should be able to provide training that is specific to your needs, or recommend somebody who can provide such training in your area.
Learned a LOT from your videos over the last few years Bruno, cheers
You're most welcome Pat!
Your tutorials are very detailed and informative. Thanks!
You're welcome and thanks for watching 😄
Thx for doing this comprehensive overview of this mixer. You are the best here on You tube. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Crispa, appreciate the support!
I had this unit for over 2 years and never understood how to use it correctly until it broke down. I sent it for repair cause the sound was just terrible but after 3 times they said it was beyond repair and they offer me a credit for the same amount I first purchased this unit at which I think I was sweet. Anyway I watched both videos and as soon as I get my new unit I will be able to make more of it. Yhanks for the video. 😁👍
You're welcome Eric, enjoy your new mixer!
Thank you for a wonderful demonstration and educarional content over your videos.
It has helped me understand every aspect about this board and I assume you can take take this knowledge and apply it over various other boards too.
Big thanks.
You're welcome James, very glad the videos were helpful. The general principles are applicable to all analog mixers but some controls will be specific to certain mixers and will need to be learnt individually.
Awesome instruction. I just purchased this model last week and now getting it hooked up. Very helpful, thanks!

hello. Very helpful video. Yamaha should pay you, or at least feature your 2-part video series on their site, as you speak very concisely and it’s easy to follow along. Thanks a lot and keep up the good work.

Thanks for watching!
Outstanding! Thank you sir!
You're welcome Michael 😊
Brilliant tutorial
Thanks Glenys!
Thanks, it's very useful 🤙🏽🙏🏽
Thanks very much for this tutorial! After viewing this, I feel a bit embarrassed because I had used a totally wrong configuration of my Music Studio. This has resulted in a loss of audio quality due to signal leaks. I'm using an external Synthesizer in combination with Cubase to write compositions. Due to my incompetence it appears I've been mixing and adjusting my pieces very poorly. Luckily, I found your channel and clear explanation of the MG10 (in my case). Thanks again and I'm looking forward to produce my work with better audio quality.
You're welcome Ed, all the best with your music!
Excellent tutorial sir
Thanks for watching!

Wonderfully nice 👍
Thanks Howard 😊
crystal clear explanation
Thanks Ravi.
very educational I really learn a lot
Thanks for watching Carlos.
I had to watch the section on the gain structure for channels 5/6 twice to make sense of it. It does make sense but I don't use this function enough to have a feel for it. That is why I like your videos, the information is there but one might need to watch it more than once. (This is more about my own lack of experience with mixers than any issues with the video).
Yeah the difference is that on 5/6 and 7/8 the pad is built into the 1/4" inputs rather than there being a separate pad switch for the combo input.
Thank You for this tutorial! I decided to bye this mixer after watching Your videos. Somewhere, I do not remember exactly where you were talking about connectivity between Yamaha and Windows computer. I have two different Windows 10 computers and both gave me a problem - from time to time I have heard noise on USB channel. Problem is solved by downloading and installing Yamaha-Steinberg MG series driver from Yamaha.com site.
And thank You mutch for this video. It is great to study smth. new such easily.
Good point Mikhail - it is always best to use the manufacturer's USB drivers to ensure a problem-free connection. Thanks for watching!
@@patookyariii17 No! I do like. Really do. The only problem I have is p&p drivers compatibility, but there is original driver at yamaha.com
You are great thank you so much
You're welcome, thanks for watching :)
Great information... Tx! 😀
You're welcome Hakan.
100% detailed best tutorial ❤Very thankful Sir since I'm newly operating MG16XU at church i have learned every knobs effects from you., appreciate it❤i would still love to learn how to operate DYNACORD L1800FD and church sound system setup if that's possible.
Thanks for watching, and thanks for the suggestions :)
This channel is so underrated. Excellent video
Thanks for watching, appreciate the support 😊
@@GLBProductions thank u too. By the way if u can spare me few minutes. Suppose I want to buy a mixer to be used in a high school for small concerts and stuff. Should I go with the 12/16/20 channel?
It depends - you need to do an analysis of your current and future needs and work out which is best. More channels is more flexible, but the mixer gets bigger and heavier. Look at your current (pre-pandemic) gigs and see how many channels you used on average and then add at least 50% for future expansion.
@@GLBProductions Ive never thought of the 50% slot for future expansion. Now the 16 make sense. Thanks again.
Yes - especially at this frame size the channels get used up fast when doing concerts so you need to allow for room to grow.
