Honestly, getting our 3rd Darkness Subclass, whether it be Resonance or Nightmare, would not only complete the trifecta, but also retroactively expand upon Prismatic, complimenting what Bungie has stated they'd do.
Considering what Eris and Micah have agreed on regarding Nightmares being an untapped power of Darkness, it makes sense that it would be a subclass.
Plus it would make 7 subclasses
That and the very important fact that a 3rd darkness subclass would bring the total including prismatic to 7, and why wouldn't Bungie make something 7 if they could. All the resonance souls that our enemies have hint at it too. Having to gather resonance for mechanic also feels like how we were introduced to stasis and strand. Now this requires spinfoil hat level dot connecting, but what if we were getting resonance instead of prismatic in the final shape and that is what led to the delay, they knew it couldn't be a flop. That alternate ending without Cayde's sacrifice had use light and dark in a way that looked less like prismatic and more like we forced something new with all of our power. What if the big delay was to re-work the story to gives us prismatic, something definitively more exciting than "just another darkness subclass to round out the mirroring of the light" now vs later, and resonance will come in Frontiers or the end of Hersey and we use it to take control of the dreadnaught and leave the system setting up D3.
imagine for a new “buddy” aspect on warlock using nightmare damage, instead of a turret it’s like a ghostly apparition that flies around and attacks enemies
Edit: and then it could also apply a new nightmare debuff (like jolt for arc or unravel for strand). i’m thinking something like “Paranoia” which causes enemies to attack each other rather than the player or something like that
I'd also hope it would mean new Darkness Supers for all three Darkness subclasses. Narratively, this would make sense. The light and dark saga may be over, but Final Shape only showed there is so much we have left to learn about Light and Dark. Maybe Osiris and the Dark Vanguard help us discover new powers of Stasis, Strand, and Nightmares later on?
Ooh give me Resonance. Would love to steal the tricks of those Witness followers, those black/orange spiralling constructs are nice... And as Callus showed, you can even craft weapons with it.

I mean he got beat in contest mode with 6 rat kings, which is honestly just embarrassing for a raid boss and a being that is the second most powerful after the Witness.

I think resonance falls under the same category as prismatic when it comes to elemental types.

It’s cool that Bungie is acknowledging the theories that Nezerac may not be truly dead - we could use more Nezerac lore.
Heres a bit of a stretch but bungie loves 7 right? We have 6 subclasses now. 3 light 2 dark and prismatic. It would make sense if they added a 3rd darkness subclass to make us have 7 subclasses 3 light 3 dark and prismatic, thats why i think there diving back into nightmares and nezzy

I agree. However, my reasoning has been Destiny's writing has always dealt in themes of symmetry. There are three light subclasses, so there should be three dark ones. Also, this final dark subclass would justify Prismatic, and all darkness subclasses getting updates. For the darkness subclasses: new Supers.

@@urbansekkt6355As far as I remember unless retconned Vex are seperate from light and dark. Only the Sol Divisive follow the Witness. The Vex we've been fighting are a work force, the Vex military is unknown except for the Wyverns.
@@urbansekkt6355 the vex are the "pattern" that kept winning over and over in the original "flower game" (if we still believe unveiling). when the gardener and winnower "expanded" the game by creating the universe, the pattern somehow bled through from the previous game and formed radiolaria. the vex are an "expression" of the original final shape from past games.
If Nezarec comes back, He should come back in a new body. My two cents.
We first got Rhulk, he never skipped leg day, then Nezarec, who never skipped arm day, and then the Witness who skipped both days. His next body may just him never skipping any days.

If you go into the veil containment room, from the room where you hear the lore. Look down through the window and you'll see three pillers (pylons?). One piller is marked blue another marked green and the last is marked red. I'm quite sure the red subclass exists.
We rarely ever have raid boss characters return. We will likely learn more about nezarec and nightmares. based off where the story is going we will likely explore the darkness more.

imma just keep it real with everyone. The day bungie adds a 3rd darkness subclass whether it be nightmare or something else is the day I win the powerball, they hear us but they don't really wanna listen to us. and I don't think they will add on about Nezarec, we've seen the 3 episode previews and I doubt destiny 2 codename frontiers is gonna have a nezerec army in it, trust me I want all this stuff but bungie will not give us this stuff. they don't really listen all to well
they literality just made strand and then prismatic, one subclass each year for the last 2 years. Why wouldn't they continue to expand upon the class system? They'll keep adding new customisations to existing classes and adding new classes. They've been doing this since the game came out so what are you talking about
The subclass system we have right now will be different in 2-3 years time. And then in another 2-3 years from then it'll be different again. It constantly evolves.
Adding a new nightmare class just kinda makes the most sense so that the interface is balanced and symmertical, like 3 light 3 dark classes.
Nezarec’s Sin (and Nez himself) was one of the most enigmatic mysteries for like 8 straight years before they finally dipped into it. Assuming they won’t do these things next year is a very new light point of view.
If Mithrax learns how to control nightmares and memories due to his corruption would be very interesting since he's so aligned with the Traveller and light
Imagine Guardians got to be Overload, Barrier and Unstoppable with some new twists added. It would be sick and the real “red darkness subclass” we’ve been wanting

If they added a third darkness subclass, it makes sense it would be nightmares. It fits the theme of Darkness being the powers of mind, and all the Darkness powers restrain enemies in some fashion. Stasis freezes enemies, Strand entangles them, and Nightmares would probably scare them to much to move or something (like Cynder’s fear element from the legend of Spyro: dawn of the dragon).
A third Darkness subclass would also mean there would now be seven subclasses, and Bungie likes adding the number seven wherever they can.
I don't understand why people think "nightmare" is more fitting. Resonance was used by The Witness, The Diciples, The Black Fleet. "Nightmare" doesn't even have a plausible name yet for the element. What empowers the Shadow Legion, and made constructs that suppressed light? Resonance. What element appears when The Dread spawn in? Resonance. What element has let us interact with and utilize Precursor/Pyramid architecture/tech? Resonance. What element shut off the light beam from the Traveler? Resonance.
In what world, what universe, what REALITY, is "nightmare" more fitting?

Darkness is all about the mind. And nothing fits more than corruption of the mind in the form of nightmares.
In my opinion a Nightmare subclass would be the most likely new darkness subclass only behind a darkness subclass based on taken or Resonance powers.
Or Bungie decides to find a theme to compound all three into one single subclass?
I don't understand why people believe "nightmare" is more fitting than Resonance. We've only seen nightmare be used in one application, that being a security system. The nightmares are derived from Nezarek's personal psionic abilities, not so much a darkness element. However, we've seen resonance in mutltiple forms/applications. From relics, to abilites used by The Witness, Calus, and Rhulk. Used for sheilding, teleporting in Shadow Legion and Dread forces. Used in creating a *light suppressing* conduit. The Black Fleet used Resonace to shut off the traveler's death star ray and keep it contained. Resonance has also let us interact with and utilize Precursor/Pyramid architecture/tech.
In what world, what universe, what REALITY, is "nightmare" more fitting for darkness than what The Witness bleeds?
I never noticed how the "tunnel" you pass through to the Darkness ship is a silhouette of a Ghost Shell.

Waiting for someone to talk about this. Those ghost missions set up so much about the future. The Eremis, Psion clone, xivu in the ascendent plain/dreaming city. Especially the nightmare stuff. They really letting us know that they have so much more in store for us
I think the new power will be control, or making copies of our enemies. Like the hunter can place sniper knightmares, and theyll you can change to what enemy race you want. Titans get the heavy stuff, like the shielded cabal. And warlocks get the normal stuff like acolyte or dregs, but can summon multiple.

As people probably mentioned, Bungie likes 7, so having a 3rd Darkness class would perfect the balance with prismatic acting as the center and 7th definitive subclass.

i wish they gave us the power to take instead. we already work with our past foes a bunch, so imagine freeing the ones who were taken and having them fight for us in gratitude. Imagine being able to throw blight balls, or make those blight spheres. Using those centurion blight balls, Titans using that shield bash, hunters making psion clones, warlocks summoning shadow thrall. it would be the coolest subclass ever!

I’m fine with the final darkness subclass being nightmares over resonance. If you think about it, resonance is the ultimate darkness power just like terraforming is the ultimate light power. We can’t use the white terraforming power , only the spectrum from it, so it’s only fitting that be reflected with the darkness and resonance as well
Well, we "could" use just raw Light, worked against the Witness.
Just kind of a last resort "dumping everything I have left" attack that WILL kill your ghost. I'd imagine Resonance would end up the same, just overloading a Ghost with pure unrestrained Darkness and snuffing it out.
That was just concept art subject to change. The veil is the source of pure darkness and it is not the same color as resonance. It’s implied that resonance is the way that witnesses and it’s disciples uses darkness. Not pure darkness. Otherwise why differentiate from “darknesses”.
Also I could see the plot line of nezarec using Osiris, since it was his essence that brought him out of his coma.
It's been talked about in game and by Bungie that Mithrax is still affected by the curse especially since he was working so much with the remains to make that essence for Osiris. So it seems he'll tie into future Nezarec content

Color theory, Nezarec, Ghost missions, and the fact that we currently have 3 light, 2 darkness, and prismatic subclasses, totalling 6, and Bungie loves the number 7, all point to Nightmares being the 3rd darkness subclass.
Color theory is iffy cause you can interpret the Pouka Pond pillows as red or pink. But in Calus' arena at the end of Lightfall, there's blue, green and red. So more likely than not.
Not to mention, the only two colors missing are yellow and red, and I dont think we'll be pissing on anyone any time soon

The more i think about it, the more i agree that "Nightmare" could be a future Subclass. The real Question though is what would the supers and abilities be for each of the Guardians? What would the Melee be? Grenades? Fragments? Supers? And what kind of new Exotic Armor or weapons could we get that harnesses this new power?
The nightmares are the memories so it’s like a part of the veil but also a connection to us. It’s personal. Like our own ghost we gotta let go, not the robot kind.
I don't recall getting that dialogue from Micah about Eris documenting the Nightmares or Nezarec weaving them into the fabric of the pyramid unless that's a veteran account thing.

If Nezarec does come back, I hope that his appearance is closer to Tobias Kwan’s (lead character artist at Bungo) initial concepts for him with the menacing scythe, resonance cape and whatnot.
nightmares can coalesce into physical weapons, for example the scythe we used in season of the haunted - i feel like it'd be fair to dabble into the power of nightmares since we use our light for the same purposes; sentinel sheilds, dawnblades, blade barrage, etc.
This is just me spit balling here but looking back to Lightfall theres that line of Osiris figuring out what the Light and Dark represent. The Light is the domain of the physical, where the Darkness is the domain of the mind. Each subclass however runs parallel to the aspects of nature, so theres also the question of what aspect remains.
Solar vs Stasis, liberation vs domination, strong/weak nuclear forces.
Arc vs Strand, natural action vs conscious thought, electromagnetic force.
That leaves void then. So the final Darkness subclass should counter void, and seeing as void is based around the manipulation of space itself, then looking at the remaining natural force in the universe, which is gravity, then perhaps the final Darkness subclass will be based around time manipulation since gravity is the manipulation of spacetime. If that were the case then what is the conscious aspect of this power since its Darkness power? If I had to take a guess, isolation/loneliness. Stasis is about dominance, strand about unity, so the final could possibly be about isolation. Time isolates people at one point or another, and can often be ones worst nightmare, or alternatively your worst nightmares could be a specific moment in time one had to live through. Also there is already a lot of time based shenanigans already in the destiny universe.

However alternate perspectives seem to be a constant in the destiny universe as there was a mention of Zavala asking Elsie what using Stasis was like and she said it was similar to using Void. However the Veil itself has been refered to as an electromagnetic anomaly multiple times, not to mention if I recall correctly there's some old D1 Stormcaller lore that shows that the method for using that subclass is to relinquish control and let the Arc take over, much like how Strand operates

I would like to mention for that red subclass, Aztecross tried asking the devs about it when he had the chance before Final Shape released. all they said was "that red subclass is not real." wording it like that only makes me think on it more often than I normally would.
Y E S. We need another creepy Darkness class. Strand is delightful, but I crave something with a little more... *edge*. Ideally, in time for Halloween.

I think it highly unlikely that a third darkness subclass *doesnt* exist, because the player guardian is meant to represent the penultimate balance between light and dark. How can we be that if we have an inherent imbalance between the two within us, regardless of prismatic? It's also been postulated that each dark element is the backside of the coin to a light element. Solar and Stasis are one. Osiris likened Strand to Void if you listen to his analysis of each element near the pouka pond post lf campaign. A third could potentially be correlated to Arc in some way.

It’s likely that Resonance could be correlated to arc in that they’re conceivably two sinusoidal forces of different types. Arc is a sinusoidal electrical force (at least where alternating current is concerned). Resonance is a sinusoidal mechanical force. Similar yet completely different.

The darkness class theme seems to be CC, stasis slows movement/freeze and strand suppresses enemy damage/suspends. I would imagine this next darkness subclass will suppress abilities/blind or disorient.
I bet to reach the dreadnought in the future we might have to take control of nezarec's pyramid and by doing so we unlock the nighmare power that is hidden within.
Nezarec basically follows the principle of shrödingers paradox were he is in a state of not being alive or dead but in a state of limbo. Meaning he can exist even if possibly forgotten.
They have also talked about upcoming content in which we become the pilots of ships to deep space. Perhaps we take over a pyramid ship, gain the final darkness subclass and that is how we become these pilots theyve described
I've always like the idea of Decay as a darkness type as I think it goes well with the themes or stasis and strand. Nightmare is cool, but I don't really see it as a power per say, but if there is something behind it which fuels it then that in theory could by anything. Right now I think resonance is more likely.
Nightmare being our 3rd darkness subclass would complete the trifecta of Light and Darkness that feed into Prismatic now
All subclass also bear distinct idiologies
Light - Creation of matter through physical power that dies out
Solar - Burning and all engulfing
Void - Anti-Matter and Suppressing
Arc - Energy that spread out and through anything in its path
Darkness - Altering of matter through the power of the mind that remains
Stasis - Time altering
Strand - Matter being grabbed and wieved through ones understanding of the universes flow and state
Nightmare - Emotional manipulation through the understanding of someones burden
We know that Nightmares remain and theoreticly if the user chooses Stasis and Strand creations can remain for as long as the user wants to so it would fit the whole Light always creates something new but it eventually dies and Darkness takes something already existant and alters it
I'm still curious about who owned the pyramid ship on Europa because they even mentioned it in one of Micah's missions.
It would be cool to have a fear based sub class, I’m not sure how the supers would work though
Hoping for a taken subclass because we got some more lore about the winnower and the winnower talked to us directly, and since the winnower is what gave oryx his taken powers, I’m really hoping for that at some point
I think one thing point out is that, yeah we got prismatic, but if nightmare becomes our third darkness subclass, then its also likely not to be part of the prismatic. because of how unique it might be, its separated from the other two darkness subclasses, possibly even the most dangerous one to use. Like it may powerful abilities, but at the cost of health or something
It could play as mind control, disorient and disorder play style, turning enemies against each other, fearing them or having another blinding/agro effect.
I'm just hoping that if "Nightmare" is the next upcoming Subclass, that the Warlock gains minions that are just a part of the class package and not grenade-based. Running around with 2 Vandals sounds like fun (or other things). I'm just curious how they would make everything work.
That ghost mission from Micah really did set those breadcrumbs loose. A Nightmare subclass would be really cool if they did it well.
If we do get a new subclass, I hope we also get a new branch of subjugators also, and something to complement the attendants and weavers
This is kinda out there but wouldn’t a necromancy class be kinda cool? Not sure how it would fit as a dark subclass. But I’m just imagining hunters having the ability to possess enemies and jump around through them (like in dishonored), and warlocks being able to raise a certain amount of dead enemies for a short time and titans… be able to… do something cool as well… lmao.

Nightmare powers could still be linked to the vapor subclass mentioned. Not exactly what was leaked but I can see them quietly working on them and when we have to deal with nezarec fully, then we get it. Quite simple realy:
Fear, pain, despair for the debuff side.
Rage, content, euphoria for the buffs.
But also we got the taken ability too, in which the witness, who contacted us recently gave it to oryx.
Taken, dematerialized, darkness debuff.
Finalized, reshaped, and control buff.
Honestly I would love the power to take, but if they go down the nightmare route, it's just as good.
Nightmare powers released in the Fallen vampire castle season would be very fitting
Imagine another raid with Nazarec but completely in darkness like the darkblade strike with of course darkblade knight boss and tormentors.

So Nezarec is basically Sephiroth. Living on through memories.
Bungie for the next expansion should make the setting the lunar pyramid and all about the player gaurdian becoming the new master of it and thus gaining the power of nightmares
As a Warlock main whose had a Nezarec's Sin void build since Season of Arrivals and a player who was pretty disappointed with how Nezarec was utilized in Lightfall, I would ADORE Bungie utilizing him again post Final Shape! The concept of a "Final God of Pain" is so interesting and all the build-up he got in the seasons before Lightfall made it seem like he was going to be way more important to the story than he actually was. With how the narrative has turned around since then, I'm really excited for the potential return of Nezarec. Give this man an expansion worthy of his title!
If my favorite character makes a return I'll be extremely happy, all the more if I can have his powers

Just noticed that Nezarec shows "prismatic" colors on his back in the snippets in the video. Maybe it hinted since the raid since he used Light and Darkness
Imagine if a nightmare based subclass functioned like a necromancer type playstyle: enemies you defeat can be “resurrected” as nightmares and fight alongside you for a period of time.
Imagine one of the supers just make enemies depressed and non aggressive towards you.
Charged melee: cast a *cursed* skull which explodes near enemies and let them drown in *despair*. At 100 stacks of despair enemies kill themselves
Puppet grenade: enemy gets *haunted* by a nightmare which tells it to shoot its own faction. More haunted stacks = longer duration. If a haunted enemy kills itself because duration expires then it spreads curse to nearby enemies.
If it gets killed while haunted lasts the nightmare searches a new target.
Sidenote: haunted enemies can get killed by guardians too (friendly fire)
Cursed is the third verb and let enemies explode by X stacks. Curse is spreading on enemies nearby who get damage from the explosion and give them a small amount of despair stacks.
This is something I could imagine for this darkness subclass
Would honestly be better that rather than a whole subclass, it's certain powers or fragments that work with Prismatic. And if we do get a whole new darkness subclass, I want it to be more alike what the Witness has long used, the power that not just creates the Taken but furthermore is shown with Resonance. Something that deals with sheer destruction
This is completely disregarding everything, but I had a dream where I was playing with the red subclass and instead of it having abilities like other subclasses, it was built into the weapon itself. I remember using whisper of the worm and it had like 2 traits to it that I could choose. Just writing this down incase my dreams are somewhat right. This dream was about when Forsaken dropped and the place where I was playing was really similar to the pale heart.

I already felt like Nezarec might resurface at some point cause he could exist beyond dying firstly, and he just wanted to be a problem. He had no hang up on using light and dark power in unison. If that man just needs a vessel he could be a prismatic problem later

Imagine we get it directly from nezzy himself. Like he already enjoys watching the havoc we wreck on a daily basis, why not increase the chaos tenfold himself?

I always thought a cool idea for a third darkness subclass would be physical emotions because of the whole immaterial nature of darkness. Have them be designed like stands from jojo

A resonance or a nightmare subclass would be my dream come true
In Buddhism, there are 6 elements; earth, fire, air, water, space and consciousness. In Destiny, we may attribute these to a subclass; fire to Solar, water to Stasis, air to Arc, space to Void and consciousness to Strand.
Consciousness might not be Strand, but given the Lightfall context, descriptions such as River of Souls, ClouDark and the Veil itself, consciousness seems to be represented by Strand. This leaves earth, and people have named such a potential subclass as Resonance. Alternatively, it might be assumed that Strand represents earth, even though it's a rather loose representation when compared to the rest. That leaves consciousness, which is a perfect fit for the Nightmare subclass.
Whether it's Resonance or Nightmare, I hope we'll get a 3rd Darkness subclass, because right now we don't have equilibrium / harmony as there are 3 light and 2 darkness subclasses.

Resonance won't be a darkness subclass just like light isn't one on itself. Nightmares? Maybe, but you know what I'd love? Taken subclass. Ultimate Uno reverse on the hive which got the light. I think what's likely since we've got access to the Dreadnaught and Oryx's corpse. Also just how cool would that be? Titans doing that taken phalanx push, summoning swords, Warlocks making those taken eyes and blights. Literally the coolest thing ever

NIGHTMARE NECROMANCER CLASS! That's what I'm desperately hoping for. I want it to be a mix of Necromancer from Diablo 4 and Necromancer from ESO mixed with Mastermind from City of Heroes.

After Micah said that it was "untapped power of the darkness" I knew for a fact that we are getting a third darkness subclass.
It says "3rd Darkness subclass coming soon" all over it.
