You make it look sooo easy... But... I'm here to tell those of you who are watching-this man is SKILLED! Painting is 90% the painter and his skill, 8% prep, and 2% the gun.. What I'm finding lately on youtube is everyone believes it's 90% the gun.... NOPE.. WRONG... You can buy the best paint gun available but it won't fill the "skills" gap and your paint will look like POO.. It's not a problem as long as you don't mind sanding EVERY coat you put down from primer, to base, to the clear, and then polishing after that.. .EVERY coat you put down is going to require covering every square inch with multiple grades of sand paper, or polishing/buffing pads, and other chemicals... unless you have skills like Garage Noise.. Which I do not. I bought a set of replacement mirrors for my truck and am trying to paint them body color to match. Thank GOD they are small parts (though they do have a lot of angles to them) because I'm having to sand every single coat I apply in an attempt to get everything as flat as possible so it does not look like a 3rd grader painted them with a brush and house paint straight from the can. I have the SprayIt 33500 kit which is supposed to be a decent LVLP gun.. Figuring out those settings though... getting the fan, volume, and air pressure adjusted right, and then the distance from the panel, and the speed at which you move, and the over-lap... These are things ONLY professionals know and understand. Someone should make more videos on what to do AFTER a novice like me has screwed the pooch.. Literally step-by-step instructions for fixing the disasters we create.. These videos would get a lot of likes because after watching videos like this one, and then going out in my garage and DESTROYING everything in sight with globs of paint, and over-spray.. I'm not putting down orange peel-I'm putting down the entire damn orange! I'm the golf ball painter because everything I put paint on looks like a golf ball! For those of you who have not held a paint gun in your hand... imagine trying to paint the plastic head of a push pin with a FIRE HOSE attached to a fire hydrant! That's about the best way I can explain it. When you pull that trigger-you are fogging everything within a 10 foot radius! You better have it all worked out BEFORE you pull that trigger because once the paint starts flowing, it's OH F'***! instantly... Keep up the great work. Videos like this inspire me to go out to my garage and throw paint on everything that is not protected. Maybe one day I'll be able to put down a SINGLE coat that does not require hours of sanding... One day.. Until then I promise I will keep watching in the hopes that all the good information you are sharing will magically flow into me. I'm envious! Subscribed and liked!

🧐I find prep work more important. Bad prep = bad paint job (even w/ a pro).
Absolutely 💯. The best advice I can give personally is light coats LOTS of light coats. Dont be discouraged to resend and do again. It's really an art. Why body work is big bucks.

I have learned so much from you. Your videos are informative and well organized. Thanks for helping to educate us do-it-yourselfers. I notice in many of your videos you use 70% isopropyl alcohol sometimes and wax/grease remover other times. Are they interchangeable? Under what cases do you use one versus the other?
I appreciate the comment! Thank's for supporting the channel! I started using isopropyl alcohol because it's helpinh to eliminate static. I like to use both but not always. They both work fine but the alcohol can be used over raw plastic and body filler so it's a bit more versatile.

Can body filler be used on top of etch?
70 plus alcohol for cleaning before primer and wax & grease removal after prime is fine or alcohol all the time ? Also the guide coat you prefer spray over the have rub on ?

Where do I buy the exact paint color ?
Did you put any adhesion promoter on the bare plastic areas? If not do you think that will affect the paint long term?
If I'm painting a raw plastic bumper I'll use adhesion promoter. If I'm doing a repair and sanding the plastic and it's a small area I won't use it. I've never had a problem but it certainly wouldn't hurt anything to use it. Appreciate the comment and support!

Is possible to use wet on wet filler to cover that putty paches and do like this :
Wet on wet filler(whitout sanding) ,wait 20 30 minutes and apply basecoat and after clear?
I don't use wet on wet but I don't think it's designed to fill chips or imperfections. If you sanded the spots then wet on wet would work . Again I don't have alot of experience with it other than wet on wet sealer and that's not designed to fill. Appreciate the support!
Chris, I appreciate your videos and sharing your knowledge of body work and painting so much. Anytime I need to look up something about a repair or painting I make sure to put “Garage Noise” in the search bar first. So I’m wondering if you can help me out with a little bit of your expertise here. I am currently doing the same project on my GoManGo Dodge Ram Daytonas front bumper. I own a Devilbiss GPG 905012 Gravity HVLP gun and I had paint mixed up by a local auto shop. Thing is the compressor is at my fathers house and I didn’t watch this video before I started messing with the bumper. I’ve done a complete repair on my rear bumper and I sprayed my flares all with aerosol cans last spring and I am yet to have any paint problems. I decided to spray a can of rustoleum high build primer on my bumper to fill the Little Rock chips and scratches and I was able to smooth most it it out. However I noticed that I keep easily burning through the primer in areas. Then I watched this video and I feel like an idiot. I just purchased some icing and the upol primer that you used in this video. In your expert oppinion, should I just take all the primer off and start from the beginning again? Also, I wet sand everything and I noticed you don’t, do you think that’s causing an adhesion problem? I’ve got a million questions for you but I’ll try to just get a little of your knowledge at a time haha. Thanks man, finally subscribed, first CZcams subscription!
Awesome brother appreciate the comment and support. I don't thin you need to strip of the primer you sprayed. However when you apply the upol primer start with a light coat. If you put it on heavy to start with you my have a chemical reaction between the 1k primer and the upol. You won't have an adhesion problem, but build up the upol primer gradually and you'll be good.

Garage noise. I have a question I need to fix a 2022 dodge Cummings back bumber. It has some scratches on the back bumber I want to fix it. Do I do the same steps as you are doing if it's a metal bumber
Yes but if you break thru to bare metal you need to use a direct to metal prime or a metal prep before primer
So I have a question I don’t normally use a gun I mostly use cans how can I blend in the area with out paint the whole part like say a truck bed I don’t want to have to paint the whole thing just to repair a small dent or scratch
Clearing the whole panel is the best option a clearcoat blend will fail. It can be done, but just know you will at some point be able to see that blend. Sometimes you can hide the blend in a small area but that will be difficult on a bedside. I do have a video on blending clearcoat on a bumper. i have a deep scratch on my rear bumper panel. since that part is plastic not metal would a filler eventually crack if that area was impacted/bumped again and cause the filler to crack? Wondering if its just best to replace entire panel for new one and get it painted.does filler work well for both plastic and metal or better for metal?
It work for both, but if it's a large amount of filler you want a flexible filler made for bumpers.

thank you for your fast response. Also, I am thinking of buying spray gun that uses low cfm. My choices are eastwood lt100, astro hvt12 or R500. Which should I pick?
@@montiveros24 the lt 100 and the r500 are the same gun I would choose r500 you can't go wrong.
if i have an 8 gallon compressor do you think i need a specific spray gun or any would be okay? or maybe a bigger compressor?
Probably a bigger compressor or a touch up gun might work with that compressor.
The filler you use for the bumper is different than the one you use for metal parts like a hood ,door?
Yes you can use a flexible filler on bumpers. In most case this is what I use great product and reasonably priced.

Looked in the description for info on your electric vacuum DA and there’s no info there. Can you point me in the right direction? I unfortunately have too small of a compressor to make air sanding practical so I think this is a great alternative.

There's some dry time for primer and filler and paint but other than that a few hours

Most of the time I paint the whole bumper. You can blend clear but the blend will eventually fail. Appreciate the comment and support!

The paint spray is smooth. Is 1.4 mm or 1.3 mm nozzle is better for a newbie?
I believe 1.3 is a better all around size. 1.4 is just going to apply the material faster, but for a newbie can result in orange peel or runs. There's other variables but in general start with 1.3 for base and clear

Is clear base coat same as top coat but no hardener?
No, it's the same as base coat with out the color. It's called binder. It's what is mixed with color pigment to make basecoat.
So yes or no to wax and grease remover? Early on you said you don’t like to use it “here”. Then later you said you’d wash it with wax and grease remover. The only difference is saw was that you had done the glazing filler. There was still a lot of open area of plastic that was no different than before. What’s the reason for not wanting to use it “here”?
on open plastic I prefer to use Isopropyl alcohol. hopes this clears it up. appreciate the support.

I use U-pol gold body filler and honey to make spot putty. I have no more shrinkage or bleeding in the paint.

I'll work with all insurance companies. I work for the customer always with their best intrest in mind. I have a retail shop . What aspect of dealing with insurance companies do you have questions about?

Do you have to do anything different since you are painting flexible plastic vs body sheet metal? Are you using the same paint, hardener, and body filler you would on the body? Or is there some additive to make it more flexible to resist cracking?
You didn’t even need that much filler, could’ve used glaze for those little scratches. Plus you didn’t even need to add more filler when you said it was low.. you could’ve just took it all down to plastic, way faster plus less chance of shrinking up and could’ve used a normal primer to save money from using 2k primer
You can't see the waves in the plastic in a video. Definitely needed filler. There's other ways ot could've been done but it would've taken more time.
Now do you buy the Nason 'proprietary' base-maker reducer (I think it's called) or do you like many of us use a quality Urethane reducer of another brand?? Not asking for secrets I just remember Nason selling it's own reducer you HAVE to use at inflated prices.
Base maker i believe is for the chroma base but that stuff is pricey! With nason i just use any reducer never had an issue.
Its so hard these days because… You get it paint and then someone just scratch it back again 3 days after

If you irder a new one it doesn't come painted so it would still need to be painted. The cost for the customer was about 500.

You are clearly a great paint and body guy....Would it not have saved a bunch of time to just buy the bumper end and shoot it? They're incredibly cheap for that truck...I'm considering the time taken in prep work vs the forty dollars or so buying an end...My guess is you are here to show people how to get stuff done correctly..

Now I’m working on the front back bumper and roof. I don’t see no rust on the roof since she’s a Florida car we don’t get that much. Do I need primer or no rust is seen on the roof. I went down with with 320 grit cause the sun does serious damage here to paint. What do you recommend? I’ll post a video tomorrow or my roof after work.
@@Gone_Rogue300 I would primer the roof with a good 2k primer. This will keep the new paint from soaking in to the old paint creating a nice barrier that give you a perfect surface for the new paint. Appreciate the support!

Not sure what you're referring to, but no tape line in this repair.
It all looks good on camera in a dark room. The question is why he didn't take the car outside and into the sun so we could see it up close in the strong sunlight. Only in sunlight to take a close-up of this now painted part and the panel next to it. Because many people watch the video and say it's a great job, but when you look at it in sunlight, you can see all the flaws. And without polishing and detailing, I don't believe that this is a good job, just spray-painted as it is and it's great, come on
Sometimes I have a feeling that you overdo it and the work is not in pair with the need and the cost of the job. No doubt you are maximalist. I probably think that that front bumper is better then the rest of the factory panels :D. Greetings from Hungary!

All of this just gave me a head ache! Why? I wouldn't of use this method to fix that plastic panel. Ever Heard of Lord Fuzor? #133 or 152 work great for that type panel, best part it wont crack like Filler does, doesn't matter even is its fiberglass filler. seen it pop out and peel.
There's more ways to repair this for sure. Lord fuzor is good evercoat makes a similar product. Lots of different products than can be used this is just one way. Appreciate the comment!
