Two things make a man loyal, respect and fear. The North is the most isolated region of the seven kingdoms after the Iron Islands, so it's natural they on the one hand didn't have so many nobles with connections and sympathies with the crown, and on the other hand they didn't fear the crown because it was a distant threat. The Vale and the Stormlands on the other hand directly border Targaryan lands, and thus rebelling is an immediate threat.
The geography and climate makes the north more similar to Dorne then any other kingdom as if you look closely you will find out that all lords both in North and Dorne will follow their lord in favor of any outsider. Seconndly the north is the only kingdom that had no outsiders ever since the Andal invasion so they are very close knit also Honor makes the kingdom unique where all feudal lords feel the same way as the Starks and are never defiant this can be seen as during Aegon's Invasion, Dance of the Dragon and War of the Five Kings (The problems during the last one was due to Robb's idiocy).
I can't believe that they actually won the war. I bet both Robert and Ned thought their chances was slim. And the fact that Robert managed to gather his army and win multiple battles while marching his army through half the continent to meet up with the northern army
Robert was a darn good general and one of the best fighers in the Kingdoms in his prime, rebellion likely wouldn't have succeeded if it wasn't carried by him. Shame that he made such a bad King
He was doing the bare minimum to show that he is on the Targaryen side while also staying out of the war as much as possible. He besieged Storm’s End, never actually attacked it and just waited how the rebellion would pan out.
I like how this goes to show how the mighty can fall. Coming here right after watching Aegon's Conquest almost makes me feel sad for Robert winning the Throne. Aegon fought so much to unite the Seven Kingdoms, and just like that his work is taken from his House. Great video.
He didn't fight to unite the 7 kingdoms, they were still split just as much. He burned millions of people to death with his dragons so he could rule over everyone he thought was underneath him.
Sort of like Rurik in real life and the origin story of modern Russia - a bad@ss warrior from far across the sea conquers a foreign land with an army of conscripts. He's so successful he unites a land for the first time previously divided by interfighting tribes and hordes. His dynasty, the Rurikids, lasts for nearly 1000 years shaping the nations that would become modern Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. At some point along the way they dropped their native viking culture and become Russified. From underdog to gods among men, the entire dynasty ends suddenly at the hands of the Mad king, Ivan the Terrible, who kills his only heir and decimates his own dynasty through paranoia. Following this a succession war with many pretender kings rages for years before a new King wins against all, the first Romanov King. I know many dynastic stories are the same but I always found it interesting.
If only Ned sat on the throne it would be known as Ned's rebellion. It was HIS sister who was kidnapped and his father, and brother who were killed by the King. I'm sure the Mad King really wanted Jon to send him Ned, Robert was just an extra add on.
Robert still did a lot more of the fighting. Look at all the battles in the video. They all took about Robert. Ned really only took part in the bells and the trident
It has been years since I played Warlight. I remember playing Diplo games all the time on that site. It is odd to see one of its maps here after so long.
Why are the Dornish Marches red again? Didn't the Marcher lords support Robert? Fell, Cafferen and Grandison aren't marcher lords if i'm not mistaken. And if they aren't mentioned specifically, isn't it safe to assume they answered Robert's call? Amazing video otherwise, I just have an autistic fascination with the Marcher Lords
Great video again, but why did Skagos join the Rebllion only when Dorne surrendered? :)) Or did you just throw that in there at the end because you forgot?
Cody Stanford This map was made by Warlight user Limalia_786 and took about one year to make (I don't know how many hours a month was spent on it but I'd say it probably took upwards of 150 hours altogether). It was made for the purpose of playing Warlight (go to the web page if you haven't heard of it) and was repurposed for this video using photoshop and paint.
Westerosi feudal society - Lyanna did not have the right to go off willingly with anyone, particularly not with a man already married and with children of his own. House Stark had already promised her to Robert Baratheon. Marriage is one of the most important factors for gaining power and cementing alliances in Westeros, and a Great House cannot stand by when it's only daughter is "stolen" from them. When Brandon and then Richard Stark go to King's Landing to demand an answer for this breach of custom, the Mad King effectively executes them both. Basically an entire continent is plunged into 30 years of conflict resulting in the deaths of millions upon millions, in order for our protagonists to uphold their right in enforce contract marriages.
@Mark Walsh: No. It is not caused by some right to enforce marriage. They ask for their daughter/sister to see if she is allright, or not. They have not yet forbidden any new marriage. All they do is defend the woman, their family member. There are no phones, they cannot check any other way but go and ask. Instead of summoning his son, and find out the truth, the mad king kills the warden of the north and his son. Moreover he threatens to kill the new Lord Stark and his planned brother in law, the lord Baratheon. Their "adopted" father, the lord of the Vale, and their father in law, the lord of the Riverlands, come to their aid. It is all the mad king's fault. The mad king killed the warden of the north, and ordered the arrest of the new lord Stark, instead of handing out justice. You do not kill people for asking about their daughter/sister.
Let's honour the forgotten rebel, Stannis Baratheon.
Let's not honour daughter burner

The only Vale lord we know who supported the crown was house Grafton. Not sure why you portray the corbrays and others going against Jon Arryn.
Lyn Corbray fought the Arryns at Gullown (from Alayne)
House Greyjoy joined the rebellion?
They were trying to get a share of the spoils.
Then they rebelled again, six years later.

But didn't Lyanna willingly go with Rhaegar? This must've been a huge mistake.
I think it's a reference to Greek mythology. Troy was besieged following Paris's "capture" of the king's daughter.
That's why he used quotation marks for abduction.
