- Official trailer for the film THE DAMNED: Don't You Wish That We Were Dead, the authorized documentary of the punk pioneers. Directed/produced by Wes Orshoski (co-director/producer of "LEMMY"), the film features all four original members of the Damned (Captain Sensible, Dave Vanian, Brian James and Rat Scabies), plus appearances by Chrissie Hynde (Pretenders), Mick Jones (The Clash), Steve Diggle (Buzzcocks), actor/comedian Fred Armisen, Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Duff McKagan (Guns N Roses), Lemmy Kilmister (Motorhead), Jack Grisham (T.S.O.L.), Keith Morris (Black Flag/Circle Jerks/OFF!), Dexter Holland (The Offspring) and many more. Shot around the world over the past four years, the film makes its debut at SXSW in March 2015. The third prong in the holy trinity of UK punk, with the Sex Pistols and the Clash, The Damned were the first U.K. punks to release a single ("New Rose") and album ("Damned Damned Damned"), and the first to tour the U.S. Having logged hits in the punk, new wave and goth eras, they are one of the only surviving bands from punk’s first wave.

Punk isn't a contest. It's not about battle of the bands. However the Damned are one of the very few who have stayed absolutely superb as they span the decades.
THE DAMNED IS AND FOREVER THE BEST PUNK BAND EVER!!!
Brian James is quite frankly overlooked in the scheme of things. Grossly underrated musician.
+MENSFORTHHILL99 You are quite right he`s a great `feel` guitarist and The Damned have been sort of left out of punk rock history.
He could have been effing big if the booze hadn't got him!
Easily one of the greatest rock bands of all-time....Screw punk, new wave, goth, and every other genre The Damned were considered a part of. In the end, "Machine Gun Etiquette", "The Black Album", and "Strawberries" are three of the greatest albums ever recorded by man. As for their debut "Damned, Damned, Damned" LP it took me 2 seconds when I was a 14 year old kid to realize that The Damned were the TRUE '77 UK Punk band despite the media hype which propelled the S. Pistols into infamy. The Damned probably influenced more underground bands than ANY other '77 punk group. They refused to let themselves get boxed into one genre and because the band always consisted of superior musicians (Brian James, Algy Ward, Paul Gray, Roman Jugg, etc.) in addition to the core brilliance of Captain Sensible, Dave Vanian, and Rat, they were able to go in directions few "punk" groups had the chops to pursue. Plus they were absolute music fanatics and weren't afraid to incorporate psyche, 60's Brit-pop, 60's garage rock, 70's crazies like Hawkwind, Pink Fairies, as well as all the classic MC5, Stooges, The Up, etc. material into their sound. I just hope this documentary TRULY does them justice.
I absolutely love The Damned, by far my favourite band of all time. This documentary finally gave them the recognition they deserved all along.
The most eagerly awaited music documentary for years and they deserve it, a true British force of nature that has stood the test of time, go and see them and you will agree.
I consider" Strawberries" their absolute meisterwerk with "Machine gun etiquette" a close second.
I can hardly wait to see this! I just bought my tickets for the screening in my area. The Damned are still one of my absolute favourite bands!
Absolutely my favorite band!! I met and partied with them at The Tropicana in Hollywood... KROQ was interviewing Captain Sensible, and I was just a kid
The Damned playing/destroying 'Help' in a teacher training college at a halloween party in Keswick near Norwich1976. Changed my life. Bring on the film.
Great documentary, saw it last night, it covers all the era's well (nice new version of 'Curtain Call'), with lots I didn't know and lots that I'd forgotten about. Also explains the current in fighting (ie. Sensible vs Scabies). I'd recommend going to watch it.
Beautiful! I've watched this trailer 4 times...got me all misty eyed. Finally! Thank you Wes, thank you Damned!
I’d never really looked into The Damned until I saw them open for Blondie earlier this year. It was so fucking good, and now I’m down a rabbit hole and feeling so lucky to have seen them while simultaneously so sad that they’re STILL now opening for people. They definitely deserve more recognition.
Amazing that none of them were killed or institutionalized. They would set fire to their tour bus on their way to a gig, and worse. The other bands were largely contrived, but these boys lived it.
True musicians these guys sure know how to play their instruments ,pure talent totally underrated
Went to see them again three weeks ago (for the kazillianth time) and they are still a great live band who play bloody great, fun and funny tunes from the start to finish of their set, they are always over too quickly and leave me wanting more.
God (don't) bless the Damned! I love them, Damned unto death!!!!
Machine Gun Etiquette is the best.
2nd best punk album of all time.
Forsure
the damned as goth rock, post punk band?.that one too i'll have also.'phantasmagoria' awesome cool shit album.still is.
I certainly hope this doc doesn't rip on their 1980-85 period of more commercial, and polished Goth/Post-Punk material. IMHO that is some of their most compelling work, and it seems like every hardcore fan hates that material. Strawberries, The Black Album, Phantasmagoria, and Anything were all really excellent albums. The less we talk about the mid-90's the better though.
Phantasmagoria was so dark and wonderful!! I love all of them though, but partial to that one.
Heather Gordon It's also really consistent. There really isn't a bad or out of place song on it!
Anything was very under rated and I've been a Damned fan for far too long!!
Everyone should check out So Who's Paranoid, some of their best work, a good mixture of what The Damned are really all about.

MGE is the best but Strawberries is still my favourite Damned album..
Favorite band hands down.
Beautiful! Can't wait to see this.
Seen them live in early 80s and again 2017. Have a lot of their early stuff on vinyl and later stuff too. From the first album to look who's paranoid, brilliant band.
Some of the best rock n Roll ....Ever......
Holy shit! When? Where? How do we get our eyes and ears on this doc???
Gave me goosebumps - can't wait
I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS!!! I LOVE THE DAMNED!!!
Brilliant, go see it if it's showing at a cinema near you!!
First band I saw live. Manchester Apollo, 1980,the same night John Lennon was murdered. I was 13. Chris Millar is a great drummer.
Pour moi, le plus grand groupe de l'histoire du rock !
...about time!!!
:-)
I just saw this and not knowing that much about The Damned it was fucking awesome. Go see it at your local indie theater.
Saw it last night. Loved it
and they keep on getting BETTER!
My fave is “black album “
But you must remember “naz nomad and the nightmares “
Amazing sixtees cover
Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!
please release it in JAPAN as well !
WOW!!! This looks amazing!!! I AM THERE!!!!
I can't wait to see this!
Y'know I've been a fan of The Damned since 1984, followed them on tour lumped in their gear for them when they were skint, went to the chippy for them etc.
I couldn't give a flying fuck for this documentary, its just a piece of second hand reviews of a period that has gone told by jaded people. Thats not how I want to remember them . . . I thought it was a really crappy documentary. It just was a big butch between old members. It didn't show the fun or great anecdotes of some of the wild times. I think the band deserved more. They're the best Rock n Roll band ever ♠️⚡🖤
I fucking love these fellas!
they are coming to Toronto in April 2017!...first time in 14 years!...
Dave Vanian was one of the scariest singers during the 1970's and 80's (up there with Alice Cooper, Steve Strange, and David Sylvian). Name another performer in which their wives looked like them (and I was told that we should like what the other person wants).
The Sound of Croydon ! (TSOC)
I am so excited!!!
Lemmy approved! Go buy Damned Damned Damned and crank that fucker up!!!!!!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!
Chicago!!!! When????? DVD???? I'll buy it NOW!!
DAMNED DAMNED DAMNED,Machine Gun Etiquette and The Black Album
Thank anyone who turns you onto those albums!
Just a great rock n roll band, up there with the best. Couldn’t give a shiney shite about anything, love them to bits!!
ADORE
must see!
Amazing! Can't wait
I am in love !
Oh HALE yes!!! Bring it!!
So sick!
YES!
Yes Keith Morris!
Seeing this.
is there a tribute band of the damned called 'the goddamned'?.if not yet i wanna be on it.
Don Letts, creeping around every corner, he turns up on EFFING everything, the reality is that most people tried to avoid him as he always had his effing tape recorder or cine 8 running, and his little St Martins mates following him around, he was like that Colin kid in the Harry Potter movies.
Great trailer! Neat Neat Neat indeed...
Anyone know if this will be screening in the UK? Or available on disk?
Damn, they're coming to my city in 2017, and I probably can't go, because I got no one to go with. Praying I can find someone my age with similar music tastes by May!
you should just show their music to your friends, maybe some of them will like it.
stevie newendyke mate I saw them tonight the where awsome
Hooray.
I would like to see this film
Forever Damned!
Alright, they better put this out already. Lemmy's gone and he's in it. It'll sell. Sad but true.
+Langelier Fabrice Been following this for over a year now. I .. want.. to .. see.. the .. (fucking) .. movie already. Missed the NYC screening last summer.

It's not on DVD where I can watch it and show my friends how they've missed out on life so far because they don't know the Damned. I can't brag about owning the DVD and it's affecting my hipster points so in my eyes it's not out yet.
where can i watch this free? i tried ordering it on ebay but i had to wait for 2 month delivery 😕
Born out of a time when disaffected youth had better ideas than nicking basmati rice from Tesco, come & watch the mayhem some of us have known for nearly 40 yrs. Oh and by the way there's only 1 year since 1976 when The Damned have not played live.
where can i watch it?
When????........ Come on, don't keep secrets!!!
Was Algy Ward interviewed for this? Machine Gun Etiquette is their best release IMO
+UneedaMedicalSupply He told me he refused to be interviewed when I saw him in The Bedford(my local pub) the other week, and yes Machine Gun Ettiquette is the best album The Damned made
+Chefdicedfoot Ah that's too bad, thanks for the info though. I've always wondered how Algy feels about his stint with The Damned (and The Saints), considering it wasn't for very long. Tank is a classic band in their own right, and that's his band, so I'm sure that's the legacy he is more proud of.
💃
Original lineup only, thanks.
the first wave of punk rules o.k.
Where the fakk can we get a copy of that documentary?! I wrote an email to the company; they never answered it. So, now I'm asking everyone.
This looks fantastic, but please, please, please, for the love of god run a deinterlace filter on some of that footage, there's no excuse for a documentary to contain that in this day and age.
$$$ Happy Commercialized HolidayTime $$$
Rat seems a little... "bitter" if I understand the use of that word. Looks like an awesome movie though.
Fuck yes.
what is name of song ?
neat neat neat
when the f*** does this come out?!
Coolio.
Fucking A!
Who is the grumpy geezer at the beginning?
the amazing rat scabies-he was even grumpy as a teenager
what he said was so punk that it made me cringe
He was always consistent
They were the original
My mate's dad 😂😂😂
only thing that let this down is to many interviews with Yanks & lets face it they have never really understood punk etc properly uk working class (like everything else from the uk they don't)
This movie kinda makes captian and Dave look like asses...
I met them...they're not. They're great!! Captian got in trouble so I could talk to Dave. Just some random girl bugging him before the show. No special tickets or anything.
I saw them last night in LA at the Fonda. SO good and they just keep getting better.
carnage747 I know right!! I saw them in Denver last week. Captian is 64 and Dave is 62. They put on one HELL of a show. They had the energy of 25 year olds. Best show I've ever seen!!
@@honeycatacomb1191 Even people I know thats never seen them before, cause they're a "I Only see HC bands only" people are hooked on them once they see them live. Glad you had a great time !
Bandwagon Jumpers, complete rip off of The Ramones sound. The Sex Pistols were first, best & most original. The Damned will never be regarded as groundbreaking. Pistols formed in 1975 8 months before The Damned did in 1976. The Damneds first gig was SUPPORTING The Pistols!!! Then they took the first offer they got just to get a single out first. Everyone knows the Pistols were the band that started the movement.
Er NO they were first, first UK punk single, first UK punk album, the pistols were just a boy band put together by McLaren. The best UK sounds came from the Clash, Damned, Buzzcocks and the PIL
WednesfieldFCLadies ahahahahah you complete, and utter, tosser!!!!!
The Damned ripped-off the Ramones?!? You need new ears, my friend.
Do your homework
Yeah, you idiot....New Rose, first punk single.....Damned Damned Damned was out before 'Bollocks'......And as for Anarchy in the UK, I'm with the Captian on that one....."It was really slow, we all fell about laughing when we heard it....it was like Bad Company B-side with Old man Steptoe singing over it! " :-)
The Pistols were fucking shit compared to The Damned
All you care about is the F word
