    The Scott Lumen eRIDE caused quite the stir when it debuted at the tail end of last year. Featuring a striking carbon chassis based on the excellent Scott Spark, the Lumen doesn't just hide its shock inside the frame, but a compact TQ motor and a slim 360Wh battery as well. It still manages to boast an incredible claimed weight of just 15.5kg in its top-end trim, making it easily the stealthiest and lightest electric mountain bike we have ever seen.
    As impressive as it is, the Lumen still left us scratching our heads. It's not exactly big on travel, and it also comes fitted with dainty XC tyres. Along with the TwinLoc remote-controlled suspension, the Lumen takes quite a different approach to other lightweight e-MTBs like the Trek Fuel EXe, Orbea Rise and Specialized Levo SL. Does different equal better? We've been riding the Scott Lumen for the past couple of months to see if this unique e-MTB could enlighten us.

    The high price makes this prohibitive. However, I think light weight e-bikes are going to disrupt the full power market pretty soon and you can only get better by pushing the envelope. This is what I see Scott doing here.

    I have the 910 eride lumen and what a pleasure to ride a bike like this, perhaps I'll replace the wheels but don't have any idea of what are the best for a bike like this.

    great review....can you tell us what adjustments are available to the head tube? what angles? and what does it do to the reach? thanks again!

    • @FlowMountainBikeYouTube
      @FlowMountainBikeYouTube  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Certainly can!
      The Lumen comes fitted with the offset 0.6-degree headset cups that are oriented in the slack position (65.5°). If you pull out and rotate both cups within the head tube, this will steepen the angle by 1.2-degrees (66.7°).
      There is also a set of 0-degree headset cups that can be installed to provide you with a setting in between (66.1°).
      The beauty about this adjustment is that it doesn't significantly impact the rest of the bike's geometry. So the reach and seat angle remain much the same.
      I left the Lumen set in the slack position during the test period, but I have experimented with the adjustment on both the Genius and the Spark. There's actually a video of us performing the adjustment in the Spark review here: czcams.com/video/o6hQuEZwuyk/video.html
      Hope that helps explain, though just give me a yell if you've got any other questions mate!

    Great review Wil, the Lumen would be perfect for cruising around my local trails in the Plenty Gorge or at Lysterfield. Based on your review the bike seems more downhill capable- xc than XC, still being called the Lumen it should come with a light like the Patron 😂

    Great review! I am a below the knee amputee so have no pedal feel on my left side. I currently ride a Scott 940 carbon hardtail and do pretty well on medium difficulty trail rides only occasionally slipping off the pedal. How closely does this geometry match up to the Scott 940?

    • @FlowMountainBikeYouTube
      @FlowMountainBikeYouTube  Před 6 měsíci

      Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the review! I think the geometry will be a little different to the Scale, in that the Lumen has a longer reach and wheelbase, and will also be taller at the front. It'll feel a bit more relaxed in the riding position, and of course a lot more comfortable in terms of the full suspension platform. Otherwise the sizing should match up pretty closely - if you're a Medium in the Scale, you should be the same size in the Lumen.
      Hope that helps!

    Can't wait to see how many people hate this bike without even riding it. Let alone even seeing it in person.
    My spark is my favorite bike I've ever owned. And boy, it would sure be cool if it had a motor lol. And that's coming from someone who regularly races XC.

    • @FlowMountainBikeYouTube
      @FlowMountainBikeYouTube  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I must admit I was pretty skeptical before my first ride on the Lumen! It ended up being an absolute blast to ride though, and also exhausting - I loved how fast it made me want to ride!
      Very familiar feeling to the Spark, albeit with better stability and deeper feeling suspension. And of course you can ride faster and further with the motor's assistance. For the e-Curious XC rider, a bike like this would be a great option.

      Have it not even 2weeks. So far 400km on it, and love it. Until now I was biking on a Yeti SB115, but decided for this due to last years hip surgery, as during this year I see that normal bike is still putting too much pressure on the hip if climbing too much. Using it on eco only. Turning motor off if no steep climbs. On steep ones the motor helps a lot, yet you still have to pedal a lot.

    Is it possible to replace rear brake pads on this thing easily or you have to remove the caliper from the frame to do so?

    • @FlowMountainBikeYouTube
      @FlowMountainBikeYouTube  Před 9 měsíci

      I've not tried myself, but it's a standard Shimano 4-piston brake so you should be able to remove the pads without unbolting the whole brake calliper. [Wil]
