Never got to see Deep Purple live, but was fortunate enough to see Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and then Whitesnake in 81. After the Whitesnake/Iron Maiden/Priest show went over to the old Holiday Inn Rivermont in downtown Memphis and hung out in the bar (in those days the performers would go to either the Rivermont or Hyatt East). Was around 1am, Jon Lord came in and sat down a few seats away. Never asked for an autograph, just talked and gave him some space to be real. He was a kind soul, great memories. Continue to explore, this era and genre of music has some great stuff! (oh yeah, Whitesnake did perform Lazy, truly cool moment when that keyboard intro faded in!)
RIP Jon Lord the master of the overdriven Hammond Organ, this song has one of my favourite opening riffs. The Machine Head album has four of my favourite Deep Purple songs (Highway Star, Smoke On The Water, Lazy and Space Truckin'), and sounds as good now as it did in 1972.
Growing up they played 'Smoke' so many times, every person wanting to play guitar learned that riff - it was easy to get burnt out on. Now so many years later without the constant reminding of it, it once again becomes a pleasure to hear and listen for the little details. As for those others - yes - cream of the crop.
Are you familiar with William Shatner's version of Space Truckin'?
@@notedrockhistorian4382 OMG I just went and listened to it. Shatner sounds like too much Romulan ale and the group playing the music sounds like the same mix used for Sheryl Crow - All I wanna Do.
Johnny Winter on slide guitar. The whole album is really great. Using well known musicians is what makes it so.
John Lord got that sound by running the Hammond B-3 through Marshall guitar amplifiers instead of the Leslie speaker cabinet.
The Machine Head album is one of the GOAT's. Not a bad track on it.
I was 6yrs old when I was first introduced to the album (1976) I have uncles 7,8,9yrs older

You love this original studio version, Aileen, you've got to experience the live one from the Made In Japan album. The band was on fire!
Made in Japan was the first GREAT live album. Every song is better than the studio version.
FUN FACT: The live version of Smoke on the Water off Made in Japan made the top 40 songs in the US before the studio version! The song got very little exposure on the radio until Made in Japan came out. And now it's considered one of the most important songs in rock history!
@@LiveFromThePorcelainPalace The Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore East was the first GREAT live album. Made in Japan was great too but came later.
@@axandio yeah... if you're the type who marries your cousin
MIJ was my first Deep Purple Album. I still think about Ian Paice's single kick speed peddling during his solo on M.U.L.E.
@@LiveFromThePorcelainPalace Do what?
As a 65 year old I can say I love your reviews… full of enthusiasm. It feels good watching a much younger person loving the music I grew up with.
Incidentally, this track and the whole album Machine Head was recorded in a hotel lobby.
This is Mark 2 Deep Purple. I saw them at least four times. I also saw Mark 3 twice. I never saw Mark 4 with Tommy Bolin. Mark 4 produced “Come Taste The Band” considered by many as not a Deep Purple album, even though it is very good. For me though the Mark 2 set up was the best. The last time I saw them was with Steve Morse about 6 years ago, they were brilliant. And what can I say about the man in black Ritchie Blackmore? Fuxxing genius.
That's how we used to roll back in the day. Real musicians reacting to each other to create musical glory. No click tracks, no artificial autotune..... This is the real deal. Only saw them once in concerts back in the 80s, and they were so good!
… „Lazy" is also an absolute masterpiece 💎 ... Rock - Blues that is awesome !! Deep Purple has a lot of good songs ... especially from 1969-1975. 🎸🎹🥁🎤 Thank you
Deep Purple was such a staple of my early teens years. Everyone cruising around in their first beater cars blasting "Smoke On The Water" "Highway Star" and "Woman From Tokyo". Oh man, thanks for bringing those memories back😉
For me it may be one of their best songs, love Deep Purple, always my preferred hard rock group
WHAT an album.
Landmark in British rock history.
Landmark in world wide Rock music.
Machine Head is THE album that most bands strive to record but very few succeed in doing so.
First time I see you really moving to a song. Awesome. Deep Purple is one of my top 5 favorite bands off all time. No other sound like them.
As an amateur keyboard player Jon Lord was one of the inspirations that made me want to learn to play. His work on this tune proves why. RIP Jon Lord.
Jon Lord was definitely not an amateur keyboard player. Right?
@@Vinterfrid No the amateur is me. Mr. Lord was a master of the instrument. :)
Im born in ´64 and Deep Purple was my favorite band in 70s.
Another great band playing RB is Dr. Feelgood. Great memories from my youth.
Cheers from Denmark
I was absolutely glued to your reaction….so animated. You made a grumpy old man very happy because it’s so good to see you enjoying music that I grew up listening to and is beginning to become appreciated for what it is…pure rock, played by virtuoso musicians. This song is the essence of Deep Purple, a band (like Lovebites) who really showed their true worth on stage. Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore, backed by Ian Paice and Roger Glover could play “Lazy” three nights in a row and it would not only be almost completely different each time but might be a tad shorter or, more often, up to twice as long as the original. Although the band had ceased to exist when I discovered them (Ritchie was breaking new ground with Ronnie James Dio) I did see them after the first reunion and was in the audience for Ritchie’s last ever performance with the band (30 years ago). Once he left, so did I. Not sure but I don’t remember you reacting to the next incarnation of the band (Deep Purple Mk 3) for which I would recommend the song Burn, and suggest you do a little reading up beforehand because it was a slight change in direction but, personally, I now think it was the high point of the band’s career.
For me there are two words the totally describe this song. PURE ENERGY. Saw them when they toured for this album. One of the all time high energy shows I've ever been to.
Excellent reaction Aileen!! It's such a joy to watch you smile and dance around. So sweet
Aileen, watching you actually raised my blood pressure. In a good way. Your joy for this tune is contagious. Brought back memories of me buying this album in 1972. I was 19 and in a band. Lazy became an instant favorite. Still is for me. Thank you so very much for your honest reactions. God bless you, girl. Keep rockin' and stay groovy!
Ian Paice the drummer never gets enough credit, one of the best ever
I had the pleasure of seeing these guys in Honolulu (HIC) in 1975(6) when they came back from their Made in Japan tour... 4th row.. Loudest concert I ever been to.. and it was awesome. Ears rang for 3 days.. but wow...
Lazy is an awesome song 🎵 😊
Beautiful reaction as always Aileen! ❤
I thought I was going crazy at first in the beginning too and thought the audio was being a stinker 😭 Even though the title is “Lazy”, listening to that intro made me wanna get all groovy with how fun it was listening to it!! You describing it as ‘chaotic’ is on point cause one way they’re taking you with the guitars and *BAM* something else entirely comes in 😭 It’s honestly like a madhouse at a carnival with how over the place it is and how much fun it was listening to it! Man was going in with the harmonica like?? As always, it’s so cute watching you have fun with these reacts, especially towards the ending where you threw your hands up 🥹❤️
Great reaction, Aileen! 70's Rock is some of the best music out there. Another great band is Nazareth, and "Miss Misery" is an Absolute Banger from 1975. Thanks again!
You should give a listen to the live version of this song off Made in Japan. In fact... you should give a listen to that whole album!
Deep Purple was the greatest live jam band of their era!!!

As should every reactor to Deep Purple. Really missing something if they don't. I MEAN REALLY MISSING.
She would never survive the full live album..
This has been on my playlist since 1972. My favorite song to just enjoy and make me feel good, the organ riff at the beginning sends a tingle up my spine every time.
Oh I love it when Aileen starts moving. Something about the way she moves is mesmerising to men haha. Lazy is certainly not what a laymen would expect of one of the pioneers of metal but they had a huge variety to their catalogue.
Hi! I just discovered your channel, because of your reactions to Depp Purple. You had to check these girls. The band is called The Warning. It's a power trio of 3 Mexican sisters.
The Made in Japan live version is the best version of Lazy. In fact it has the best version of every Machine Head track on it. A rare outing for Glover's Rickenbacker bass on Lazy.
The best hard rock band all time
I was so lucky to 'grow up' with this around me and discovering my love for rock when the 'masters' were most all blues-based musicians taking it to the next level.
One track, I think, shows the band in full flight, is from the album Deep Purple in Rock, Hard Lovin Man! There’s ear candy to me!
I saw them in 2008. I was born a few years too late to have seen them in their heyday. A couple of hidden gems are "Hard Lovin' Man" and "No One Came"
I just love to see the joy on the younger generations faces when they discover the music that I grew up with! Lots more to come.
This album was one of my badges of honour when going to school. I was 14 years old, and if I may say so, your reaction was an absolute delight. My problem is that at the the time I had a girlfriend who was not unlike your most gorgeous self. But she moved in exactly the way you moved whilst the music played. Thank you for transporting this old man back to his youth once more.
Wow,DP is the best of all the best👏👏👏Thank u for sharing,Aileen🥰🥰🥰
Great reaction as always and this one is back-to-back on that iconic Machine Head album with another Deep Purple fan-favorite, Space Truckin.
Love to hear your reaction to Burn!!.. You'll love the main character...
Your facial expressions are as exciting as "Lazy". Terrific. I'd love to see more of it.
I have this vinyl LP and' Deep Purple In Rock' too. Listen to all cuts.Peace.
I'm so glad you got around to this song! Another of their songs I think you would love is Hush. It is a cover of an early song, and has since been covered many times. It's such a catchy tune, and I suspect you will have heard the song before, but thought that it was a Kula Shaker song or something.
Wow, watching you dance to this took me back to the ‘70s when we danced to Deep Purple as contemporary music. Thank you so much, it’s fun to see your youthful energy and cheerful spirit.
Favorite Purple tune. Made it into home videos as a kid and adult! Have this on OG press vinyl (thanks Dad)!
the vibe i get from lazy is = the way they start it slow its like the music is waking up hahaha and than its finally kicking its alive and at work or play = my fav purple song is mitzy dupree = hell of a story - he talks about his adventures in a northern mining town - its a true story hehehehe
Your the cutest wheel spinner ever! Deep Purple is/was a FANTASTIC band!
Hi Aileen. Here are a few suggestions of Deep Purple songs you should consider reacting to:
- Woman From Tokyo
- Pictures of Home
- No No No
- Rat Bat Blue
- Hard Lovin' Man
- Fireball
- Black Night
- Bloodsucker
- Mistreated
Cheers!
Perfect reaction to a Purple "Jam."
Please do “Place in Line”. A 6:30 ode to standing in line. My second favorite DP tune after Lazy. You will not be disappointed!
Aileen
Both late great Jon Lord, keyboardist and Ritchie Blackmore, guitarist of Deep Purple are awesome in this song together. Live version is so iconic!!!
Nice choice Aileen!
My favourite deep purple song. John lord doing what he does best may he rest in peace.
Glad to see your reacting to Deep Purple again! Always good. If you haven't reacted to the song 'Highway Star' yet that should definitely be your next Deep Purple reaction!
Love your reactions Aileen and the joy that the music I was bought up on brings you. Another deep purple track to listen to is ‘Strange kind of woman’ but the live version off ‘Made in Japan’. I think you will love it. ❤
Hi …70 year old man here…Thanks for playing 1 of trilogy rock bands!
Around 96 Richie Blackmore and his wife Candice Night formed Blackmore's Knight. It's a Renaissance Folk band. If you like Jethro Tull's mid 70s work you might like them. Not asking for a reaction just recommending you give them a listen.
Try Under a Violet Moon.
Watching you dance around to this put a smile on my face. I had a friend living with me that slept in until 10 am one morning. I had this song cued up just before the lyrics started and hit play when she got up. She got so pissed at me for saying she was Lazy. Anyway, thanks for the great reaction!
MAN THIS IS SO GOOD. PERIOD.
Deep purple are consider by some as speed metal OG’s checkout Mistreated with DP’s third lead singer David Cloverdale. California Jam 1974 live✌🏻
Of those which you haven’t done ‘ Burn’ and ‘Stormbringer’ are my favourite DP songs.
I have been so hung over and this song came on and ith all that lazy hungover feeling I was up dancing around by the end of the song.
Love the joy and genuine appreciation you show while reacting to the music I grew up with, Aileen!❤
It's fun to see your reactions to my favorite songs from the Head Machine album, I like your video about Deep Purple, thank you
I saw “The Wall” concert in 1980 and 2 shows from this tour and to this day I still get chills listening to them!!!❤️👌👍✌️😁
Those were the years 60s, 70s & early 80s.
The battle of the best lead guitarist.
Blackmore (Deep Purple), May (Queen), Page (Led Zeppelin), Iommi (Black Sabatth), Carlton (Nazareth), Santana (Santana), Jimi Hendrix, John Mayall, Eric Clapton,... etc

I was born in the golden era of music 1960 and today i am a happy young man on my 64 yrs old.
And the only good band we have now is POETS OF THE FALL because they are still playing today.
My obscure favorite!
a landmark album, superlative, the mastery of Ritchie Blackmore
march 1972: 52 years ago... now you know kids why we don't give a f... about what's is out on air today!
Thank You!! You acknowledged Roger at around 3:00. Hell! I think you loved all of this. And for that. I love YOU! 🙂 What the...??? Watched several of your reactions earlier. Loved them all. And now I see I haven't subbed. Well. Fixed that.
Space Trucking from the Made in Japan album will knock you out of your chair. This is a live version of that song.
Great Aileen listening to this - made in Japan the live album first album I bought as a teenager in 1978 don’t let it be forgotten
"Is that an organ?"
That is Jon Lord
....and Deep Purple
She's doing a good job because she is really opened. Martin, 67years old
Deep Purple has such a vast catalog of music to dive into from 1968... Remember, they've had 5 vocalists sing for the band (including bassist/ co-vocalist Glenn Hughes)... But the most iconic line-up was this one (Mark II) w/ Ian Gillan (vocals), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Jon Lord (keyboards), Ian Paice (drums) and Roger Glover (bass)... 🤘🤘Which helped define hard rock and metal music. Everyone knows the riff for 'Smoke on the water'... just iconic track 🔥🔥
Check out more of Deep Purple w/ Ian Gillan - 'Fireball' ... 'Woman from Tokyo'... 'Perfect strangers' ... 'Pictures of home' ... 'The battle rages on' ... 'Sometimes I feel like screaming' ... 'Bloodsucker' ... "Knocking at your back door"
With original singer Rod Evans - 'Hush' ... 'Lalena'
With interim singer Joe Lynn Turner (also of Rainbow) - 'The cut runs deep' ... 'King of dreams'
With singer David Coverdale (and bassist/ vocalist Glenn Hughes) - 'Mistreated' ... 'Soldier of fortune' ... 'Lady double dealer' ... 'Sail away'... "Comin' home"
They're incredible live. Just for something a little different, maybe Perfect Strangers when they reunited
the song's smokin'. the lady's smokin'. it's hot in here.
these guys are my all time favs
Each member of this band was top tier, but together - more than the sum of their parts. Simply amazing!
Deep Purple is one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Machine Head is one of the greatest rock albums of all time. 🤘✌💙👏
Agreed
hey again lil’ lady Aileen!
oh yeah… more Deep Purple.
must’ve been some nice kush!
solo trade offs - 🔥!
good jam… good reaction lil’ lady @Eileen!
more live SRV - pleeez lil’ lady @Aileen??!!
Hi Aileen,
Deep Purple, is one of the best bands in history and the Machine Head album is a masterpiece.
Another song from this album is Space Truckin!!!
Cheers from Chile!!!
Basically what every one else wrote. I just love watching your reactions. So I’m reacting to your reaction! Lol❤️❤️
finally a girl who loves Bass, we bassists are too often ignored
I absolutely love your reaction to this, i end up doing the same thing everytime 😊
I swear I saw those same dance moves back in the early 70's.. Jon Lord on that Hammond Organ !!!
Great reaction to a great song by them!
I saw them when they toured after Machine Head. I lived in NYC so we got to see everyone. I was amazing. amazing,, amazing.... Other songs on Machine Head I loved were Space Trucking, Smoke on the Water, Highway Star...
Great reaction, Aileen! I loved your enthusiasm for this song. One of the best, if not the best, intros to a song ever! Fantastic musicians showing their talent. I also agree with other comments that the "Made In Japan" version is a must listen :)
The organ is played through an overdriven Marshall guitar amp, hence the crazy sound.
Get it girl
Hi, Aileen. I just wanted to tell you that I'm really enjoying your reactions. I'm a 73 year old rock bass player. It totally warms my heart to see someone your age keeping classic rock alive, and seemingly loving the hell out of it. I pull out the headphones about 11:00 pm, nightly. The first thing I listen to every night is your reaction to Lazy. I love to see you dancing and smiling, and just having fun. More than once I've wiped a tear or 12 out of my eye. I saw Purple once, and had the same reaction. Thanks. Will be a life long fan.😅🤘🌹
My favorite DP song!
I was gonna say the same thing that this last guy just said but he beat me to it🤨😆Yeah I know how much you like live performances for their energy and camaraderie and the way they play off of each other! Well there’s no better example of that than the live version from ‘72 in Japan 🇯🇵 It’s most definitely one for the ages!! They were in their prime and at their best!! Total banger!!!😝🤟🎸✌️🫶❤
Some housework before going to bed, I'm gonna listen "Lazy" from the Live in Japan, just because
I remember when this album came out sitting in the basement, my friends house, smoking weed drinking beer. It was the greatest sound we had ever heard.
Good stuff puts a simile in our faces ever
This music will still be relevant 50 years from now, glad you enjoyed it. Check out Joe Bonamassa and Jimmy Barnes cover of this song.
My 2nd favorite Deep Purple song. My favorite being Hush, the one that basically started it all for them. (Hint, hint) I love the way you've embraced all this funky bluesy rock!
You should do Deep Purple "Mistreated" Live California Jam 1974 with David Coverdale on vocals 😊
