The best thing about Scots is the extensive range of insults.
I’m an American of Scottish heritage, my family came (were exiled) to Boston just before the Rovolutionary War, then joined the Continental Marines when it all kicked off. From the first time I heard it, the Scottish accent sang to my soul. These insults are awesome, and I would start using them immediately, if any of my American friends would have any idea of what I was talking about. lol
My favourite is “Yer bum’s oot the windae”
My favourite too
I'm still partial to "face like a skelped arse" and "get it up ye". 😂
Get it up ye is BRILLIANT
'face like a well skelped arse' is the power up version.
Could you explained the first one? Doesn't make any sense to me... I'm not native if it helps for not seeming like a friggin bawbag haha :P
I guess it means like "shove it up your arse" @@sebastiancorredor9772
My gran had a less offensive version of this to describe someone with a reddish complexion. She would say that a person "had a face like a stalk of last year's rhubarb".
One of my Commanding Officers was a Scott born and raised. This guy was our Regimental Commander so we really listened when he spoke, problem was we couldn’t understand a single word he’d say. We would be in formation and he would dismiss us for the weekend and we wouldn’t move, so the first couple times that happened he thought we were messing with him so he asked on of the Majors if the unit was full of “eejit”. The only thing the major said was Aww, Uaa, Sir? The entire time all of us are just shifting looks at each other, like what language is that, sounded like a bunch of rrrrrs, birttt, buurrr, he turned out to be one the most inspirational leaders I served with, well, when I wasn’t being an eejit.
Abby Babby in I'll ok mmm I
Jimmy Dunwoodie Exactly.
"yer gran gets bullied at the bingo"
XD
Yer Da sells Avon 😂
Being Scottish I always laugh when I'm getting my messages and I see the cleaning products 'minky' 🤣🤣🤣 contradiction...
"Yer maw wears a denim trackie"?! Lmao, I've never heard that before, that's brilliant!
I'm a South African who lived in Paisley for a few years... I'm literally curled up laughing at these! Thanks Erin!
Bawhair is an official measurement here
burants 7
And 10 bawhairs is a baw
12 Bawhairs is the "Peak o' yer bonnet."
0.1mm, apparently according to a guy at my work
Ive not lived in Scotland for a while, but I can’t believe you missed my favourite with the accent: “away and bile yer heid”. :)
I've included that in previous vids but I'm afraid it's not one of my faves :p
Grats on 50k! Your channel is brilliant and so's yer maw. 😉
50,000!! Your awesomeness is spreading, Erin!
I want to buy a parrot and teach him Scottish insults ! Keep him in our restaurant for our “SPECIAL” customers 🤔😂🐖💨💨💨
Pleeeeease do
That can be arranged...
chefprov That is hilarious! Here's another one...you mother wears army boots. Yer mither wears airmy bits...from my long ago childhood.
Yea the old classics “ yer a bawbag” “ ya fcking rocket” “ ya dafty “ “ ya fanny “ I’m a traditionalist so you can’t beat the oldies lol
Love this, the very reason I started following you, your "Scottish" videos. Numpty is my absolute fave Scottish word though some have said I can be a bit crabbit at times. ;)

Your Dad sells Avon😂 love it!
Naw it's yer da sells avon
"Munter" is amazing. A clueless, dishevelled person who follows the crowd.
We use munter here to mean someone ugly
And whatever you do, don't look up "munting" . it's weird...
And I am sooooo happy that there is a Scottish CZcamsr. I LOVE YOU
"ya maw's a welder" 😂😂😂😂 love it! 👌
Not even watched the video yet and I already know it will be great x
I recently found out about Scottish insults and I'm in love.
Glad to find your channel. I’m an American who will be studying abroad in Scotland starting in January, so I’m excited to learn about Scottish culture.
Great insult video. I noticed that most of yet favorite of insults are some variation of idiot. My favorite is grabbit and bawbag. I've actually been using some of them.
lol this video could have been called, "my favourite Scottish words that mean 'idiot'". Glaikit is definitely one of my favourites.
ErinI really love your Scottish were videos they’re just so cool you guys are just so amazing in the vocabulary department and your accent is amazing great video hope to see more
Congratulations on 50k and Yeh the first one is the best insult 😂😂

Giiiirrrrl you make the Scottish accent sound Scottish. Seriously, though, thanks for this. It's been a bit since I've been to Scotland and I miss the people and the accent.
Slainte Mhath!
I'm also from Scotland ❤ i love this channel and that a lot of people from America and different countries watch this channel to see their reactions to Scottish words and culture, and to see their nice compliments about Scotland ❤ it makes me happy 😀
HaHa! "Yer maw wears a denim trackie!!" A new one for my arsenal. Some classics in there and one that recently came home from the wee one's school... "you've a face like a Ford Fiesta"??? Apparently it means it's all over the place like the front of the new Fiesta HaHa! Who knew?
Hahahahaha brilliant
Just love your videos !!!
Thank you!
Not really an insult but I always loved "peely wahly" used to describe someone who looks pale or ill
Good one is "yir maws got baws and yir da loves it" yeah we've clearly got the best patter ever.....proven fact
Edit: my mum used to say "take that glaikit look off yir face"
Love yer maw...for makin you!
Best to ya love.
"Yer maw can be used for anything"
Fantastic.
Oh man you make me laugh. Fud had me spitting my coffee everywhere.
“Aye, right!” Agreement, disagreement and condemnation in two words. Brilliant 😂
I find myself saying "away and take yer face fur a shite" 🤣 I love being Scottish.
Congrats on the 50K huni xx
LOVE that one! Thank you :D
I love these! 😂 I remember many of these from back home lol. Not really an insult but wedgies were popular for whatever reason when I lived there as a kid 😭😂. Another funny video keep them up 😁👍

Some old ones... Glaikit, nyaff, besom, schemie, soap dodger, wazzak
Dobber is one of my favourites.
Love your facial expressions they crack me up.. one of my favorite insults is calling people a jackass!! When they do stupid things especially driving... Your friend in Clearwater Florida 😎
Omg, I cracked up so hard when you said "yer da' sells Avon." XD
Thanks for the video especially for having the spelling in the description right now I'm playing an RPG game and a forum and my character is a Scottish punk from Glasgow who is held at the point of the sword by a Japanese Yakuza ninja warrior (its a superhero game in the style of CW "Arrow "or "Flash") his being used hostage to force the other players to help the Yakuza escape. After trying to get free and falling I cobbled up this flowery sentence thanks to your video and some comments "Yer Bawbag! get ye butter knifer in Yer Eejit Numpty Mink Fud! Ye Crabbit Tub Yer!" its still pretty mild because its mostly stress/pain relief he dos not want to attack his family or get into harder curse words but does not want to provoke the Yakuza too much a middle ground :D I will post a hyperlink to the video in my post so that you will get some more views thanks for the content
I'm Australian. My grandparents were Scottish. My grandfather used to at times use the word "duffer" to describe someone who had done somethin silly. My grandfather was born before 1910 so the word "duffer" would most likely be a wee bit outdated now.
Erin your looking stunning as always love the video
Oh my God I simply love this accent. I was planning to study English there in Scotland. I got a better deal for England, (un)fortunately, though.
At least I'll be able to go there.
Subscribed (long time ago).
Thanks for subscribing :)
Tube is my favorite one , Thanks Erin , Scottish people are so nice .
My favourite insult is "yer a fanny like yer da" or the irn bru " ye come fae a long line oh fannies" 😂😂
Hiya! I’m Scottish also! I love ur videos and I’ve been using some of ur words 😂😂 x
Thank you
Very amazing video well done and I love listening to your video's as i am blind and i am a white cane long cane user
My favourite is just 'ye spoon', dunno why but the randomness of calling someone a spoon really gets me
Bawbag is the funniest!! And hurricane Bawbag just killed me XD
I go over to the celtic matches, and once when I was in one of the bars beforehand I heard a fella call his mate a "scheme dug", hahaha love it
love the Freddy Kruger claw on your door
My favourite Is bawbag, definetely. If you are a South American person the translation Is "saco 'e weas" (faithful translation of a half Scottish guy).
I am from Northern Ireland and have Scottish ancestry. Some Scots dialect is used here. One of my favourite words is "sleekit" to mean sneaky or devious. My Granda also used to use "galoot" to mean idiot.
my one is “shut it ya we fanny yir da’s a dinner lady”
Och, Erin! You're wonderful!
Omg are you doing that Messyformind challenge the gunging thing that Kirstie nominated you for?😂😂xxx
ERIN!!!! You're awesome
Yayy saw and clicked immediately 💞
My lordy woman!! i could listen to you swear at me all day long! 😍🙈😂 It's interesting to see how you lovely Scotts use profanity just as much as us Aussies do in everyday conversation ☺️ You are positively charming Erin! Are ye single? 🙈
I like the Nightmare glove hanging on the knob, you're my kind of sick girl.
do insults differ the further North you go in Scotland? Also, I'm from America and have used Eedjit for years. Never knew where it came from. Also, loved the blooper reel.
"We are writing to inform you that your father is dad."
Strange place to find a Red Dwarf reference XD
@@CataclysmicCharizma Hey. You recognized it. Awesome.
Was your city/town hit by hurricane hector last week or somfin. I'm from bellshill and the wind was so strong 😂
Oh maaaan so windy!!
How about “yer Da’s a lavvy attendant’. Or as the say in France “say nae mer”.p to mention a few.
A guy in surgery getting a transition fell off the operating table, he landed with a fud.
I'm from Australia but have Scottish in me and have relatives there. It's my spiritual home! My all time favorite is calling people numptys or eejits. Thanks for the video!
I am over on the east side of Scotland, Angus, here a common term for idiot it 'neep'. Need also means turnip. He's a richt neep. But we also have the same insults that you have just mentioned.
Crabbit is one of my all time favs haha I use it everyday in life! As a Scottish person myself I often wonder what others think of us scotts.. Do they think we're crazy and we just go about calling people idiots 😂😂😂😂
I studied in Edinburgh back in 2015. Wonderful country. I have to wonder how many times these insults were used against me and it just flew over my head.
What about “get it up ye” ??? 😂😂
The Scots seem really dedicated to calling each other idiots. LOL
It's a term of endearment for us scots 🤣
At work, I use "numpty". I love that word. LOL. Also, I use the Irish words "langer" and "gobshite" along the with the aforementioned. Being from the states, no one knows what i'm talking about.
I just love whatever you teach 😘
I would have to go with mink. Here its used to describe a woman who is attractive. I might just start saying that to some people and have them think I am giving a compliment.
Hahahaa woahh!
Ah wudni be sayin that if 'ra boyfriend wiz err?
And
If he didn't perform one of his gentlemanly duties, he would be instantly dropped to the level of;
BANGER!! 😂
Yer Manza BANGER!!
I have a scots character in my web comic. thanks for the help with his bad education . most useful.
Scottish (people as well) is absolutely delightful.
You had me at (forgive my spelling) "You have a face like a melted welly"
Only after moving to Scotland did I understand why "Ned" is the best wine label ever.
“Loss for words just say yer maw”
In the Scottish lands:
Someone ask you to help them but you didn’t understand it
Shrugs “yer maw” and then casually walks away
My favourite is "Sook mah boaby" :D
Ave never used Glaikit 😂 I didn’t even know it wis a word but everything else ave pretty much used everyday a ma life
Awww man glaikit's a GREAT WORD!
@@ErinsHoose actually glaikit means cross eyed and has been around for a few centuries. In Fife there used to be "yon's a glaikit domer" or a "right styuppit mong". Here's another one: in Crieff when I was a skule bam we had a viral outbreak of "Tongs, ya bass"! Even written on the street in huge letters one morning. Stoater, that was.
I like the insult " You big fanny." classic !!
My faves are definitely eejit/idjet since I have been using it my entire life. And bawbag is funny I can see myself using it gaming. Lol
I am saving this for when I go to Scotland. Sounds like a battle plan😏
Your Maws a welder is new to be me. single comeback to an insult in the highlands. you skaff meaning like you mink. my favourite highland insult is weeeshed or weeeshed a minute. it means hawd the bus son. Your videos are great and always make me chuckle. Hill walking ones too
love the nessie cup
My dad called me Kenny Ball bags when I was very young and my friend heard it and through time lots of people started calling me it
Numpty is such a good word!
