It's easily the most important thing ever to them. That ending was brutal. As a Puerto Rican and a Met fan I enjoyed that game so much. The atmosphere was incredible as both teams had equal number of fans in the stands being loud and supportive for their respective teams. Then the injury happened and I knew it was going to be bad because nothing ever goes right for us met fans. So there is no perfect time to play this tournament and these injuries can happen at anytime whether people are at spring training, at home, at the store, etc. People need to take a deep breath and chill

Ohtani went to the US when he was under 25 and only got paid a few hundred thousand dollars when he could have waited and got paid millions. @@flutterworksdigitalmarketi2557 I agree with you. And it's every 3-4 years, if the naysayers can't be flexible then that's being a little selfish. This tournament gives players like Trout an opportunity to play in something meaningful and all those millions of people around the world an atmosphere of a world series. The crowds in Japan and Chinese Taipe are amazing, the crowd at the PR Dominican game was amazing. People brought their instruments, their ethnic wear and garb etc. It brings so many people together. There are so many wars and negative stuff going on, humanity needs something that is beautiful and causes human beings to see each other on the basic human level. This tournament is proving that all human beings are essentially the same, with the same hopes and aspirations, loves and repulsions. We are all the same on the very fundamental level, but we express that sameness so differently. The Japanese with their large flags, Chinese Taipe with the dancing girls leading the chants that the whole crowd does in a call and response manner with the overhead announcer-then they get silent when their team is on defense. It is something beautiful. Baseball is a game of human drama, of pain and suffering (i.e. Bill Buckner) and triumphs (Reggie Jackson) and difficult relationships (Reggie and Martin). It is an expression of the human drama, and in that people get hurt. There is always some pain in the midst of glory, this pain, runs deep, a young man sees his season and hopes for the future ends, he is learning a very difficult but sublime lesson about life, competition and what it means to be alive, to discover what is truly meaningful in life. No one likes pain and defeat at the hands of fate or karma, but it always happens, because it's life. The Buddha said, if you're going to live, you're going to suffer and baseball in so many ways express that beautifully, what seems horrific is somehow sublime. That's baseball. These guys are playing for something that cannot be quantified, it is much more than money to them. It is taking on a hero's journey, to sacrifice for something bigger than yourself, your country, your ideal, your way of life. This tournament, for the ones who play, touches something deep within the human heart, and that's why they do it. They are not thinking about money or fame or anything of the sort. It is about the sacrifice and the journey of the hero. Sometimes the hero fails, the hero gets hurt, the hero falls short. Trout is feeling it because it touches something within that he could not find in the MLB. It is more than pride, it is going to a battle, of sport, with your brothers. In ancient societies, young men would be taught about being a hero for something bigger than themselves, which is the society, the culture, the people. And since it is an intimate aspect of the human heart, these valiant young men, win or lose, are attempting to fulfill that duty to the other, the country, the people.

Don’t believe me, just look at the fans at your local MLB stadium, they are mostly 35+ years old. More of them are late 40’s to 50’s. MLB is becoming boxing, losing importance behind NFL, NBA, CBB and College Football.

As a Mets fan, yes. It's unfortunate that Diaz got hurt. It's unfortunate that our starting infield is away. But right now they're getting what the Mets need- games in high leverage situations so they recognize how to perform in October. It's also giving us a chance to get these kids into some games. Baty is making great progress. Mauricio is showing great promise. Alvarez is looking sharp. These kids are getting more time to get ready for that call up.
