I feel like in order to do this one has to be an extremely dedicated person. For example some people (Like me), would simply be unable to be dedicated enough to finish such a plan.
Dedication is definitely a key factor if you're aiming for graduating in a year.
You also don't need to be exceptionally dedicated to benefit from trying one of these programs. Taking one CLEP exam could make a difference.
You're already putting effort into school, so setting aside some time to prepare for some of these can be manageable.
From there, you might find the motivation to keep going
This is amazing! I wish I knew this earlier⊠it too late for me but I going to forward to my nephew and neices
Glad you enjoyed! :)
dual enrollment is broken. i had 80 credits leaving high school
lol hell yeah. More students should be doing this, hopefully thisâll spread awareness-it is very hidden many school districts
Damnnn
Dude this was a really insightful video. Iâll be going into junior year soon and have taken 4 APs so far and have PSEO as an option at my school. I was already looking into PSEO/Dual Enrollment and this convinced me to go further into the whole college credit gathering plan I have. Thanks for all this info
That's awesome!! Best of luck
I really want to do this! I'm researching more about it right now, I just finished my freshman year of high school and I do not want to burden my parents with college.
Heck yeah!! Iâm excited for you. Reach out if you have any questions :)
Bruh, this makes me feel like a friggin failure and I'm in sophmore year.
Are you HS or a college sophomore?
Saying it here once again, its sad that we have to pay 50% for dual enrollment. I want to try the college board linked thing for sure.
Also is this possible for people who want to double major?
You are such a legend for making this free. Bless you.
Thank you! :) curious to ask, whatâs the intention of double majoring?
@John_Zheng No, I'm just curious as I'm not sure what I want to do yet and want have all my options open.
all of the colleges near me only allow dual enrolling in junior and senior year of hs
great video it just sucks that where i live in dallas most of this doesnt apply i rlly only have ap, clep and dual credit which is not bad but can be limited
This works for TX.
What makes you say it doesnât apply to Dallas?
@@John_Zheng like the college i would go to doesnt have dsst and dual credit is limited where i live and not free but im pretty sure it varies greatly as isds in texas are not standardized
Hey, I was already interested in self studying APâs next year, but I have a couple questions for you. You said self studying was easier than most people say, but what scores were you aiming for? Just a passing 3, or were you going for 5âs? Secondly, could you share the routine you used for studying? You said you spent about 3 weeks per AP, but how many hours per day? Thirdly, what APs would you personally recommend to self study?
Thanks!
I aimed for the passing score. You don't have to be a perfectionist (i.e., "I need to get a 5")--if a 3 works to get your credits, then it takes the pressure off. I typically aimed for a minimum of a 3, but would also score higher.
My routine was a lot of deepwork sessions. If a subject had 14 chapters, it would take me a day to get through a chapter.
Meaning, in 2 weeks, I would master the material. Read through it, do practice questions, review, do free online exams, then I just got it out of the way.
There are a lot of easy AP exams--I'd say Psychology and Economics are pretty simple to start with. Most Uni will require them. Plus, passing these will help you spiral into keeping the momentum going
School is also fun for hanging out and talking shit though and you cant put a pricetag on that
If you graduated from HS, years ago, U can earn credit only with CLEP and DSST? For example Business, the amount of course are limited
Yes, those tend to be the options that you can explore. However, there are also internship credits and other work related opportunities. I recommend Macro or Micro Economics and Principles of Marketing for CLEP if you are going for a business degree. Research projects could be another method to get more credits and may also come with a university scholarship.
Kinda off-topic questions, but still:
1. what software did you use for infographics?
2. Your journey is truly fascinating, but would this work for international students?
Canva :)
And for international students, depending on where theyâre going for university. Iâd say itâs a possibility if youâre aiming for a US university/college that allows the transfer of these credits.
Say you were to attend University of Minnesota Duluth⊠they accept these credits. Iâd be shocked if they disqualify students just because you arenât in the US.
But also something to verify/research with any school (send them an email and theyâll confirm).
Hey John, this video was amazing. I've been looking into this method for a while now, but there are some gaps that I don't know about yet. I just finished my freshman year in HS, but my school only has a few AP courses and gatekeeps dual enrollment until the 3rd year (even then, you can only take a limited amount). Also, my counselor said the school does not allow students to self-study AP courses that the school doesn't offer (which defeats one of the purposes of self study). How did you get started, and is there a way to get around these restrictions?
Wow⊠the blatant lies you were told o_o (or, the counselor doesnât know-which could very well be the case).
You can ALWAYS self-study AP exams. Even if your school doesnât offer it, you can do it on your own. You can actually request your school to facilitate an AP exam if they donât offer it-I had my school do my AP Macroeconomics since it wasnât offered (this is just the exam). If they intentionally resist, schedule it with another school that offers AP exams.
Again, HS doesnât want you to do dual enrollment since they would lose funding. Sometimes they say itâs only 3rd year, but in reality, you can do it sooner⊠what state are you in?
@@John_Zheng Thanks, I appreciate the very swift reply! I am in PA, but the school is a private school (public schools around are not very good and are located in a bad area, scholarship was also a factor) and the school told me that self-studied AP exams can only be taken on the school campus (hence the "you can only self-study AP exams we offer" reply I received). They claimed they couldn't proctor exams for courses they don't offer. I also tried asking a few months earlier if I could take it at another school, but they said they didn't know of any that would allow me.
@@John_Zheng Also, I saw you mentioned in the video that you could free up time during school hours by not going to class. How did you do this?
Bro John Iâm going to be a senior in HS this coming year how many general education classes can I finish is there a limit
You can finish a decent amount. Iâd look into dual enrollment options, and knock out some easy self-study exams for college credits
That can easily get you 1-1.5 years out of the way if youâre committed
Even if you start college, there are other strategic ways you can condense down time/money by leveraging self-study, credit-by-exam, enrolling in community colleges nearby that transfer - I was able to assist one of my college buddies to finish 2 years early by doing this
Thanks for making this informational video.
Iâm a student in California and if I manage to self study any subject for example in Clep, AP or dsst can it replace any of my requirements to graduate in highschool and I donât have to attend class in person?
Thank you! Verify with your HS, but yes, typically if you are proficient in a subject, youâll free up that time.
But, (as an example) in the event where you can get college credits for Economics, and the HS still requires you to still take Economics, they have their sh*t backwards
Keep me updated and lmk how it goes!
Bro just get a full tuition scholarship
Thatâs a lot of work
Hi - We met Zeke recently. It was interesting. Daniel
Nice! Zeke is awesome
Lisan al Gaib!
Hello, I am a high school student who is interested in going into pre-med. Would you recommend completing major requirements while in high school, or should this be done while at the university I plan to attend? Do you know if universities have a cap on the credits they accept? How would this early graduation route impact my admission into medical school/graduate programs (especially high-ranking programs)?
Really depends on the university-
Some will cap credits you can come in with. And I havenât seen it impact med school. Med school admissions are its own thing entirelyâŠ
You can graduate early by knocking out gen ed/liberal arts and do your specialized/higher-division classes at your university
I did pursue major requirements in HS, but again, itâs up to you and what your goals are :)
I am currently entering my somphmore year of high school and I plan to graduate this year with about a years worth of college credits and will be halfway done with my AA degree at my local CC. I hope to transfer to an ivy as a junior, do you think I have a chance?
This depends on if the school accepts those credits. You can absolutely knock out a lot of credits, but it all depends on the institution that's letting you come in with those credits
Hey, i just want to say, you are doing a great work, i am joining college in next month, ( i am 18) any tips for me?
CLEP/DSST, or Credit by Exam of your college has them.
Then also search local community colleges nearby whatever school youâre at and you can swap out some courses that transfer over.
Can save you thousands of dollars
Hey John quick question. I have just completed my freshman year of HS and have already taken 1 AP class. By the end of my senior year I have estimated that I will take 14 AP classes in total. So my question was how can I contact you because I want to see what
your steps to complete college in 1 year. This can help serve as guidance for how many college credits I need to earn each year. Thanks in advance!
Starting early is key, great that youâre thinking about this now. Any specific questions you have that I didnât address in the video?
I'm guessing this can't apply to EU students? I don't know if college creds exist here.
Yeah, this is revolved around the US system. Though, if youâre planning to attend a US university, there could be the possibility you could earn credits, even if youâre in the EU.
Definitely some research would be involved in this
Do you know how many exact AP's, Cleps, Dual enrollment classes, ETC. you took? I am currently going to be a sophmore(hs) hoping for a degree in Finance.
I'd say it was half dual enrollment, half self-studying. Self-studying was definitely more flexible. You have plenty of time since you're entering into sophomore of HS--this is exactly when I started
Could you help me make a plan? (I am currently in 8th Grade and wondering how I should progress)
Do you have a family member that can help you with this?
Whatâs your vision/goal?
@@top7memes or John_Zheng can reply to your question within the hr đ đ
@@quinnbloodmoon1112 I talked to my sister about this, and she didn't believe me and talked trash about the idea.
@@John_Zheng My goal is to get a degree in Business Administration or Finance. I hope to complete college in a year, and maybe get an MBA.
Could you please tell me how I can do this wanting to do a post bacc pre med degree? How does it work?? đą anyone know?
I already enrolled in University. Can I enroll dual enrolment? What should I do?
No, itâs only for HS students.
Look at CLEP/DSST exams as a start. Even local community colleges that have courses which could transfer over
Will this make my 12 years of studying to be a dermatologist shorter?
Absolutely a possibility if youâre committed
Could you apply the same method in undergrad for your masters? If so, how??
This video is meant more for your undergraduate degree. There are many graduate programs out there, so you could choose a school/program you could potentially finish sooner than other programs
Question on how you managed to get into a grad school like Harvard in the one year you were in college
How did you balance your class load, your ECs and studying for your GREs considering your entire undergrad portfolio had to be condensed to just one year?
What degree do you have?
Studied business/organizational management
But this would work for any path in business- marketing, finance, etc.
How did you make a competitive application for grad school during your one year of undergrad?
Also, which highschool did you go to where they gave you credit for self studying a CLEP/AP exam? I've looked at many schools' policies and I haven't found a single one
wonder what degree you got for under grad and masters
